These are the bible verses [still retained in the KJ B too] that I had in mind,
Let’s start with what you already know and review that information.
The basis for sin and the Churches position on it is solidly Biblical.*
**Mt. 16: 19 **“I [Jesus] will give you [Peter , on behalf of my Church] the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
The key’s to the Kingdom of heaven is exceedingly clear. I have a document on this topic, as well as papal authority, if you’d care to read them?
The terms “bind” and “loose” used here have both a specific [and historically provable] Old Testament meaning and added to it, a New Testament meaning.
In the OT, this was a common, binding at Jewish Civil Law set of terms that gave autonomous and complete control of governance to a specific person; rather like a “Prime Minister” to a King. Because all major cites were actually walled in for security, and actually had gates, that were locked at night and opened in the morning. Most often, a King who would appoint a ”PM” to handle all day to day decisions, make and enforce laws and the like. So this is the OT understanding, and “key” to understanding the authority Jesus entrusted to Peter.
In the NT, an additional understanding, regarding the power to “forgive” * sins, as evidenced by these additional Bible verses.
**1 John 1: 8-10 ***“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
**1 John 5: 16-17 ** “If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal.
You of course are aware of the two categories of sin of sin, and further that “Mortal Sin” has the effect of separating us from our personal relationship with God, GREATLY reduces the amount of grace offered to us, and should one die with unconfessed and unrepented Mortal Sin, such a person has freely chosen to send themselves to Hell for eternity.
John 20: 19-23 “On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you[SINGULAR] retain the sins of any, they are retained.” [ALSO SINGULAR]
So by reading these Bible passages, it becomes exceedingly clear, that Jesus “All power on heaven and earth has been given to me”… Mt. 28:18.] both a “man” and God had the power and the authority to pass it along. And that quite dramatically and specifically, He did precisely that.
**Mt. 9: 6 ** “But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins" – he then said to the paralytic – “Rise, take up your bed and go home.” When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.”
So friend me me a favor and provode the Biblical evidence of my "real disconnect"
