How Do You Receive the Eucharist?

Always on the tongue. If a priest comes to our side, I kneel (I asked if I could before I did). Otherwise, so as not to upset the EMs, I stand.

So, if you are ever in a hospital or nursing home/rehab center, or home-bound or a shut-in, you won’t receive Communion? Because in the above situations, the person most likely to bring the Eucharist to you is an EMHC. We have less clergy, so the Ordinary Ministers are being stretched to the limit, and often delegate Communion Calls to the EMHC who is able to carry out this ministry.
Someone else already said that the question was referring to Mass. I’ll answer this anyway. If I were to be in a nursing home, hospital, or some such place at this moment, I’d wait for a priest precisely because I know that a priest friend of mine makes regular hospital visits (a rarity around here, so I hear!). In the event that it’s later on, I’d have to make that choice at the time. On my deathbed? Definitely would have to be a priest because I’d need the last sacraments and no EMHC can give those!

And, as for posture I was specifically asking about tongue or on the hand, but by leaving Other available I learned that some also receive kneeling, so that is education for me. 😃 God bless
Really?

This is no slight to you AT ALL, my brother/sister.

But I’m thinking that we’ve come a long way, if even ONE Catholic doesn’t know that one can receive kneeling.

Mostly I recieve Our Lord standing and in the hand. However, I remember, the pre-Vatican manner too…and have started to kneel and recieve Our Lord’s Eucharist the old fashion way when the majority of the people at the mass are doing it that way out of respect for them…but I’m very much a post vatican boy and still remember the excitment the parish felt when we were allowed to recieve the Eucharist in a line up standing and in our hands.

It brought Jesus too me in a very human way - the “Low Christology” approach that I am much more comfortable with.

Cheerz, interesting poll

I used to always receive standing, on the hand.
Then I moved to a parish which retain the traditional alter rail, and everyone receives on the tongue - mostly kneeling. There was a little confusion the first time there when I put my hands out & the priest pressed the host between my lips… but I’ve never looked back I discovered the great reverence for this way of receiving and now I always get in a line where a Ordinary Minister is distributing Holy Communion - (if away from my normal parish - here only the priest distributes). I always receive on the tongue. If receiving standing I normally genuflect first (while the previous communicant is receiving)

Avoiding EMHC’s if possible is the most recent change as I learned that theyre use should not be normative, and having 5 EMHC’s and 1 priest to distribute to a congregation of 100 constitutes liturgical abuse.

If receiving under both species I will receive the Precious Blood from an EMHC as that is the only option at the masses I frequent. (it’s not distributed at my normal parish)

I have rarely seen intinction: but I have seen it abused - with the congregation told to receive on the hand and to “dunk” the host themselves.
I think I’ve only seen it done correctly on one occasion. - It’s banned in the diocese where I currently live.
