This is from a White House transcript:

THE PRESIDENT: Let me just tell you, we have — we started off with empty cupboards. The last administration left us nothing. We started off with bad, broken tests and obsolete tests.
[later]
Q And as for, you say, broken tests, it’s a new virus. So how could the test be broken when you needed a new test?
THE PRESIDENT: We had a broken — Jim, we had broken tests. We had tests that were obsolete. We had tests that didn’t take care of people.

Someone please explain how anybody in this world could expect that tests leftover from the Obama Administration (?) could have anything to do with testing for COVID-19 in 2020? What on earth? What part of a diagnostic test for a virus could even possibly be unexpired if it were prepared in 2016?

Explain this claim. Do not get off the subject. Get your science heads together and explain what on earth this claim is about.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve just grown numb to the sheer amount of crazy that’s coming from the U.S. administration. I would’ve been shocked at this a couple of years ago. It’s just routine at this point.

President Trump was asked about food.

He began instead musing about tests.

When asked to clarify he said he was talking about influenza tests.
(Trump clearly knows this is a new virus.
Trump never said we started off with broken Corona Virus tests. He explicitly expounded on flu tests.)

What is the problem?

The stockpile regarding ventilators was obviously “bare” (but admittedly President Trump answered all of this in response to a question about food).
Q But aren’t you seeing massive lines for food?

THE PRESIDENT: Let me just tell you, we have — we started off with empty cupboards. The last administration left us nothing. We started off with bad, broken tests and obsolete tests. . .
.
. . . THE PRESIDENT: We had a broken — Jim, we had broken tests. We had tests that were obsolete. We had tests that didn’t take care of people.

But here’s what’s very important: If you take a look at the swine flu, H1N1 . . .
I just don’t see what the issue is here.

Let me clarify: Your explanation is that the President is explaining his response to this pandemic by saying there were bad, broken and obsolete influenza tests when he took office. In 2016.

The president was asked about food.

Just look at your own link. (I posted it too. In context.)

And then the President began musing about generalities with this pandemic including “tests”.

When asked for clarification, he said flu tests.

The cupboard was obviously bare regarding ventilators too.

Wasn’t it?

But the cupboard is no longer bare in regards to ventilators.

And this is certainly great news!

Vice President Mike Pence will travel to a General Motors plant in Kokomo, Indiana, on Thursday to celebrate the dramatic surge in production of ventilators as the fight against the coronavirus pandemic continues.

Exactly a month earlier, President Trump vowed the United States would move quickly to build more ventilators. . . .

You sound kind of like he does.

I understand he was talking about influenza tests. What do influenza tests leftover from the Obama Administration have to do with food lines or COVID-19 and what does the state of any inventory left by the Obama Administration have to do with the state of the union three years later?

Again: Stick to the topic. I didn’t ask about ventilators. I asked what his claims about broken or obsolete tests are all about. What tests from the Obama Administration was he hoping to have found “in the cupboard”?

Disregarding the fact that this is totally off-topic, you do realize that that Snopes article lists a bunch articles debunking what he said right?
You’ve played yourself here

I told you.

He was asked about food and began musing.

I am sticking to the topic.

Go read your own link. The ventilators were part of that discussion that YOU posted.

Here it is again . . .
THE PRESIDENT: Nobody would think that about New Jersey. But it’s a great place and a great state. And they have a wonderful man that’s running it, who’s — he runs it with heart and with brains, and he — he’s done a terrific job. We are together. We are working closely. I think we — somebody said we got you more ventilators maybe than any other state, which surprised me also.

GOVERNOR MURPHY: Yep.

THE PRESIDENT: But you’ve used them well. . . .

. . . GOVERNOR MURPHY: First of all, Mr. President, to you and your team, we’re incredibly honored to be here. I thank you for the enormous help in our darkest hour of need: ventilators; as you could see, PPE; testing sites. Now, I think, we’re going to be in a very good place thanks to you and your team as it relates to expanding testing dramatically so that we’ll be able to begin to take those steps to reopen.

We’ve been crushed as a state. As you know, it’s a state you know very well. We have 6,770 fatalities. But the curves, thank God, are beginning to show promise. . . .
Bold mine.

There are another dozen times where ventilators are discussed in the article YOU posted.

Trump may or may not be talking about tests for the Flu or Covid

But what if I told you Fauci and the Obama Administration had connections with the Wuhan lab? Fauci is on record saying that “the next president will have to face a pandemic” right before Obama left office. Now how in the world did Fauci know that???

Well, HE ISN’T A PROPHET so he apparently knew something that all of us didn’t know at the time. If you believe anything that the mainstream media is telling you, you need to wake up and start researching or start asking questions and get the other sides opinion to make any sense of this. The doctor that discovered HIV looked at the Covid virus and said it was man made…and guess what happened next???

BANNED on all social media!!! If you don’t realize there is an alternative agenda to this global quarantine once again you need to start asking questions.
You really don’t have an epidemiology background, do you?

Thank you, Bush Administration, for this very forward-thinking pandemic plan!!!

Explain the claim about bad, broken/obsolete tests. What were the tests he is talking about and what “good” tests was he expecting to still be “in the cupboard” after three years?

“There is no question that there will be a challenge to the coming administration in the arena of infectious diseases,” he said in a speech titled “Pandemic Preparedness in the Next Administration” at Georgetown University Medical Center. He delivered it just days before Trump was inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2017. - Fauci

PetraG . . .
Explain the claim . .
I already explained it. Twice.

Do you think President Trump wasn’t aware that the Wuhan Corona Virus was NOT a new virus??

If the head of NOAA said there is no question that the US would be hit by a major hurricane during the next Administration, would that be evidence that Harvey and Maria were the product of a Deep State weather plot?

Do you think the Obama Administration is responsible for anything having to do with the state of medical testing in 2020?

Wha…
Bill Gates clearly predicted this pandemic as well then, since he’s expressed similar concerns.
If the head of NOAA said there is no question that the US would be hit by a major hurricane during the next Administration, would that be evidence that Harvey and Maria were the product of a Deep State weather plot?
Obviously. Can’t trust big weather.
Also totally unrelated but NOAA has a small explanation on the logistics of launching nuclear missles into hurricanes and it’s a hilarious read.

I think that example is a little unfair. Predicting a pandemic is a little different, when was the last time something like this ever happened?

You just got done telling me to stay on topic.

Now you are asking about my opinions.

This is my opinion.

I don’t think this was a good example to attempt to dunk-on-Trump on.

Predicting the pandemic? Plenty of experts have been warning about one for a bit. Heck I think some Massachusetts officials even warned about a novel lung disease that could infect the world a few decades ago.
Those predictions (warnings really, they can’t be called predictions) are only now getting mainstream attention for obvious reasons.
