And I am not even talking about his claims of Aaron and Mechizadek…

According to the Book of Mormon, Nephi and family left Jerusalem and came across to somewhere between Jersusalem and the Planet Krypton and developed a society that, as we have discovered, had millions of people and huge cities and splendiferous battles…that all evidence of vanished from the face of the earth.

But here is a puzzling thing…Nephi was Jewish (despite his invention of reformed Egyptian when he arrived to somewhere between Jersusalem and the Planet Krypton). First, every Jew knew that there was ONLY one Temple. No Jew in his right mind would ever consider making a new temple. There was only one. No matter how far away you lived from the temple, you went to THE temple. Yet Nephi, being the good Jew he was, took it upon himself to build a temple that rivaled the size of the one he left behind (of course, there is no evidence of that structure, either). Does that sound like something a good Jew would do? Of course, the CoLDS response is that God told him to. Always a convenient reply. Yet, did God do that? There is nothing in the Scriptures to indicate God wanted or needed another temple.

Next, we come to the Priesthood. First, though the LDS claim to resemble the early Church, they have a Melchizedech Priesthood that no one ever heard of, other than a couple of mentions of the name. The early books of the Bible go into great detail about the Aaronic Priesthood and who could have mit, what they had to do, when they had to do it, etc. Yet, God was strangely silent about this other Priesthood that apparently existed at the same time.

But, back to Nephi…all of a sudden, we have Nephites doing Priestly duties. But how? God was VERY clear…only a descendant of Aaron could do those duties. The Nephites were not from Aaron. That is, unless I was taught wrong in the MTC, by every LDS teacher, and by every Bishop, mission president, etc.

Temple workers today in LDS temples are not descendants of Aaron. More corruption.

Now, I know, the LDS will say God told them change it. How wonderful to have a god that you can mold to fit whatever you want to believe and do! Of course, this is the same “god” who told BY that Adam was god, that told the Mormons to be racist, then changed his mind when it became bad, etc…

So, again, Joseph corrupted the priesthood for his own benefit. This, in addition to the plethora of other evidence we have displyed, shows Joe did NOT have the authority from God to do ANYTHING!

You sound very knowledgeable and I agree with everything you stated. I think that Joseph Smith was not counting on modern archaeology to refute him. Also, I find it difficult to consider LDS to be Christian at all, and that is what I find to be not only heretical, but evil, that they use the name of the Lord in an effort to seem to be orthodox Christians.
I have trouble even seeing them as monotheists, since they do not see God as the Father Almighty, Creator of the universe, but instead as a “lesser god” among many, and that they themselves will become “gods” in time. That’s paganism last time I looked.
Your references to Krypton also remind me of Scientology, another pagan “religion” also currently in vogue.

I ask this question with NO anger invovled. I ask out of geniune honesty. Of course you have the right to post whatever you want.

Mormons agree with us on most social issues like abortion, gay marriage, prayer in school, divorce, important things like that. Why insult the founder? Wouldn’t it be better to say, “Let’s focus on other things like secularlism, abortion, all that jazz, and then we can get back to debating one another?”

Again, I’m just curious.

Flame on.

Nobody is disputing that the mormon “people” don’t do good things, just like those of most any other faith.

However, the problem comes with the theology surrounding it, and how their theology got to where it is today. It is constantly changing, with no rhyme or reason for the most part, where the Catholic faith has held steady through the ages.

We also must not forget that their founder said that the creeds of all other churches were an abomination. That would include Catholics, Methodist, Baptist, etc. etc. Don’t you think it is important to expose these things?

Thanks for the answer. More importantly, thanks for being a gentlemen about it! 😉

I guess I just view things differently.

By the way, your signatures are great.

Joe did not corrupt the Catholic Church…he couldn’t…because Jesus promised that the gates of hell would never prevail and Jesus would not lie.

Your first post on this thread said you are a catholic. Then, in your next one you had changed that to “non-catholic catholic.” Why? One could infer many things why that was important enough to you to change, but why not give it to us from your own brain?
By the way, I’m sure there are some very nice wiccans out there, too.

MarthaTherese,
I get it–you seem to think LDS and wiccans are fulfillment of the following prophecy, yet as regards the definition of God arrived at in the council of Nicea, it would appear that the shoe may well be on the other foot since Catholics claim they got their belief in “one God” from the Jews, yet the Jews as a people rejected the Redeemer who lived among them.

Deut. 4: 28
28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

The LDS believe in God the Father who “sees, and hears, and eats, and smells”, and in Jesus Christ who is resurrected and who “sees, and hears, and eats, and smells”. The LDS recognize the Redeemer, the Rock of salvation, the God of Israel, Immanuel, God with us, Alpha and Omega, the Prince of Peace.

Here are words fulfilled by these beliefs in the living God:

1 Nephi 15: 15
15 And then at that day will they not rejoice and give praise unto their everlasting God, their rock and their salvation? Yea, at that day, will they not receive the strength and nourishment from the true vine? Yea, will they not come unto the true fold of God?
2 Nephi 4: 35
35 Yea, I know that God will give liberally to him that asketh. Yea, my God will give me, if I ask not amiss; therefore I will lift up my voice unto thee; yea, I will cry unto thee, my God, the rock of my righteousness. Behold, my voice shall forever ascend up unto thee, my rock and mine everlasting God. Amen.

Reading your posts here on this thread remind me directly of the fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy in Daniel 7:

Dan. 7: 25
25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Rascalking,
Thanks for defending the LDS even though our beliefs may differ from yours.

Ma’am, with due respect, I don’t know what your talking about.

I haven’t changed anything. It’s been a “non-catholic catholic” for weeks now. It’s because I like to have fun and have a sense of humor. I also call myself a Zoroastrian Catholic, Baptist Catholic, and an atheist who believes in God.

Yes, there are some nice Wicans. That’s why I **generally **don’t judge your beliefs~I leave that up to God. I DO judge your actions.

Yes, the Jews rejected the Redeemer. That’s what makes us Christians and them Jews.
I fail to see how you get a slam on catholics from that! And exactly how am I rejecting the Most High?" The “Most High” is God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth. How can you believe in Him and think you will become a god? There is NOTHING in Holy Scripture to support this belief.

I don’t see anything in the scriptures you posted (including the one from the Book of Mormon) that gives permission or direction from God for the LDS beliefs:
  1. That it is permitted to baptize the dead.(whether or not you are blood related)
  2. That each adherent to LDS will become a god after death and rule worlds
  3. That your interpretation of Deut. 4:28 is something that God ordered his people to do rather than a warning prophesy of what will happen to the people of God if they worship idols.
Quoting from the Book of Mormon is never a way to justify LDS beliefs if you want to establish legitimacy as Christians. I have never conversed with an LDS who could justify these practices and beliefs in the Holy Bible, most particularly in the gospels.
I have compassion for all of God’s children, but I cannot defend a faith that denies the Omnipotent nature of God. I cannot defend a faith that was founded on lies, fantasy, and lust.
As I pray every day: “Jesus…lead all souls to heaven, especialy those most in need of thy mercy.”

Don’t worry so much about it. The LDS have Joseph Smith to save them. He’s greater than Jesus Christ!

It really fascinates me that we, as non-Mormons, claim to know so much more about their religion than they do.

TikiTokiguy, I don’t mean to pick on you, I really don’t, and if your a former Mormon, than obviously this doesn’t apply to you.

I just find it amazing that we are so quick to get angry at the theology of another religion while there are clearly greater “adversaries” (for lack of a better world) in the world than the church of LDS. I honestly don’t get it. Why pick on LDS? Jealousy? Angry at them for some reason? Beats me.

If we keep bashing the LDS, let’s at least not expect them to walk with us on social issues like abortion, gay marriage, things like that. Either that, or admit that it’s more important to squabble with them on theology rather than those above issues.

For what little it’s worth, I view Mormons as my brothers/sisters who walk with my Lord.

TikiTokiguy, you are letting your personal bitterness get the better of you. You know better than this one. No LDS believes that, and claiming things like this about LDS is going to undermine your credibility for future criticisms.

Their founder was a liar and a deceiver and calling him such is not meant to be an insult but is meant to tell the truth.

Oh. Didn’t know you personally knew everything about him and where qualified to make that statement. Have you read only negative things about Joesph Smith? Have you read anything postive about him? Neutral? Are you making that claim without thinking it through?

Calling someone a liar and a deceiver is a very serious charge. Be careful when you do say that. I am NOT saying anything against you, by all means, your free to think and do what you want. However, be very careful.

The personal failures of the founder of their church is totally irrelevant to how they act. That’s the bigger picture-look at how they ACT, not what they think. Again, I’m not a Mormon, but I’ve read the book of Mormon and know a little about their faith (very little, I admit) but I am so fed up with the LDS bashing that it makes me feel ashamed to be Catholic.

Rascalking,

Many of us here who have issues with Mormonism are former LDS and have a very deep understanding of Mormonism. I myself served a mission to Taiwan, was married in the temple, taught LDS Sunday school for many years and served in many callings, including Elders’ Quorum Presidency and as 2nd counselor in a bishopric.

We do not criticize LDS teachings and practices out of idle spite. We do it out of concern for the many people they dupe into their cult by lying to them and withholding the true teachings from them until they have the gullible person firmly in their clutches.

They send out 50,000+ missionaries to tell the world that the beliefs of every other church is an abomination before God, and that all who profess those faiths are corrupt. The LDS lure young people, even children into their religion, and then convince them that their parents and families are “unworthy” and that they should no longer associate with them.

Mormon leaders often encourage a new member who is married to a non-member to divorce that non-member and find a “worthy” Mormon spouse who can be with him/her in the celestial kingdom.

Mormons lie, preach false doctrine and break up familes. I have witnessed these things personally and continue to correspond with dozens of people living through the same nightmare. If you want to see hundreds of examples, check out the Yahoo group called “Mormons Have My Child” (MHMC). You will read the stories of people who are suffering through the devastation of Mormonism actively breaking up their families and alienating their children from them. There are also many other sources where you can learn of people whose families are suffering at the hands of deceitful Mormons looking to alienate children from their parents. If you google “Mormons have my child” you will see a number of sources.

i heard GB Shaw was at least the next best thing to Atheist…

in any case, he seemed to think prostitution should be legalized…

geeze… don’t we already have enough people in the wolrd who don’t want to be faithful???

Joseph Smith corrupted marriage… by desiring polygamy, which his wife vehemently fought against, even after his death… at least someone in the family had some common sense…
