Absolutely not. The Church has never interpreted Scripture incorrectly.
Thats not true and it costed Gallileo his salvation because he was excommunicated and outside the church there is no salvation…See the bull “speculatores domus israel”

Fine…start in chapter 13 though…that will show you the context of just who He was talking to…that would be His Apostles…the first leaders of His Church. Doesn’t need to say THE CHURCH here…that was said when He told Peter He would build His Church on him…but you already knew that…
It was meant for then and now all disciples of Christ which I am one. It never states for your ears only… and clearly alludes to speak to those whom are in HIM as I noted above for example

He was speaking to the disciples directly but it was meant for all…
LOOK…
And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
These things He said whilst talking to His Apostles…You just shot down your own assertion. Thanks…that made it easier.

Your ignoring the fact that he stated the reproving of righteousness.

To come up with this you have to read so much into what is ACTUALLY written. Please don’t add or take away from Scripture.

No sir, not His disciples, but the select group of Apostles. The leadership of His Church then and today.
He is guaranteeing His Church, the same One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church He established on earth that exists today.

Certainly, who did you think defined the extent of the Scripture you read? That’s exactly why we know Scriptures are the true Word of God. They are established by His , One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Where did you think the earthly authority of setting the extent of Scripture lies?
okay, you have now affirmed that Rome can infallibly define the extent of Scripture and the meaning of Scripture, and is it not likewise true that Rome claims the infallible ability to define both the extent of ‘tradition’ as well as the meaning of ‘tradition’?”

Thats a horrible accusation you are laying on me and I resent it.

Even you have to know the truth about Galileo. He was censored for saying Scripture was wrong. Nice try.

Tom,
I say this with all due respect, you have not studied the the bull have you?

Apostolic tradition doesn’t change. It doesn’t grow.

Tom,

Actually yes I have. It was one of those things I couldn’t understand, and as a good Catholic tried to learn. Now I’m not saying the Church acted prudently but that isn’t a matter of Christian morals or Scripture. BTW it does not state geocentrism is correct, but that’s a subject for another thread.

The Farewell Discourse was addressed only to the Eleven. I can interpret Scripture under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. But the Holy Spirit will not guide me into interpretations that conflict with the Apostolic teaching, for it is to the Eleven that Jesus promises to send “another paraclete to guide you into all the truth.” At the Great Commission, also to the Eleven, Jesus said “I am with you to the end of the age.”

So yes: we can all interpret Scrlpture. We are all guided by the Holy Spirit, but the Holy Spirit is the guardian of the unity of the Church. That Unity inheres in the Apostles and their successors.

Okay here is a good example and one that is used frequently by catholics…2 thess 2:15

Is it referenced? and if so how does Rome interpret it?
Because I see catholics continually use it in support of “tradition”
Which to me denies the suffiency of the Holy scriptures.
Scripture is generally held to have “sufficient” content. But, how you interpret and apply scripture makes all the difference. Again, scripture was the last development of the Church, meant to perpetuate the faith in combination with the sacred Traditions of Paul and the Twelve. And, it has! But, clearly much went before it. Should we discard all that went before it, and which produced the scriptures?

Is merely “sufficient” all that you seek? If you love Christ with all of your heart, don’t you seek after the deepest possible relationship with Him? How can you be satisfied with a bare minimum relationship with Christ? What if you really could eat His Body and drink His Blood? What if…?

Regarding the Traditions that Paul spoke of: Should a Christian who hangs on Paul’s every word simply dismiss those Traditions which were so important to him?

Well it is a matter of faith considering his condemnation.

Like what?
“In fact, can you give me a single word Paul taught the Thessalonians in this ‘oral tradition’ you guys are attemptig to identify in that passage?”

Well, I need to go pick up my meatless Pizza. It is Friday after all!
LOL

Only if you demand we need a higher authority outside of the HS to interpret them…
Martin, if I may, I’m wondering what makes you think you have received the Holy Spirit to help you interpret Scripture? I mean, you believe the Bible, right? So how does the Bible say we “receive the Holy Spirit”? Let’s see…

Acts 8
14When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. 15When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into[c] the name of the Lord Jesus. 17Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

18When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money 19and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”

20Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!” (NIV)

Well, Martin, have you received the Holy Spirit from the “laying on of hands” from an apostolic authority? A bishop who has apostolic succession? The oral tradition calls this the Sacrament of Confirmation. Its kind of important. 😉
