No, my friend this is not what I said, not by a long shot. Christianity is the only religion which considers sex as dirty and sinful - if practised outside a marriage, and even within a marriage if it is aimed only at pleasure. Societies in general experimented with all sorts of arrangements.
Nothing is worse than that. I wonder if you talk about the brainwashing of the poor teenagers, who are torn between the prefectly natural outlet of their raging hormones (masturbation) and the teaching that they are in “mortal sin”. I feel horrified looking at the plethora of threads where the main theme is that the poster suffers from guilt, due to the fact that their natural behavior is deemd a lethal, mortal offense against God. Here is a task for you: find those Biblical verses where God says something against “masturbation”…

Just curious if you have some actual support for your views (against masturbation). Even if one does not believe of the Bible coming from divine origin, it serves as the foundation of the teachings of Christians. Did God himself speak out against this act? Or is it declared “sinful” by some very fallible human beings?

Honestly I did not know that there is some feminist Brownmiller until this post. To be more precise I don’t really undertand what a feminist is. I watch a holywood movie-- I can’t remember the title exactly, but I think it was “The Ex-wife Club”-- the story was about three women (or was it four?) devorced but they manage to avenge their husbands for the way they were treated, and these wives later on managed to solve their issues and to be independent and even started an ex-wive club. In this movie, i remember they went to a “feminist club” to watch male-strippers. In the club were-- I call them-- “disappointed women” shouting and cheering to the male strippers.
I don’t think that porn restriction belong to feminists.
It’s not wise to relate this issue to feminist groups as if only feminists concern about this issue. Just because some feminists happen to talk about the same topic, it doesn’t mean that they are the only ones believe in porn restriction. In fact, feminist sometime are being portrayed as women who-- out of their dismay-- behave as if they are “happy” as they adopt sexually aggressive behavior similar to men’s sexuality. I wouldn’t be surprised that some women who pose for some porn mags claim feminism as they were doing the poses.
I really think that **porn restriction is more related to parenting and media regulation. This issue belongs to family, concerned educatiors, concerned public, children protection. **
Various groups may have similar voices regarding this because this issue belong to many concerned people from various backgrounds. To relate such an important and sincere issue to some interest groups will only create unecessary negative connotation in the public opinion towards the issue because of the connotation of the groups.

The result of not using a pair of complementary quote tags is that you will see a post in which [noparse]
If someone quotes from a comment with a published quote tag, it will throw off the forum software to the degree that the quoted text is often assigned to the person to whom the quote is responding to. The thing to do, if you post a comment and see a quote tag published, is to immediately edit your comment to remove the extra quote tag.

Porn will never be banned until ennough people come to realize what a detrimental effect it has on our society.Most people think porn is wrong and are against all the nudity and sexually explicit materiall that is allowed to be distributed throughout our society.People are unable to correlate pornography to the many ills we have in our society today.They are told by too many educated people that porn doesn’t really effect behavior .As long as the public continues to buy into this lie we will never get rid of it.

The main problem in trying to ban or even regulate “porn” lies in defining it.
Who gets to decide what is and isn’t “porn”?
If you start with depictions of nudity what do you do about things like Michelangelo’s David or venus de milo? There is nudity on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
If you start with depictions of sexual behavior, then what do about “marriage manuals”, or materials designed to help married couples with issues?
I suspect the OP would take a much more expansive view about what constitutes “porn” (she talks about being accidentally exposed to magazine covers in a grocery store), than someone like me. Does she get to choose?

Really? Bill Clinton was trained by Russians? Also, I’m sure you know of the trend that grew in the 1920s and 30s when the political parties basically “switched”. FDR was the first Democrat in the modern sense of the word. Early Republicans were big on increasing the power of federal government, Lincoln used federal law to put the Civil Rights reformations in to motion, and Republicans only began promoting smaller government around Coolidge. Please check your facts before making erroneous statements.

I don’t exactly know who to decide and whether something is porn.
I just think that if we can rate holywood movies, then why can’t we decide whether something is porn? Surely if something is very obvious (we know it when we see it), then it should not be difficult to form a porn-watch body whose authority similar to movie rating, and from there then regulate the whole business of porn.
I read the bible just now and I get a verse where God said to King Jehoshaphat who was about to be attacked by his enemies:

Porn should not be banned. It’s protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution, which is the freedom of speech and expression. I’m not willing to give up my right to free speech just to ban porn. If you don’t like it, don’t look at it.
