My husband and I are BEST friends. Someone said thats weird. I thought this was normal. How many of ya are there?
I agree. My DH is the first person I want to tell any good or bad news to, the one Iād rather be with during a random day, and someone I completely enjoy being with. But heās not one Iād girl-talk with, not someone Iād see the latest chick-flick with, nor someone who would go clothes shopping with me. For that I take my best girl friend.Heās the closest person in the world to me, but heās not a replacement best girlfriend.
Meh, most of my interests are stereotypically male things. I like video games, sports, D&D, action movies, etc. I donāt like chick flicks, clothes shopping, etc and I donāt even know what āgirl talkā is. My one female friend is much like me in that regard. Iām even entering a male dominated field. Iām more comfortable with men and donāt relate very well to women.I am not the āgirlyā type either (?) but I still have plenty of friends who happen to be female. :egyptian:
The spouse SHOULD be your best friend. My husband and I are BEST friends. Someone said thats weird. I thought this was normal. How many of ya are there?![]()
Um, actually I was responding to the person above me who listed off all the things she needs her girlfriends for because she doesnāt do those things with her husband, and I was saying that I donāt really do those things so I donāt need anything in a friendship that I can only get with women.I do not do āgirl talkā I talk and so do my friends - male or female. I think you need to appreciate women more as you seem to have a strange idea that you donāt know how to talk to us by labeling it āgirl talkā.
All my family likes video games and action movies. The biggest athlete is my daughter who is in a special sports class with two hours of training every day (during school hours) and she also does swim training and fencing after school.
Maybe you donāt relate well to women because you are stereotyping us.
I donāt understand how āgirl talkā is not appreciating women? Since both BlueEyedLady and I are women Iād think that we appreciate women very well!I do not do āgirl talkā I talk and so do my friends - male or female. Arenāt any of your male friends married?Um, actually I was responding to the person above me who listed off all the things she needs her girlfriends for because she doesnāt do those things with her husband, and I was saying that I donāt really do those things so I donāt need anything in a friendship that I can only get with women.
I donāt have female friends not because I donāt like women, but because they just arenāt around. Iām not disrespectful towards them, and of course I know many strong, smart women. The hobbies that I take part in, the places I go, the things I enjoy, etc all are male dominated. Same with my fiance. So since all of our friends have become mutual ones it just makes sense that women simply arenāt around.
One is married and several are in serious relationships that are headed that way, but their wives/girlfriends donāt come around much. They have their own friends and interests and usually use the time their boyfriends spend hanging out to do their own thing with their own friends. Actually, a few of the girlfriends are close to each other, but Iām not really a part of it. Donāt get me wrong, Iām sure Iād be welcome and I do think that they are all very nice women, but my interests and personality donāt line up with theirs.Arenāt any of your male friends married?
So, you spend time with them socially, but donāt really feel a connection to them? I feel that way about alot of the women I work with. Itās not that theyāre mean or stupid or anything like that, but I just have practically zero interest in anything they are talking about. Most of them are extremely pasionate about TV and spend the whole time talking about the shows that were on the night before and donāt you just love so-and-so. I have nothing to contribute. I donāt even have cable. Oh well. I guess I should just be happy that they arenāt in the lunch room gossiping about each other. Thatās always the worst! One is married and several are in serious relationships that are headed that way, but their wives/girlfriends donāt come around much. Donāt worry, we always make it a point to invite the girlfriends, especially me since I wouldnāt want them to think that I am just a woman who wants to hang out with their boyfriends without them, but they usually have their own thing.
Yeah, they come around with their boyfriends/husbands every now and again, but for the most part they have no interest in staying up to see the midnight release of the new Iron Man movie, or going to a sports bar to watch yet another football game, or creating characters to play through a new fantasy D&D setting, or having a halo tournament. Iām pleasant with them, but I have more in common with their boyfriends (who Iāve been friends with for years), and yep, Iāve noticed that a lot of their conversation revolves around TV, and like you, I donāt have cable. So, you spend time with them socially, but donāt really feel a connection to them?
