How far should I go to get pregnant?

Charting, testing, going to the doctors and taking supplements and medicines led us down an ugly path that I wouldn’t go down again for the world. It hurt my health, our marriage and I will never do that again. I’ve seen others divorce over this, and all because what once was a innocent pursuit of increasing the chances for pregnancy, turned into an ugly obsession that took over their well being and their marriage. This almost happened in our own, though God helped us to stop it before it got completely out of control. Praise God! But it took a huge step for us of giving up what little control we had in the doctors and medicines and charting and timing. We had to give up that control in order to allow God to take control of the situation.

I can’t honestly recommend that path to anyone else. Though, if you seek the morally acceptable treatments only you are doing nothing wrong.

I suggest doing nothing. Sure living a healthy life, eating right, exercise, taking a vitamin, engaging in regular marital relations all those things you would normally do for your health and that of your marriage. But nothing above and beyond that.

Letting go and giving the situation to God, we have a healthy, happy marriage now. That is priceless in my mind. And to think, I was willing to give that up, just so I could ‘try harder’ to have a baby that God obviously wasn’t wanting us to have yet. So yeah it could have gotten to be no baby and no husband.

Contrary to what others have said, giving it all up to God didn’t give us a baby. But it did give us complete restoration of health and strength and peace to our marriage. My personal health is still in cahoots but I’d far rather have that than a sickly marriage. I also realize that that time of obsession could have done permanent damage to my reproductive health, and health in general. This though has helped us to realize that we are most likely called to adoption and we are quite happy and a peace with that thought. Before we married we made an agreement to adopt one child during our lifetime, now that is just coming into play a lot sooner than we originally intended.

Of course we keep trying and remain open to life, as we always have. And enjoying the freedom of loving without the pressure of timing, charting, doctor’s orders or medicines. And the best part of all is that God is now in complete control, not us. With Him in control, we know that whatever happens is His will, and it won’t be further hurting my health or our marriage during the time of wait.

I feel so much for you. :console: Hang in there. You can private message me if you need/want to talk further.

Ditto to everything here. We’ll hit the 5-year infertility point in late June of this year (5 years from the point when we actively started trying for a pregnancy). We did the charting, the diet changes, etc. and were discussing tests with doctors. but all of it was putting a major strain on our marriage. Again, contrary to majority experience, letting go of it all did not result in a pregnancy for us, but we have a strong and happy marriage and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

YOU’RE PREGNANT!!! WOOO HOOO!!!

I just looked at your profile and you’re due in JUNE!!! That’s awesome…

So share with us all the details!!

When my wife and I tried to pregnant, it never happened. After we stopped trying (meaning we aren’t going to think about it / if it happens, it happens), it finally happened. Happened 4 times. Miscarriage, Daughter, Miscarriage, Daughter.

Both are total blessings and I can’t imagine life without them.

My heart goes out to you. :hug1: My husband and I are 5 1/2 years into trying to conceive our first child. I do have to disagree on the “not charting”. I know it is a pain but without I would not have been so informed about my body. I believe the charting and talking about our feelings of trying to conceive has brought our marriage closer. We are working with Dr. Hilgers from the Pope Paul VI Institute. I have PCOS but corrected by Dr. Hilgers. I do believe that God gives us all a cross to bear and it is how we bear it is what matters. He uses situations like this to help us to grow in our faith and love for Him. Since He gave us the means to help with conceiving why not try. I believe He is using my husband and I as explains for other people. We need to go through this so that we can help others in the future who find themselves in this situation. I am blessed to be chosen by God to carrying this cross and help Him bring others closer to Jesus.

This is a beautiful story. Thanks for sharing. 🙂 Unfortunately, all that trying and doctors appointments, charting and making love on a clock and treatments and things only made things worse for us. We are much better doing away with everything and leaving it totally to God. Glad it helped you all though. It’s really a beautiful testimony to following the teachings of the Church. May God bless you with a baby soon. :hug1:

YAY! :extrahappy:That’s awesome news. A happy healthy baby. Yes, do tell ALL. 😃

+1 for Jen’s response.

It is well and good to pray and wait and stop worrying and yes we all know couples that conceived the instant they stopped “trying”. Not wishing to discount that advice at all.

But … as with becoming obsessive over TTC, it is also possible to overdo the “just relax, give it time” thing too.

I gave it quite a few years only to discover on medical test #1 that H is completely infertile. By then I had postponed many things that were important to me because I felt I would only have to put them aside when children were young. I’ll never get those years back. (And it was waaay harder to acept all those years later than it would have been had I found out when I was younger.)

My :twocents: … it is clearly bothering you, so in order to avoid becoming obsessive (and because it is the sensible thing to do anyway) you should see the doctor. One simple test was all it took for us to know where we stand. If everything appears normal for both of you, then relax, take it easy, stop “trying” and see how it goes. If tests uncover any problems, the doctor will know what to do next and you will be on your way (hopefully) to fixing the problem without any further delay.

I would definitely get tested to find out what is wrong. Not knowing would be the worst part.
