How is Bayonetta Satanic?

Really? All it ever taught me is stand up for myself and not people give me trash about my religion. Yeah, it’s sooooo bad for the soul.
What??? Playing violent video games taught you how to stand up for yourself?? I ask again, how old are you really? Five? Btw what do you do when people “give you trash about your religion” beat them up or chop them into pieces with your meant clever?? A very shockingly immature response. I think that after reading some of these posts by Lost there is enough justification therein not to play violent video games at all…ever.

More and more, I think both sides of this argument are filled with misunderstandings.

Lost, I agree with you that violent video games are not inherently bad.

However, to say that pacifism is a weak, worthless thing is not true. Pacifism has its place and time. For example, Ghandi and MLK Jr. showed how pacifism can lead to true, righteous change in our societies. St. Maximillian Kolbe (sp?) is someone I admire greatly. His action was pacifist in nature, yes, but it was still in defiance of evil.

That’s what matters: Does this action defy evil? Pacifism and violence can both defy evil. They both have their time and place for use.

I do play violent video games. I’ve played Dante’s Inferno, the Call of Duty games, and many other violent games.

But I know that violence is a last resort. I do not feel called to act violently in real life when I play these games. I know the difference between a real person and a program.

History does not include garbage conspiracy theories. For the truth about the supposed connection between Rothschild and Hitler, read this.
I highly suspect that this source is cannot be authenticated. I will not speak further on this on this post as this will take us way off topic, but I will say that it is good to know the fraternal affiliations of many of the globalists, world bankers and political leaders in history and them understanding that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers and rulers of darkness in high places.

Seriously How is Bayonetta Satanic ? it’s not even angels that you kill it’s like Greek mythology not even related to christianity Do you think it’s Satanic
? i don’t
I have not played Boyonetta but I have seen screenshots of the game and the game’s title graphic is full of occult symbols. I would be very aware of what these symbols really mean before I just jump in and play it.

The reason is that occult symbols speak to the human subconscious and are used by occultists to cast spells and summon demonic spirits as well. It is naive to think that if you don’t believe in something that is can’t harm you. It can, especially if you are not covered in the blood of Christ and keeping yourself pure spiritually as much as possible. I think that if I feel that I should cover myself before I play a game that it really is not worth playing. That is just my opinion.

The symbols I am speaking about are hidden mainly in the text itself (they aren’t really hidden if you know the symbols beforehand)

I agree with you that the action should defy evil. And by defy evil I mean defy doing evil myself not just defiance of those people or spirits who may have evil intentions. St. Michael said “The Lord Rebuke you” once everything we do comes from the Lord we are doing the right thing. If it comes from our own understanding (ie. KILLING “demons” is good because they are evil) then it is wrong. As Proverbs 3:5 says: Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean NOT unto YOUR own understanding.

Nice how you prove Dr. Cheryl K. Olson that your definition of “violent video games” is vague and incomplete. I think after reading some of your posts kinja (or lack of them in response to your myths about video games) there is enough justification therein to keep playing violent video games.

No I don’t beat them up but that doesn’t mean I’m not gonna loose my tongue when people take issue with what I believe in (especially since I don’t preach to them in the first place).

Actually, that’s my position as well. I find wanton violence just pointless but I definitely do not rule out the possibility of resorting to it. However, JRKH’s logic regarding how violence never exterminated evil can be applied to pacifism as well. MLK Jr. virtually ended discrimination of blacks but we now have stuff like reverse racism and media bias against whites. Ghandhi did free India but was killed by its Hindu-Muslim conflict.

I find neither to be the ultimate solution. Like you, I believe they both have their time and place to use.

Your statement is just as much in error here as you believe Kinja to be. Strength and Courage come in many forms. Do you honestly believe that the Apostles were “Weak” and “Cowardly” when they allowed themselves to be martyred? Do you believe that Maximilion Kolbe was Weak when he volunteered to die in anothers place in a Nazi Concentration camp? Do you think that Pope John Paul II was weak or cowardly when he forgave the man who tried to kill him?

These things that you label “Pacifism” and seem to are “weak and cowardly”, in many cases require far greater strength of will and courage and endurance and forebearance than striking out in a fit of violent retribution.
Those aren’t exactly situations that call for violence. Look to my examples again, they all involve attacking aggressors (be it a country or a person). Reading kinja’s post seems to promote the idea of preferring to kneel down and pray lightning will strike your assaulter than shooting him.
Yes it was "war that Stopped and defeated Japan. It was also Japan’s incredible Pride that forced the Allies to use the Atomic Bomb.
But what lesson was learned. Is the World safer today? Genocide is occuring in Africa. Terrorism is occurring in various places. Wars, revolutions, Violent Evil continues to spring up. So what “lesson” was learned by “everyone”?
You don’t see Japan attacking anyone else have you? And from what I heard, its military is more defensive now than one geared for an invasion. We also know the horrors of atomic weaponry from the events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

So yes, I think everyone has learned a great deal from what happened.
Of course in order to End that regime, the western Allies made a pact with Stalin’s Russia. A regime that killed more on the order of 20 million people, Jews and others in various purges. This regime, the Soviet one, continued for another 50 or so years before collapsing.
Hitlers regme was not attacked by the Allies because of it’s Evil policies, but because it became a military Agressor, just as Japan did. The war was not about combating evil, it was about combating agression.
I never said violence was the solution to all evil you know. I said that it’s a great tool for fighting injustices (like defending oneself against aggression).
Hirohito was an Emporer with little to no power. Tojo was the Military dictator.
No one will deny that the Second world war defeated two very aggressive dictatorships. But it also left in place another very aggressive and evil dictatorship, and led the wy to a second one. Red Russia and Red China. This led to wars in Korea and in Vietnam, laos and Cambodia. I’m sure other instances of bloodshed and revolution etc. can be cited in the Western Pacific that I am not aware of.
So it can be seen that the defeat of “evil” using the tools of “evil” has not occurred. Evil still exists.
But not in destroying evil for good. In fact in many cases the Anger and violence that at first is used to prevent injustices turns in on itself and becomes a source of injustice.
The Communist Revolution of 1917 is one example. The people wished to overthrow an oppressive regime, but the replacement became, not liberating but just as paranoid and oppressive as the Czar.
The French Revolution of 1789-1799 was likewise designed to overthrow a repressive regime and right injustices. The result was the “Reign of Terror”, a huge bloodbath.
Yet the greatest pacifists of all time such as MLK Jr., Mother Theresa, and Ghandhi have not defeated evil either. Those people called for non-violence and peace yet all the evil you speak of still happen.
How do you know that. Did not jesus Promise that Faith the size of a mustard seed could move mountains?? Seems you need to look more carefully at how much faith you put in the promises of Christ.
Ask an atheist. No offense but they have a point when they say its stupid to pray for something when you can just go get/do it yourself. My more theistic take however is that God has already given all you need to get what you want.

In the case of defending oneself, if I have gun and I have an attacker. I will not pray. I will shoot.

Yes it is inescapable, but we seem to be having some trouble defineing which is real and which is “virtual”.
My point has been that, while the “killing” is virual, the feelings, the emotions, the “spiritual training” that is goin on is “Real” - and not condusive to the development of true Christian Virtues.
Uh, no it isn’t. Killing a programmed mannequin of pixels is just like killing a dummy. It doesn’t have a life, it doesn’t have a soul, and if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to hone my reflexes by blasting them to bits. 😛
Of course. These are two people who have chosen, of their own free will, to participate in this “sport”. As such they expect to be injured and to cause injury. They also respect each other’s abilites.
BUT what do you think the reaction of this person would be if He actually Killed His opponent - which is not the intent of the sport?
Uh, and video games have you killing yours? Just cause my life bar on the screen goes to zero doesn’t mean I’m gonna drop dead. Seriously, accept the separation of fantasy and reality. And in any case, at least virtual fighting games leaves you uninjured. 😛

I’ve played tons of games with occult symbols and the only “demonic spirit” that was summoned was the bloody AI.

I personally know many gamers who are the least spiritual of all people and they play all sorts of games like Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dungeons and Dragons, and Final Fantasy: Dissidia.

They don’t dance around naked in a circle and worship satan or play with voodoo dolls.

oh my goodness stop it already man … For ANYBODY who has played the Game AT ALL Even if you have played it for an hour, i & all of that isn’t true i play a lot of games & i haven’t turned in to a serial killer plus i don’t like shooters because their stupid IMO. i like fighting Games & RPG & Action… BlazBlue is the best fighting Game of this Generation. IMO. again

Thank you for demonstrating my point so beautifully. The “Reflexes” that you are “off to hone” are not “Virtual” but are “Real”.
Now please note that “Reflexes” are those actions that are taken “automatically” in the mind to the body. In this case, the training is to take “aggressive, violent action”.

This is a perfect example of what I was talking about earlier - you keep jumping from reality to virtual and back again.
My comment above was in response to your comment on interviews with fighters after fights. In other words something that happens in reality.
However, instead of responding to my question about how a fighter would respond if he accidentally killed his opponent in the ring, you deflect it by jumping from “reality” back to “virtual”.

LOL!! Do you even know what reflexes are? They’re basically responsible for your reaction time. It doesn’t define the manner of your reaction, just how fast you react. Thus, this is all moot. The only training I got from video games is how to think fast and look sharp. Heck it’s only when I took a few martial arts lessons one time did I really see how fast it made me. It wasn’t a video game that taught me the moves I learned back then and they certainly don’t teach anything of that sort now.

Yeah, “aggressive, violent action” indeed.:rolleyes:

How thick are you that you can’t see the things in common between boxers who win by KOing their opponent and gamers who win by reducing their opponents life points? Neither scenario has a person getting killed. Cutting the life bar of your opponents character to zero in a game is the same as a boxer winning via KO/TKO.

Deflection again.
Both my and kinja’s responses were to your accusation that, "Pacifism is a joke. All it does is promote weakness and cowardice. (See your post umber 36 of this thread)
What we are asking is, does the responses of these people to dangerous and life threatening situations bespeak of weakness and cowardness or strength and courage?
To me, and I have some experience, it takes more courage, more strength of will, to hold back, to forgive, and to respond with Christian Love than to strike out in violent attack.

Perhaps you should try it. Perhaps you should stand still and allow someone to verbally abuse you, or take a poke at you and refuse to respond in kind. Instead offer to pray for them and then do it. See how they react, but more important see how much strength of will it requires to NOT respond to violence with violence.
You don’t see Japan attacking anyone else have you? And from what I heard, its military is more defensive now than one geared for an invasion.
It is obvious that you do not know WHY this is so though.
The Reason is that, at the end of the war, when the Japanese constitution was being drawn up, the Japanese government feared the “militarist element” in their society so much that they insisted on a clause renouncing war as an option of national policy. Thus their “national defence forces” are very restricted.
They learned the lesson that the “Evil” that is war is no good and have taken peaceful steps to prevent it.
I never said violence was the solution to all evil you know. I said that it’s a great tool for fighting injustices (like defending oneself against aggression).
I will agree that it is a tool. Not a great tool.
I am greatful to our military men who have defended our rights (and yours).
Yet the greatest pacifists of all time such as MLK Jr., Mother Theresa, and Ghandhi have not defeated evil either. Those people called for non-violence and peace yet all the evil you speak of still happen.
I don’t really think that this is true. The great good that came from MLK’s and Ghandi’s Peaceful Revolutions gave far greater strength to their movements than any violent revolution could garner.
In both cases, while there was undoubtedly violence perpetrated on both sides, it was the peaceful demonstrations and the willingness, the courage and strength, of these peaceful demonstrators to accept injury and punishment and arrest, in nonviolent defence of the Christian Ideal of Love for you fellow man that showed up the violent responses for what they really were - evil wrongs.
If both sides subscribed to evil, violent methods, the result would have been greater bloodshed, and greater evil.

Actually in the case of India I could show how, the most fundemental of Christian values, humility and service, gave the Indian people a HUGE “weapon”, greater than any gun, greater than any nuclear bomb, to use against the British.

Having said all of that, we can be sure that we will never fully defeat evil in the world until the return of Christ. The thing here is not a matter of defeating evil at large in the world but of defeating evil in ones own heart.

All that we see with our eyes is finite and temporal. It is our eternal soul that is real and eternal. It is how we fulfill the great commandments of Love that will determine the final destination of that soul. Are we training ourselves using the weapons and armor of Prayer, Honesty, Humility,

My real concern is not so much about what effect violence has on specific events in the world. For the world is entirely temporal and finite. What really matters is the state and condition of the soul. In my opinion then, playing videogames that glorify “blasting others” is a bad thing.

Sorry but I have no use for the “theological” opinions of an atheist.
I do have great Love and respect for the opinions and teachings of My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is on this that I shall build.
Mt 22:36-40 36
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, " YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' 38 "This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 "The second is like it, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ 40 “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

Mt 5:39
But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also;

Mt 5:5
"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Mt 5:9
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

Mt 5: 43-48
"You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you salute only your brethren, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
In the case of defending oneself, if I have gun and I have an attacker. I will not pray. I will shoot.
Better still is to learn the ways of Christ. The ways of peace and justice so there is no need for anyone to attack you.
In the case of defending myself I shall remember the Words of Jesus.
“Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Mt 10:28)

Overall I can see that you and I do not speak on the same level.
Therefore, I will simply close by saying that my faith and trust is in God, Jesus Christ and His promises. I will work to strengthen myself in the teachings and the weapons of Christ, and not of man. I will seek to develop Love and not hate, prayer and not violence.

Peace
James

I have done that. It doesn’t do anything. No one changes and heck it just makes them even happier and drives them more because they know they can’t do much. It’s the same way people mock Christianity because they know that they can just tell us to “turn the other cheek” if we are “tempted” to retaliate.

Of the few times I have actually lost it and thrashed out, people realized that I do draw a line and that I am not above going crazy if it meant telling people enough is enough. Heck, I have even been praised for standing up for myself that way!

Yeah you’re right that it does take great strength, it’s also the biggest waste of it.
It is obvious that you do not know WHY this is so though.
The Reason is that, at the end of the war, when the Japanese constitution was being drawn up, the Japanese government feared the “militarist element” in their society so much that they insisted on a clause renouncing war as an option of national policy. They learned the lesson that the “Evil” that is war is no good and have taken peaceful steps to prevent it.
Yeah and what planted that fear? You guessed it! Their loss in the war! I am aware of how restricted Japan now is in terms of military. It doesn’t take a history professor to figure out why that is so after seeing what the loss brought upon them.
I don’t really think that this is true. The great good that came from MLK’s and Ghandi’s Peaceful Revolutions gave far greater strength to their movements than any violent revolution could garner.
Oh yeah, good 'ol Pastor King Jr did put an end to outright public discrimination of blacks but now we have reverse racism and the likes of 50 cent dissing on anybody who’s not a “gangsta”.

You have people who react badly to criticism and instantly pulling out the race card. (“You’re firing me cuz I’m black!”) As much as I admire him for promoting equality, he is sadly being used as an excuse to promote an unhealthy fear of “racism”.

You think the Brits were the only enemy Ghandhi had to face? It wasn’t an English fellow who shot the poor man. It was a Hindu extremist named Nathuram Godse. If anything, many of those on the Muslim VS Hindu crisis in India could go as far as to say his pacifism only worsened the situation.

Let’s see, in games you get to do things you know you could never do in real life. You don’t get injured playing them and when your character dies, you just respawn. The more action-oriented varieties of such games sharpens the reflexes and even teaches strategy. Furthermore, the adrenaline rush it provides just feels sooooo good.

Again why is it bad?

Honestly, it really is just like boxing training or going the shooting range. In games, you attack and subdue the opposition in the same way a boxer attacks and subdues a punching bag/dummy or a shooter riddles a moving target. The only difference is that the virtual has fancier dummies. 😛

Better still is to learn the ways of Christ. The ways of peace and justice so there is no need for anyone to attack you.

People will find reasons to hate and attack you no matter what you do. My evidence? I have lived my whole life being shot down for the dumbest reasons, no matter how much I tried to keep to myself or change. Heck even today, I got a fat, pseudo-racist jerk who hangs in one of my local haunts and he practically hates me for being Christian, for defending the Catholic Church when he started spouting his anti-religious garbage (and it was only one time plus I had someone else with me to help), and he’d probably hate me for having a lot of American friends online (thus he’s a pseudo-racist because he claims he “doesn’t hate whites, just Americans”, that “American” is a nationality not a race, and that he feels confident that he can wish death on every American just because they’re American).

I’ve decided never to speak to that psycho ever again even though we have friends in common. I put up with his mean-spirited comments about how he relished the Christian persecutions in Rome, how he liked particularly the way they threw them in the lion’s den. The guy’s a complete sicko yet here I am, having to bite my tongue just so I can prove to people like you that “turning the other cheek” doesn’t do anything. He hasn’t changed, heck he’s way more outspoken than ever.

Yeah pacifism works all right, it works in letting jerks like them run around saying whatever the heck they want while Christians are forced to be “silent and meek” because the pacifists are twisting scripture. If anything it has the potential to be just a great obstruction to justice as wanton bloodshed.

I am sorry you have been subjected to such abuse. When I find myself in similar circumstances I try to recall “Christ’s Stripes”, when He was being beaten tormented and tortured during his passion. This too he endured quietly for our sakes.

When I was younger, and even in Catholic grade School, I found myself confronted with people who threatened to attack me for whatever reason. My response to them would always be, “What would fighting change?” If they beat me up it would not change my views, and If I beat them up it wouldn’t change their view. Fighting was just a useless waste of energy.

The same thing applies in the situation above. Regardless of how you respond, by silence, or by verbal defence, or by “punching his lights out”, the odds are that he will remain just as much a “jerk” as ever. The only thing that might change is that he won’t verbally attack [uyou but his heart remains just as corrupt.

Such situations, in my opinion, are more about the people around such the two poles, Good and evil, than it is about the two “protaganists”.
In the case you relate, the people around you two see this person being verbally abuse of you and of “Americans” etc. to the point that he is “psycho” - that he is out of control. Others see this too, and make no mistake. They can also see your response - control, faith, confidence. No need for violence. Truth stands despite the the foul winds blown at it. And you stand forth for Truth; for common sense, and for intelligence.
Your greatest weapon in this fight is intelligence. He spews ignorance. You respond with intelligence. If not immediately - cause these types rarely stop long enough for intelligence to penetrate - then at other times. Not directly to him but to others who are NOT “pshycos”. The result is that any support his views might have had are undercut.
You cut the support out from under him. He is reduced to a silly looking, loud mouthed, bully.
This is possible because the majority of people can see such bullying for what it is, AND they can see strength. Strength that is displayed in cool, deliberate, and non-violent responses to such bullying.

As you know it is not easy, but it is FAR from being a waste of time.

Also - let me suggest that you pray very hard for this person. Pray that God open his mind and heart to the Truth.

Just remember the Words of Christ - Mt 5
9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 "Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you.

I am sorry you have been subjected to such abuse. When I find myself in similar circumstances I try to recall “Christ’s Stripes”, when He was being beaten tormented and tortured during his passion. This too he endured quietly for our sakes.
Look I know your intentions are good with all this advice but I just don’t think my own life finds it effective. However, discussing it further here will only bring this thread reaaally off topic. If you want to convince me how the peaceful approach works (though I doubt it), I’ll make a new thread in the category of your choosing. For now, I’ll stick to my position that playing violent games has no negative effects on mature people and if ever managed to get my hands on a copy of Grand Theft Childhood, I’ll even discover how it can be beneficial. Good evening.
