How important are wedding rings?

At the risk of bringing back the thread with a semi-related question…I want to ask about the sacramental nature of the wedding ring.

My fiancee and I are looking at some of the newer non-traditional metals (titanium, tungsten, etc) for our wedding bands. One of the downsides though is that such rings cannot be resized in the event it is necessary. Most jewelers have some sort of exchange program in the event one of a different size is needed, which brings me to my inquiry - in the event it is necessary, is it “wrong”/incorrect/problematic to replace the band that was blessed during the ceremony? Is it a matter of just having the replacement rings blessed later? Or am I way over-thinking this? 😉

Hi to all,

Wedding ring is complement all styles of jewelry
pieces and clothing. They present a beautiful picture of
unity and eternal love.

To me, the ring is blessed and is my own personal “relic.” I wouldn’t give it up, or trade it in, for the world.

If it is very important to you to always wear the originals, then get rings that can be resized. Or, if you get the newer metals and need a different size in the future, you could always still keep the originals.

Rings are a cultural symbol that has been incorporated into the Catholic wedding ceremony. Not all cultures wear wedding rings, and some wear them on the right hand instead of the left. They are not an absolute requirement; you are just as married whatever kind of ring you wear or do not wear. So, it’s up to you.

We had the kind that can’t be resized, and unfortunately, I did not realize that at the time. When I tried on the ring, it was a very cold day and my hands were freezing. On our very warm wedding day, I could barely get the ring on my hand.

Neither of us wore a ring for years, but this year, we got matching gold domed bands, very simple. We traveled to Rome and now they are blessed by the pope. We like them better than the first ones we had.

Hello,

I had lost my wedding ring few years ago, and it never occurred to me to go out of my way to find it.
It was an inexpensive, simple, white-gold band. I didn’t even bother wearing it all that often.

I still don’t bother wearing my replacement wedding ring most days. I just don’t attach that much
emotional significance to my ring. It seems to me that the strength of my marriage has nothing
to do with this, or any other, symbol.
