My Lent is hopefully going like it is meant to be- a struggle :-/

Denying yourself is actually an attack on satan’s
strongholds in YOUR LIFE. No wonder there is
spiritual warfare!! The thing is to keep praying
and stick to your resolutions, if you fail, get back
up and the Lord WILL provide the strength to
carry you thru!! I’ll pray for you, Struggling1.

May you put Christ as Lord in your work situ.
“God reigns over the swelling of the seas and
when it’s waves mount up, He stills them!”
Ps. 89:9

The Devil was DEFEATED Today, I got REALLY dis-
couraged by a series of set-backs that had me quest-
ioning my Catholic Faith, my Life “mission”, my God!!
But He rebuked me and reminded me, "Have you not
yourself prayed to me ‘Thy Will be done?’ ". It broke
satan’s lies and deceptions and cleared the FOG that
had come over my mind in my utter despondency!!
Then I KNEW that my life had taken THIS turn accord-
ing to God’s holy will and everything is AOK!!

I guess I’m sort of a Lent spectator today. I randomly found a rosary in the park a few days ago and returned it to the church across the road because it seemed like the thing to do. The grandmother on duty in the office was like “You were at Mass a month ago, I remember your headscarf” and then invited me to the Friday fish fry as her guest for being nice enough to bring the rosary back. So, I guess I’m going to observe the Stations of the Cross and have dinner tonight. I’m a little nervous about it because when I originally went to a Mass there to see what it was like some people seemed uncomfortable with me being there and one guy was actually sort of hostile, but the secretary said that it would be perfectly fine and she seems nice enough.

I feel like an anthropologist doing all this research and stuff as an outsider. I shall record my observations and write a book titled “Catholics in the Mist”. “Day 33: After some initial suspicion, the Catholics have acclimated to my presence and accepted me as part of their tribe, as evidenced by the invitation to participate in the ritual consumption of fried fish and sweet tea.”

I love this 😂

Thank you for returning the rosary btw, that was very kind 🙂

LOL! 🤣
I’d read that book. I suspect that is how my husband feels when I bring him to some Catholic event.

A typical Friday in TOM’s 2018 Lent (abridged):

Thursday 8 pm. Are there scrumptuous yummies in the pantry or do I go shopping?

9 pm. Eat yum-yums.

10 pm. How good is the TV tonight?

11 pm. Gotta hurry if I want dessert

11:30 pm. Good going, genius. Did you really want to wash dishes now?

11:45 pm. Last call because clocks can be wrong.

Midnight Thurs/Fri. The first TV station that says it’s midnight is right.

12:15 am. Go to bed, genius.

12:30 am. Sleep, genius.

12:31 am. Anything good on TV?

12:32 am. Cooking shows.

2:30 am. Awake? I’m hungry.

2:31 am. You are so not. Go to sleep.

2:35 am. That cola was a mistake.

3:32 am. Don’t have to write anything this Lent, do you?

3:33 am. Nope. Thank you, by the way.

3:44 am. Besides, I spent weeks on that last write-up and all anyone clicks on is who shot J.R.

5:01 am. It’s not time to get up yet.

7:30 am. Mouthwash. Please.

8:35 am. No breakfast?

9:45 am. Feeling light and strong.

11:12 am. Mouthwash.

11:13 am. It’s only x hours to midnight.

11:14 am. I will not count.

1 pm. Your lunch smells good. Something Italian. Not pizza, though.

2:50 pm. Last chance for mouthwash. You’re doing something at 3.

2:51 pm. I will not count.

4:30 pm. Drink more water, already.

5 pm. Mouthwash. Thought I refilled this bottle last week.

6 pm. Driving by marquee advert of “we have perch and cod.”

6:01 pm. Thinking of the CC with the same batter recipe for decades. The grandparents bought their fish fry there. Want.

6:02 pm. Pigging out on the best fish fry ever does not count.

6:03 pm. How does anyone who eats anything determine if it’s Fasting or Dieting? Do they have a chart or a referee or something?

6:04 pm. Which is why anything TOM eats would be just Dieting.

6:15 pm. Turn on TV, lie down.

9:37 pm. What the – it’s still Friday?

9:38 pm. How many times have you thought about Jesus today?

9:39 pm. I will not count – 2 hours, 21 minutes to midnight.

9:40 am. Please tell me there’s something good on TV.

10 pm. Two hours to midnight.

11 pm. One hour to midnight.

11:35 pm. That monologue was mean rather than funny. Also, 25 minutes to midnight.

11:55 pm. Is it okay to at least microwave the meal?

Midnight Fri/Sat 12:01 am. Jesus fasted for 40 days, and that was with a heckler. Never heard of a saint with a hot meal waiting at 12:01 am. Bless this food.

2:30 am. I’m hungry.

2:31 am. You are so not. Go to sleep.

🙃

You pray for me and I’ll pray for you. 🙂

I’m kinda feeling like a failure this Lent. That’s OK, though, because I know it’s just a feeling (feelings don’t make facts) and I think God is using this feeling to encourage me towards humility. Here’s hoping, anyway! 🙏

There’s something missing in the diary like rendering
of the events on TOM’s Fri. in Lent. Was he doing it
just for the OBSERVANCE of it or for God??
I doubt most Catholics adhere to the Letter of the “law
of Abstinence” on Fri.'s in Lent altho there is Merit
in fulfilling our Lent observances, it is “For the praise
and glory of Christ’s Name, for Our good and the good
of ALL HIS HOLY CHURCH” as the liturgical prayer
so aptly puts it!!

What do you mean, tad. Do you see God working
in EVERY SITU? Or are you thinking that God is
consuming everything in justice(judgment)?

After reading a book about the Cure d’Ars (St Jean Vianney), St Andre Bessette, and admiring Mother Theresa, I decided to make a novena to St Jude to intercede for the gift of humility. Then wondered why I picked him, he’s never answered my prayers. Novenas must be very powerful, because in one week, I’ve been greatly humbled twice(would rather not talk about how). One was an unjust accusation by someone I thought was a good person, that I have to ignore, rather than become combative. My reasoning is that humility is a good way to become more spiritual. It’s harder than I thought.

My first year as a non-practicing Catholic, after 38 years of never missing a mass. Besides my health issues, it’s been pretty good. I am enjoying meat and all the sweets I can handle!

Gluttons become paupers, very quickly, my bro. in Christ! Prov. 23:21

@Katrina_68 I used to seek humility, too. Also added
to that, fear of the Lord(His Word, i.e.His Promises,
Testimonies, Ordinances, Precepts see Ps. 119)
Proverbs 22:4 connects the two!!

Thank-you, I’ll look them up. As a child, I feared God, then learned to love him. I’m glad for the fear, and at Mass tonight, Fr said we are used to hearing about Divine Mercy, but he talked instead about Divine Justice, and obeying the laws of God, just as we learn fear from consequences of disobedience to parents.
