How important is it for you to win?

I hate losing more than I enjoy winning. It’s weird, but it’s who I am.

Winning an argument is not the same as winning the hearts and minds.

Back in my days as a wannabe athlete, I did a lot of losing. Once I learned how to win, I admit, I preferred winning over losing.

At work, I treat my job like a game. If I get the work on time and the customer is happy, I win.

With nasty customers, if I separate their money from their wallet, I win.

With Catholicism I learned long ago that the Church will survive me. I don’t need to win. If fact, shortly after I was confirmed my quasi-buddhist stepmother informed my mother that my father and her were more spiritual than me. “They win”, was my response. lol

I think if competition can help people improve or grow in their talents and skills, that can be a good thing. Sometimes confrontation is unavoidable as well, especially when you’re standing up for what is right.

I try to be reasonable and keep it in perspective, but in some areas I should do better. Especially when I’m in a bad mood and tired, and especially online. Sometimes I let an issue or debate waste too much of my time and need to work on handling it in a more constructive way if it’s not getting anywhere or letting it go if need be. It’s almost like I can hear my dad telling me like old times after a sibling fight, “you always have to get the last lick in, don’t you?”

I remember trying to win this gal’s hand -
Me and another guy - we both really liked her -
He was kind of a moma’s boy - but I liked him -
I was tougher and much faster - and backed off a little -
She married him - and I happened to see them - a few years ago…
she was surprisingly heavy with two screaming kids…etc…
But he won her hand ! Fair and square, as they say.

What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

My high school girlfriend and her husband ended up a Freedom From Religion billboard with the caption "This is what atheists look like’.

While our break up messed me up quite a bit, now I have to thank God for what He saved me from. 😆

If he gets the whole world, and is happy in this life, it doesn’t sound that bad, to be honest.

It could be heaven or hell, to be happy and know it will all end and amount to nothing.
