At the Melkite Church, the Divine Liturgy lasts about 75 minutes. Some days, when the bishop is celebrating, it can go longer. I believe it should take as long as it takes to celebrate the Divine Liturgy reverently.:byzsoc:

Realistically it just depends on different factors. Like the number of people receiving and how long the homily is. Also different sundays and Saturdays are different depending on what is happening in the calendar. For example forgiveness vespers can last a long time.

At my parish matins and vespers goes about 2 1/2 hours. I confess between matins and vespers while the choir, deacon, and readers take the service a while.

It is contingent upon what liturgy is being said. I’ve never been to a Coptic Catholic liturgy but if it’s anything like their Orthodox counterparts it’s very lengthy. Meanwhile, as other posters have said, some Byzantine liturgies are 1hr 30min. The parish I go to for the Maronite liturgy usually lasts only an hour 20min although if Safro (the morning office) was done before Qurbono I think it would be easily an hour fifty.

From what I’ve been told (and I admit it’s hearsay) and from what I’ve seen via broadcast, the CCC is quite abbreviated as compared to the COC.

And that 80 minutes often includes a 20-minute (and occasionally longer) sermon  , plus the sometimes overdone Novus Ordo-style “introductory remarks” plus the announcements (which I’ve seen go on for 10 minutes or more, and which can also involve what amounts to a second – or third, depending on the “introductory remarks” – sermon), etc which reduces the actual time to about an hour or less. 🤷

As long as it takes. At least, that’s the answer that my priest would give you. 🙂

Typically, ours lasts about 80 minutes, but has been known to go nearly 2 hours on a regular Sunday.

When discussing the length of the liturgy, it is important to know if it is just the Divine Liturgy being discussed, or does it include Matins and other services as well. In many parishes, these are prayed seamlessly.

Sounds about right OP. I honestly lose track of time because I also attend the social gathering after the Divine Liturgy and participate in a Theosis group. Before you know you went from the liturgy at 10am to 1pm in no time!

This made me laugh out loud. Thank you

The Liturgy is infinite and never ends!
I was thinking the same thing while reading these posts. 🙂

While portions of our earthly participation can be unnecessarily drawn out, the overall experience never seems to be long enough.

Maronite rite daily Mass takes about a solid hour (are they considered “Eastern”) ?

Where is this??? In my many years of experience, it’s usually between 20 and 30 minutes for an ordinary weekday (not a HDO), maybe a few minutes more if there’s a sermon.

Officially we are considered one of the Oriental Churches. 🙂

Oh, I see. But that’s a monastery and is in no way representative of any parish church. 🙂
I only attended a parish Maronite rite parish church once before, and it was on a Sunday and was definitely longer than an OF Sunday Latin rite Mass (45 Mins).

I visit the Maronite monastery from time to time, when I am able to (I’m a Latin rite Catholic).

Sadly our Ruthenian D.L. only lasts 50 to 55 minutes. Including a Eucharistic minister to hurry things along.

So your parish routinely has 75+ communicants?

Ruthenian Particular Law DOES allow for EMHCs… but limits total MHC’s to 1 per 75 communicants, says the priests and deacons must be the first ones chosen, and until all able bodied priests and deacons are distributing (the Ordinary MHCs), no subdeacons nor laity may.
