How long have you been Catholic?

Technically I’m a cradle Catholic. However, I recieved all my first sacraments and spent my teenage years at a parish that was trying to legally break from Rome…that preached contraception, no mortal sins, no need for confession, statues were idolotry, Bible reading was for prots, you didn’t have to follow the Pope, women could become priests, priest should be married, etc…

To them church was about giving a good donation, learning how happy Jesus made you, getting free coffee on the 3rd sunday and a couple of really good craft bizarres that were the admiration of the tri-city area.

so basically a protestant church…

discovered Catholocism in it’s true form at age 19, just before college.
 
Since July 3, 2009 🙂

I wasn’t really raised with much of any faith other than the few years that my mom took me to the Church of Christ that my great grandparents went to but I was never baptized in any faith as a child. I went to my first Mass with a school friend when I was a freshman in high school and I knew right then and there that the Catholic Church was where I was supposed to be, I cannot describe the feeling I felt other than to say it was a feeling I had never felt before and it was amazing. The path home to the Church took me 22 years and a lot of trials but I found a great priest who was willing to work with me for RCIA and the day I became Catholic is a day I’ll never forget as long as I live.
The irony is my mom is also a convert. She converted before I was born and I cannot figure out why she never had me Baptized as an infant, I did ask her and she admitted she had no good excuse as to why it wasn’t done.

Ah well no worries now…I am finally Catholic and blissfully happy.

Me, too! Although I was away for about 20 years, mostly 'cause I didn’t know how to defend my faith. (Lame, huh.)
 
I don’t think I really fall into any of the categories on the poll… I was baptised Catholic as an infant, but I just found that out! I went through RCIA 3 years ago, and was received into the Church, but, technically, I have been Catholic all my life!🙂
 
baptized Mormon, raised secular, converted this past Easter 😉 (a week after my birthday too :D)
 
I am not Catholic yet, but I will be received into the church at the Easter Vigil 2010. I am currently unbaptized.
 
Confirmed 2/17/08. One of the members on our RCIA team is a proud cradle Catholic of 71 years.
 
I am a cradle catholic but had a period of time of discernment after the death of my son.
 
I was blessed to enter in June of 1999. So 10+ years and counting…it’s still the best decision I ever made! 😃
 
umm…idk honestly.
well over 10 years i think.

at first i didnt care because i was just a kid.
then teen years got annoying and hated it for some reason?
but meet my church friend Dolores like 2002? and my life has changed.
was almost perfect. lol
 
I have been Catholic for six years now. When I attended other Churches I felt as if something was missing. I also,didn’t agree with their hateful attitudes torwards other Churches,including the Catholic Church. If these people are Christians as they say they are. Then why they can’t accept other Christians as they are. In the Catholic Church that I attend I have never felt isolated,or even downgraded in anyway. As a Catholic I now have a personal,and better relationship with Christ. Through my Catholic Church I have learned and became one in my faith and the path that it leads me.
 
I LOVE LOVE LOVE hearing about everyone’s conversions!! It’s amazing and awesome to me!

I’m a cradle Catholic, raised by a convert mother (who converted for a boyfriend who ended up breaking up with her, but she stayed with the Church) who was very devout. We had a holy water font and everything!! 🙂 I went to catechism and Confession every Saturday. I still remember my First Communion and how exciting it was to finally receive the Host.

When she died I was 10, and since my father was a convert and not at all devout, we stopped going to church. Thence began a long period in the desert for me. I never stopped searching, but I turned to witchcraft, paganism, almost dabbling in demonology, as well as Buddhism and new age beliefs. What a mess! I did not consider myself to be a Catholic at this time, from age 10 - late 20’s.

My hubby was as lapsed as I was when we married civilly. Then I got pregnant, got sick, realized that I was totally helpless and fearful for my baby’s health and safety. I prayed and asked God to forgive me. I found peace and started back to the Church from that moment. Both my sons have been raised in the faith although their father only fakes it for their sakes. He can’t even say he believes in God…

Is that TMI? 🤷

I was a recovering Jehovah’s Witness when I and my catholic girlfriend started dating last year…

Bless her heart, she’s helped to save my soul twice… Once to help me find the right religion (Catholicism), help me fight feelings of agnosticsm, and get me back interested in devout religious studies… It’s because of these studies that I got to know the real truth…

The second time she saved me is when she didn’t leave me alone to suffer in regret when I told her I had been doing something horribly sinful and disgraceful to God and her (viewing porn 😦 )… But she stuck with me and helped me through…

That’s my story 🙂
 
I grew up Christian Reformed (a Calvinist denomination) and converted, as my “Religion” status says, at the Easter Vigil of '09 along with my wife who was raised Free Methodist (Wesleyan).

Cradle Catholic, even early on was sure of the truth of the CC. Never had the desire to search other religions.A consequence I suppose of the teaching of Jesus, through the Philitian Nuns in grade school.
The last 20yrs He has given me more awareness His grace,has manifested itself so abundantly in my pursuit of God, or I should say His pursuit of me, is so obvious, it has become nothing but joy,even in times of stress or sickness ,there just are no words to express the confidence we can have in Him. The life he has given us is so amazing.:compcoff:

God bless you, onenow1, and all Catholics like you. I love being a convert, but I couldn’t have converted if wonderful Catholics like you hadn’t “kept the light on for me.” Without faithful cradle Catholics, there wouldn’t be a Catholic Church for the rest of us to come home to. God is so good!
