I was just curious about how other lay people pray the Liturgy of the Hours. So here’s a poll.

Your poll didn’t come through. 😦

I use a shorten version that makes it easy for me to do at least one Psalm and the major prayers. Most of us are too busy to do the whole thing every morning and evening–at least I am.

I do it in the privacy of my bedroom, with the three cats “helping out”. 👍

I do recite it “verbally”…meaning that I use words. I also recite it “orally”, meaning I speak the words as opposed to writing them. “Verbally” means “with words”, and can mean written AND/OR oral. 😃

(We need a smilie of a Nun with a yardstick:rolleyes: )

I pray privately and silently BUT I also burn incense , candles and have gregorian chant playing.

Fellow candle-burner here (I tend to burn votives at odd times anyways), and i like the occasional bit of music - though I go more for meditational stuff free of singing than actual chant, since I find chant a little more difficult to concentrate with.

in common with others every Sunday evening in English, Spanish and Latin, chanted.

daily, by myself, I read the psalms out loud, it keeps me focused.

ALL postings in this forum are examples of verbal intercourse:D

Oh I like the idea of the incense and candles. 👍 I pray privately, out loud. Ok, orally. 😃

Is there a link for the short version? I did a search on the LOTH once, and the only things I came up with where these really looooong versions. What is a lay person, BTW?

CAUTION:

If you use incense be sure to have good ventilation - an open window. Charcoal generates great amounts of Carbon Monoxide which is lethal.

I usually sing the hymns, when I pray the LotH. I make up notes.
You’re braver than I am! I have such a horrible voice, even my guardian angle wouldn’t stick around to pray with me! 🙂 I’d scare 'em all off!

So is it an acute angle or an obtuse angle?

Couldn’t resist. 😛

I couldn’t use incense - I’ve got allergies.

I use the Little Office of Our Lady; privately and silently, or softly spoken.

I pray Vespers out loud and sing or chant as much as I know how to. I’m trying to learn more tunes for chanting. I recently started chanted the Our Father in latin.

I’m a beginner at the LOTH, so I decided to learn more about the psalms as they are the heart of the prayers. I have created a linked list of all of Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI catecheses on Morning and Evening prayer given during the Wednesday audiences from 2001-2006. Please use the pages if you find them useful, and share them with others. They are linked from my blog at:
