Hello all,

I am new to Eucharistic Adoration and I typically pray the rosary in front of the Blessed Sacrament. I also say my own prayers followed by scripted prayers like Hail Holy Queen, Litany of the Sacred Heart, etc.

I am curious what you all do while in Eucharistic Adoration. Is there a prescribed prayer format?

Thank you!

MA

What I have done at EA is the rosary and praying in general. Sometimes I have just sat there and knowing that body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus is right there, has been comforting to me. I have fallen asleep during EA! When I have gone, I am usually the only one there, or maybe there is one other person there (the Blessed Sacrament is kept inside the tabernacle).

I don’t believe there is any one way to pray in EA. I have found the rosary to bring me peace. It isn’t for everyone, and I didn’t think I would like saying the rosary, but I do.

Thank you, Graceful Lamb. I love EA. I leave feeling so much peace and joy. Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it.

I pray the Holy Hour of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and I pray the rosary which is included as part of this Holy Hour as well. By the way, the Litany to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is also included. Sometimes I stay a little past my hour to get through all of my prayers. Other times I may skip a few of the prayers in the booklet when my hour is nearly over. We used to use this same booklet at our monthly Holy Hour of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, but things have changed over the decades and the services that we have now include evening prayer and Benediction. But I like doing this prayer each week during my Holy Hour. This is what it looks like: amazon.com/Holy-Reparation-Sacred-Heart-Jesus/dp/1891280392

One of the most powerful prayers to pray in Adoration is the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. It’s also a time to listen to God…Peace!

Wow, thanks, Im going to get one!

when I first enter the chapel I kneel in front of the Blessed Sacrament and pray privately. I then take a seat and pray the rosary or read my spiritual books including daily readings. they have pen and paper and a basket with prayer intentions so I usually write out a view prayers. sometimes I just sit in silence and feel His presence around me and over me.

Same here at my Parish’s EA Chapel. I really enjoy the peaceful guiet & serenity of the EA Chapel.

I typically say the Divine Mercy Chaplet and The Rosary. On a given week, I may bring spiritual reading (I am reading about the life of St. Maximilian Kolbe) and finish by kneeling in front of Chris and bringing petitions to him or asking for strength. I also pray for vocations, the attacks against the Church, and for our clergy by name.

This varies based on personal situations. Some people just sit and soak in Jesus. It’s a wonderful experience.

I almost always do a rosary because Mary always leads me closer to her son. Then I usually do a bit of praise. I praise the Lord for all his wonders and gifts. I say a few intersessions, and then I shut up. I’ve said enough, and its rude to have a one sided conversation, so I sit and I let him respond. After a good while of that, I like to just sit there and talk. Tell him about my day, about what’s going on in my life, etc. Other times I just like to sit and bask in his presence. Sit and look on him with love.

Once I read a story aboutSt. Jean-Marie-Baptiste Vianney(The cure’ of Ars) a 19th century French priest who once noticed a peasant come in to the church and stay for hours in front of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. The Saint asked this man what do you say during all that time before Jesus in the Eucharist? The Peasant replied,** “Nothing, I look at Him and He looks at me.”***

Very similar to what I do.

I find that simply sitting there or talking “personally” to Jesus, I will get answers I can discern in no other way.

Only very occasionally will I pray the rosary. I find that it’s far too easy to fall into “highway hypnosis” and that is not my intent.

Use whatever means you find draws you closer to Our Lord. After all, He is there right with us.

Blessings,
Stephie

There are a variety of digital voice recorders, that are very compact. I happen to have picked up a sony recorder with earphones.

I found recordings of the rosary by Fr. John Riccardo and I enjoy praying the rosary along with him. Listening to these recordings also blocks out some of the incidental noises that are in our small adoration chapel.

With this particular recorder, as I implied, I can download the rosaries and also music to listen to as a meditation while I am there.

I don’t need a physical rosary to pray the rosary, this way and to meditate on the mysteries of the rosary. Riccardo prefaces each mystery with a meditation, and the can get repetitive to the point that I am not listening to those words. But, his rosaries are well-engineered, without background music (which I find simply distracting) and his voice is clear and his rhythm of praying is consistent.

Sadly, it seems that Eucharistic Adoration is greatly under-appreciated. First and foremost, I say my prayers of Thanksgiving. I am so blessed and I love lifting my gratitude to Him in prayer.

I find comfort in praying for something and then say the Hail Mary, Our Father, and Glory Be; pray for something else and repeat the three core prayers, etc. I tend to pray for the same things at each visit - for those who are persecuted, for those who persecute, for the poor souls in purgatory, for our religious leaders (including our parish priests, sister, deacon and lay leaders), for our political leaders, for family members, friends or those who I know are in need, to bring others to the Church, for those contemplating abortion…lots of things as well as my own faith formation and my desire to serve God more fully. Seriously, when you think about it, there are many, many people and situations that need our prayers.

I like to meditate on a reading and open my heart and mind to Him. This is good for many because in your meditation you may feel God speaking to you.

I’ll take breaks where I say a simple adoration prayer and just quietly wait for God to talk to me. The more I’ve gone, the more I’ve felt confident that He talks to me. What a glorious feeling!

Somewhere I read something that epitomizes my feelings about EA. It is along the lines of Jesus’ sacrifice for us…can we not find an hour or a few minutes to go to visit, thank, and glorify him?

I hope these ideas help. I wish our church offered it ar a time I could attend regularly (they offer it during the workday) but we do have an aforation chaple with the Tabernacle that I visit often.

I don’t have a chance to Eucharistic Adoration often. But when I do I often open the hymn book and sing songs in my mind. If no one else is there I may sing aloud.

Private prayer, The Rosary, Traditional Divine Office, check prayer book, quiet time.

Many neglect preparation prior to beginning prayer. You don’t exercise without warming up and relaxation is warmup for prayer.

I relax first.

Sit still. Feel the tension in my body and let it go. I tend to have tight shoulders and forearms. Maybe stretch a little bit. Breathe… slowly… Let my heart rate fall and my breath slow and deepen. When I yawn I know I am ready. I used to hate that but now I know that I am starting to relax and the urge to move to my knees will soon come.

Then I recite my prayer word as I breathe…

Abba…
Father…
Abba…
Father…
Abba…
Father…

That’s just my prayer word. Yours can be whatever you want. This is preparation. Prayer will come after this with the Holy Spirit’s help.

Sometimes it’s a conversation between me and Him. Sometimes it’s just silence. Sometimes I pray a rosary. Sometimes I read a book about Catholicism (I now have one by Alphonsus de Ligori to read). It depends on what I feel struck to do. During the last five minutes of my hour with Him, I pray, “My God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love you. I beg pardon for all those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love You” three times. Enjoy your time with Him! Sometimes, all He wants is for you to just be quiet and look at Him! 🙂
