How many Catholics think this way?

You said you quoted Goldstein because of “his credentials”. What credentials would those be? These?

Please explain further how Wikipedia establishes or detracts from anything, namely credentials or lack thereof. It’s basically a public bulletin board, that may be truthful or may not. It may include something, or it may not. What’s the point? Is truth up for a vote, or at the whim of someone who posts on Wikipedia?

When I did a search for anything written by Goldstein, the only sites I found (apart from that one Wiki entry) were antisemitic Traditionalist Catholic websites.

I wonder why that would be? Perhaps the Wiki entry explains that, when it says that since Vatican II, Goldstein’s writings have fallen into disrepute because of the anti-Jewish nature expressed in much of them. The entry says that only Traditionalist Catholics quote from him…which was basically what I found myself when I Googled his writings.

And yes, Jews can become antiJewish…its happened throughout history for a variety of reasons. And such Jews often convert to other religions, as Goldstein did as well. Benjamin Freedman was another one, except that he took the Protestant route. And just like their ignoble fellow converts before them, they used their conversion as an opportunity to turn against their former co-religionists, inventing “Jewishconspiracy” theories and the like.

Here is just one of the many TC sites that contain articles by him:

novusordowatch.org/resources.htm

(BTW I got some interesting results when I typed the word “Jew” into the search engine for that website…lots of antisemitic comments and articles, plus some that even attacked apologists from the CAF site for seeming to be nice to Jews!)

And why might it be that when I did a search for anything written by him, the only websites that turned up anything (apart from Wikipedia) were Traditionalist Catholic sites? I am well aware that, apart from their very admirable defense of the Tridentine Latin Mass, many Traditionalists tend to dislike Jews.
Are you saying that Mr. Goldstein is lying?

salvationisfromthejews.com/honeytable.html

What about the other facts that have been cited here?

I think that Mr. Goldstein addresses you anti-Catholic paranoia very well.

These are a lot of accusations. Do you have documentation? Also, just glancing through, are they all completely unreasonable? Just an example:
306 The Council of Elvira decrees that Christians and Jews cannot intermarry, have sexual intercourse, or eat together
  1. Jews also have a law that they can’t marry outside their religion, so what’s the big deal?
  2. Sex outside of marriage goes against both our moral codes, so again, what’s the big deal?
  3. I have worked with many Jews - they don’t eat with us, or hang around while we’re eating, because Gentile eating habits make them feel physically ill. Perhaps the third precept was for the comfort of the Jews, and not to ostracize them? 🤷
Secondly, with regard to documentation, do you have anything to support this accusation?
325 Conversation and fellowship with Jews is forbidden to the clergy by the Council of Nicaea
I have read the documents of both Councils of Nicea (the first was in 325 AD and the second was in 787 AD); neither Council made any mention of the Jews in any context whatsoever. The subject of the First Council of Nicea was the Divinity of Christ - it produced the Nicene Creed. The subject of the Second Council of Nicea was the proper place of images in worship.

Goldstein has been dead for many years (not sure if you even realized that). He was probably saying what would make his new Catholic masters happy. I’m sure if he lived post-V2, his tune would have been more in line with the modern church’s way of seeing things.

BTW if Jews are “paranoid” of Christianity, we have good reason, historically, to be so. We are not “paranid” without good cause.

Even despite the very long and terrible history we have had with Christianity, we are still willing to come together in the spirit of ecumenism, but only if both sides are truly sincere in their motives to understand each other, and not to seek conversions.

Any reputable historical work on the history of Jews and the church should show you that everything I posted is true.

Most of what I posted can also be found in “The Anguish of the Jews” by Fr Edward Flannery (Paulist Press, c 1964)

You come across with a lot of anger. You seem to go back in history and try to dredge up every perceived wrong (which often, but not always are small things or misunderstandings, including false claims), and take them personally. Have you thought about anger counseling? Why borrow trouble?

Your Wikipedia link really didn’t make any point, is why the question was asked. Now, you seem to be slandering Traditional Catholics. It’s really hard for someone to have any sympathy for a cause when you go about wildly slandering.

Why don’t you seek to confront those with whom you have a real or perceived grievance? As you can see here, there are no antisemitic people. Please look through the posts. Do you see any?

Anybody can become anything… what’s the point?

I’ll say it again, being opposed to the continued practice of Judaism (behavior and belief system) after the Messiah has come, is not the same as being against a bloodline. Anti-Judaism is quite simply not antisemitic prejudice.

Please go confront those who may be antisemitic. As hard as you’ve tried to paint it, you haven’t found any here. What you’ve found here are people willing to defend God (the Father, Son and Holy Spirit), His New Covenant, and pray for those inside and outside the Church.

Actually, one brief glance through The Sources of Catholic Dogma to review both of the Councils of Nicea has already shown that one of your accusations is false - there was no mention whatsoever of the Jews at either Council - certainly no commandment to clergy to avoid the company of Jews - and if I had the kind of time to go through each and every one of these accusations (which I don’t) I suspect I’d find other instances of stuff made up out of thin air, as well.

And I’m still not seeing why you would have a problem with the precepts of the Council of Elvira, assuming they are accurate. Jews don’t marry Catholics, or eat with Catholics, because of their own kosher laws and cultural sensibilities, so it should be no big deal if Catholics return the favour.

What do you think of the many requirements for Jews to wear cloth patches so people could single them out?

Where do you think the Nazis got their idea from, to do the same?

Don’t change the subject - I haven’t gotten to that one, yet.

Do you have any answer to my post?

If you are going to quote people like the late David Goldstein (who, in case you did not know, was one of the Jews who converted and then turned against his former people), and if you are going to quote him under the assumption that what he says about Judaism is true, does that mean I can quote Bart Brewer and assume that what he says about Catholicism is also true?

As you may or may not know, Brewer was a Catholic priest who converted to evangelical Christianity and started an organization called Mission to Catholics, to convert Catholics to his form of Christianity. And there are others like him.

Does it mean I can go ahead and accept what they say about Catholicism as legitimate?
The first body of believers to Christianity were all Jews including the founder Jesus Christ himself. These Jews I am sure practiced Judaism much more than today’s Jews, including Paul himself who was a zealot for the Jewish law and faith., to which they had the temple present. So it is not something new for a Jew to convert to Catholicism. Who comes to the revelation and understanding of the law being fulfilled in Jesus Christ, as did the first century Jews, with the temple present.

As far as Brewer, He misinforms his public about what the Catholic church teaches, to Brewer’s advantage, by informing others what it does not according to Brewer’s opinions and mistranslated facts. Now, I would be inclined to respect his opinion, if he would correctly inform his public what the Catholic church actually teaches, and then teach his own formula’s of Christianity. If he did this though, I dont think Brewer would have much of a following.

So, a practicing Catholic can tell if another Catholic is not representing the Catholic faith correctly, as I am sure a practicing Jew can also detect any deception, considering both Jews are from the same traditions. I dont think the analogy about a catholic expriest who misinforms the catholic faith, to a converted Jew to Catholicism can be justified. For what advantage does the Jew have to speak negative about his past Jewish lifestyle, when it mirrors the Catholic lifestyle but in a more complete way.

Peace

And because he is dead, his writings are invalid (and yes, I did know this, thank you).

Same goes for Catholics. I still have gotten over that Jews collaborated with terrorist Muslims in Spain and North Africa, nor that Anathema at Jamnia that we be erased from the book of the living - as a formalized PRAYER in Jewish liturgy.

I’ll say. I’m amazed at how many people risked their lives for Jews, inspite of it all.

Irena Sendler is just one example

The Spanish Inquisition was not about impossing religion on anyone. It was about not allowing people to lie about what religion they really were. If it was found out that you lied about your religion, saying you were Catholic when in fact you were not, then they expelled you from the Country and the government seized your assets. They were kicking people out, not forcing them to be Catholic. There is a big difference.

You know, Sepharad is not being fair with us. He is not dialogueing with us in good faith. He has a chip on his shoulder and he is blindly anti-Catholic. On this forum he is doing a grave disservice to all the Jewish people. Someone who knows nothing about Judaism could potentially see his post and judge all the Jewish people based on them and come away hating Jews. A Jew who is considering Catholicism might see the post and that will push them all the way to the Church but for the wrong reason. I also noticed that old boy did fail to mention about the Catholics who were expelled from Israel. But he is too Ani-Catholic to even know that it exist or to see that it was wrong. He was probably hoping that Israel would have slaughtered them instead of Just expelled them.

So I will post a web site that I really Hope Sepharad will go to and look over.

I don’t know, maybe he would like to refute what is said about Judaism there.

You said 'we" when referring to the anathema against minim (heretics) in Judaism.

Do you realize that anathema only applies to JEWS who adopt Christianity and other religions? If you are Gentile it does not apply to you.

I’ve seen Marty Barrack’s website, as I have the other Jewish apostates. Most of them knew next to nothing about Judaism before they converted out, often even by their own admission.

On Barrack’s site, he claims to have grown up “Orthodox” (don’t they all?), yet he didn’t know Mashiach from mashgiach!

Here is what actually happened:

The Spanish Catholic monarchs told the Spanish Jews (some of whom were my ancestors), “Convert or leave your country”. Some chose to convert rather than have to leave the land of their birth (esp. since Ferdinand and Isabella required any Jews leaving to surrender all their worldly goods before they did). Most chose to go, and many fled to neighboring Sicily and Italy, where, when the Spaniards gained control over those places as well not long after, forced those Jews to make the same choice yet again. That was when my ancestors chose to convert rather than have to flee again (and give up all their possessions yet again)…but they continued to be Jews in secret.

The Jews who remained after converting kept being Jewish in secret (I would have done the same thing, I think any person would after going through something like that). That was when the Spanish Inq. decided to try them, because to their mind, they were now Catholics (even though to Judaism’s mind, and the mind of the forcibly converted Jews, they never stopped being Jews.)

Catholics are disingenuous when they claim, “But the Spanish Inquistiion never persecuted JEWS!” They know that to Jews and everyone else but Catholics, those people were still Jews.

Cardinal O’Conner is apologizing for harm done to Jews by members of the Catholic Church over the 2,000 years of her history. It says nothing about the Inquisition. It also answers your OP.

Are you willing to forgive?
