My husband and I are BEST friends. Someone said thats weird. I thought this was normal. How many of ya are there? 😃

We’re best friends, absolutely. If other people find it ā€œweirdā€, that’s their issue not mine.

He’s the closest person in the world to me, but he’s not a replacement best girlfriend.

I would second Jackiemom. My husband is definitely the ultimate go-to person and we are (almost) always there for each other. I can also always talk to him about anything if I really need to. However, I also have many friends and I don’t expect my husband to fulfill all my emotional needs and many times other problems/issues are dealt with in great chats with girl friends.

But I still see my husband as the one I want to come home to and spend time with and always have it be that way. He is definitely my best friend,

Absolutely without question. But I don’t have ā€œgirlfriendsā€, all of my close friends with the exception of one who lives 600 miles away are male and my fiance clicks with them. So I never go out with friends without him and vice versa. If I were the girly type with female friends it would be different I’m sure.

I am not the ā€œgirlyā€ type either (?) but I still have plenty of friends who happen to be female. :egyptian:

I agree. My DH is the first person I want to tell any good or bad news to, the one I’d rather be with during a random day, and someone I completely enjoy being with. But he’s not one I’d girl-talk with, not someone I’d see the latest chick-flick with, nor someone who would go clothes shopping with me. For that I take my best girl friend.

Meh, most of my interests are stereotypically male things. I like video games, sports, D&D, action movies, etc. I don’t like chick flicks, clothes shopping, etc and I don’t even know what ā€œgirl talkā€ is. My one female friend is much like me in that regard. I’m even entering a male dominated field. I’m more comfortable with men and don’t relate very well to women.

The spouse SHOULD be your best friend.

I’m not married yet, but if/when I do, I am not marrying anyone who I can’t confide my innermost feelings to and consider myself absolutely united with.

Yea, my wife’s my best friend and she likes football, baseball, history, the same music, the same faith, there’s no one I trust more.

I do not do ā€œgirl talkā€ I talk and so do my friends - male or female. I think you need to appreciate women more as you seem to have a strange idea that you don’t know how to talk to us by labeling it ā€œgirl talkā€.

All my family likes video games and action movies. The biggest athlete is my daughter who is in a special sports class with two hours of training every day (during school hours) and she also does swim training and fencing after school.

Maybe you don’t relate well to women because you are stereotyping us.

Um, actually I was responding to the person above me who listed off all the things she needs her girlfriends for because she doesn’t do those things with her husband, and I was saying that I don’t really do those things so I don’t need anything in a friendship that I can only get with women.

I don’t have female friends not because I don’t like women, but because they just aren’t around. I’m not disrespectful towards them, and of course I know many strong, smart women. The hobbies that I take part in, the places I go, the things I enjoy, etc all are male dominated. Same with my fiance. So since all of our friends have become mutual ones it just makes sense that women simply aren’t around.

I don’t understand how ā€˜girl talk’ is not appreciating women? Since both BlueEyedLady and I are women I’d think that we appreciate women very well! šŸ™‚

For me ā€œgirl talkā€ is discussing the latest Grey’s Anatomy episode, updating each other on the goings of friends one has seen recently but the other hasn’t, talking about the nugget of wisdom someone learned at our Women’s Bible Study, discussing a fashion magazine article, uplifting each other as we’ve both had bad SAHM weeks, etc. Things that, while my DH could participate in, he has no desire to and instead prefers I talk to my girlfriends.

My husband and I are best friends.

We have our subsequent ā€œbest friendā€ from our past. He has his best friend from the age of 13 and I’ve had my best friend from the age of 15. They know us well on a level that we couldn’t know about each other…what we were like in the past.

I’ve only known my husband for 5 years. I’ve known my best girlfriend for 15 years…my husband has known his even longer.

But still, I feel your spouse needs to be your best friend. Someone you can share virtually anything with…someone who knows things about you that no one else should know.

But…nothing beats going out for drinks or coffee with my best girlfriend. It’s something different and it’s something everyone needs…in my opinion.

We are totally best friends. We do everything together. Nearly all of my other friends are out of town and I only see them occsionally. The only people I spend enough time with to remotely compare to my husband are my close family and my coworkers.

Aren’t any of your male friends married?

One is married and several are in serious relationships that are headed that way, but their wives/girlfriends don’t come around much. They have their own friends and interests and usually use the time their boyfriends spend hanging out to do their own thing with their own friends. Actually, a few of the girlfriends are close to each other, but I’m not really a part of it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure I’d be welcome and I do think that they are all very nice women, but my interests and personality don’t line up with theirs.

Don’t worry, we always make it a point to invite the girlfriends, especially me since I wouldn’t want them to think that I am just a woman who wants to hang out with their boyfriends without them, but they usually have their own thing.

So, you spend time with them socially, but don’t really feel a connection to them? I feel that way about alot of the women I work with. It’s not that they’re mean or stupid or anything like that, but I just have practically zero interest in anything they are talking about. Most of them are extremely pasionate about TV and spend the whole time talking about the shows that were on the night before and don’t you just love so-and-so. I have nothing to contribute. I don’t even have cable. Oh well. I guess I should just be happy that they aren’t in the lunch room gossiping about each other. That’s always the worst!

Yeah, they come around with their boyfriends/husbands every now and again, but for the most part they have no interest in staying up to see the midnight release of the new Iron Man movie, or going to a sports bar to watch yet another football game, or creating characters to play through a new fantasy D&D setting, or having a halo tournament. I’m pleasant with them, but I have more in common with their boyfriends (who I’ve been friends with for years), and yep, I’ve noticed that a lot of their conversation revolves around TV, and like you, I don’t have cable.

And maybe it’s because I’ve always had mostly male friends, but I feel far more comfortable having deep conversations with them and sharing with them than I do women. Of course now that I’m getting married there are definite boundaries there.
