Catholics-are you married to a non-Catholic spouse? Does it cause any tension/frustration/sorrow in your marriage? What religion is your spouse?Does your spouse attend Mass with you? Do you pray with your spouse? Are you raising your children (if any) Catholic? Is your spouse practicing/devout in his/her religion or somewhat indifferent? Does your spouse attend a separate church?
I married my husband when we were both evangelical/non-denominational. We went through RCIA together planning to join the Church at Easter Vigil 2011, but at the last minute I backed out, one of the reasons was difficulty in our marriage. Thank God, the difficulties have been resolved and we have a happy marriage now. I converted in the fall of 2011 but my husband did not. I think when we went through RCIA he was doing a lot of it for me. I asked him now what is holding him back from the Church and he says the main thing is transubstantiation. He just can’t bring himself to believe in it. He is very “scientific” in his thinking. He attends Mass with me usually and we do pray together sometimes (working on doing it every night). He identifies as a Christian but is somewhat indifferent I think to his faith. It looks as though I will have to be the spiritual leader of my home for the foreseeable future. If you can, please pray that this changes. I desperately long to be spiritually led by my husband. I love him so much, but have much sorrow over this. I do thank the Lord that he is at least not antagonistic to the my Faith.
Anyway, I just wondered what your experiences were in being married to a non-Catholic.
