Its always a go-to argument from the pro abortion crowd.

Are there reliable facts and percentages?

Doesn’t matter. That entire path has been seeded with political cluster bomb/mines by the leftists, courtesy of some ill considered remarks by republican pols. You are guaranteed to lose any debate involving that road.

Better to take your lumps and acknowledge that although such an experience must be incredibly hard for the victim, abortion simply isn’t a magic time machine that can undo the pregnancy. There unavoidably is a difference between killing an unborn baby and avoiding the conception of one. The baby bears no guilt for the crimes of his father, so how can it be just to give her/him the death penalty?

Oh…I agree totally!

Don’t get me wrong on that point…

In no respect am I citing this number as a rationalization, but maybe 2 years ago I saw a government statistic that said 1% - yes, one percent - of abortions were linked to rape or incest. I don’t have the citation however.

There’s no way to know. You can’t infringe on people’s medical records to find out. It’s not even legal to ask the question.

Any such numbers would be totally dependent upon the honesty of those who are asked. In other words, there will never be good numbers on this. Since abortion is the only embarrassing constitutional “right”, wouldn’t you claim rape or incest as a rationalization for your shedding of innocent blood?

Hospital and medical centers are allowed, and in some cases required, to post anonymous statistics regarding procedures performed. It is also never illegal to ask someone a question, even if that person cannot legally or ethically answer.

I agree that there isn’t a way to know the true statistics. But not because medical records are sealed and questions can’t be asked.

Rape and incest are so underreported. I’d say a majority of rapes go without a report. Incest may be even higher. We don’t know who became pregnant out of the cases that never get reported.

Suffice to say…I’m willing to make an educated guess that the actual number is ridiculously low compared to elective abortions done due to a desire to terminate a pregnancy resulted from consensual sex.

Rape and Incest… Is Abortion Ever Okay?
Studies and statistics consistently show that pregnancies due to rape and incest are rare. According to Guttmacher that 1% due to rape and incest is 14,000 babies per year.
Therefore, abortion is not mainly used as a last resort.
Guttmacher Institute is an arm of Planned Parenthood

Pregnancies From Rape Prove Tough to Count

Whatever the number, it is bound to be rare compared to the abortions that are done for economic and social concerns

It is, in fact, illegal to ask some questions. For instance, the ADA prevents any Housing Authority (or anyone else in position of authority to grant benefits) asking the nature of your disability when you apply for benefits. It’s against the law for them to ask the question.

You cannot ask a patient why they want an abortion.

I agree. But the cases of medically-advised abortion are much higher than the rape/incest group relative to the contraceptive abortion.

speaking as someone who probably would have been aborted if i hadnt been born in the fifties, abortion is NEVER justified. so i feel that the statistics like that are irrelevant. for those unfortunate women who are raped and become pregnant - adoption is the right option.

You are deflecting. We are not talking about the federal government procedures.
**You **cannot ask a patient why they want an abortion.
Yes, a doctor could and should. It may be medically relevant.

Actually, doctors don’t ask. They do take medical histories and ask questions that would be relevant. Why a woman wants an abortion is not one of them.

Again, you are deflecting. We are not discussing what questions are asked during an ordinary ‘appointment’. We are discussing the existence of research into why women what an abortion.

This research exists, because it is legal to ask women why. Participation in research studies is voluntary, but you, me, doctors or researchers may ask. There is simply no restriction as you assert, outside of basic research ethics.

Methinks in any sustainable and probable statistics you’ll find, hardly scratches the surface since the majority of abortions, rapes, and incest goes unreported.
That to me is even more alarming in what some experts estimate is even more horrendous.

Forget just North America. Try to fathom your questions on a global scale year after year after unending year.

Sure the inexplicable sadness of abortion is deeply heartwrenching and overwhelming to imagine. Lets us not forget too the great stigma and affliction of rape and incest that compounds the gravity of all this entire situation.

i totally agree with you, their suffering is immense. the shame rests squarely upon the abusers. i have nothing but compassion for them. i just worry for the innocent babies concieved through no fault of their own. it such a major thing to contemplate isnt it.🙂
