Me too!(well 23 pretty soon, but for now we have that in common!) My parish is also not very traditional.I am 22 years old and I wear one :byzsoc:
It is pretty frustrating being in a suburb where your only choices are contemporary mega churches. I need to build up the bravery to drive downtown (scary Houston driving.) I figure that it’s ok for now, since I have no children. My children will need to be brought up in a more traditional parish where they can witness Catholic culture. I was not exposed to a traditional Mass until later, because of where we lived growing up.
I agree that this practice is on the rise among young women. I’m not given the opportunity to explain myself very often because no one ever asks.I’m thinking more women my age will start doing it, once they understand it.
edit: I have considered getting permission from the Priest to begin a project at my parish where there would be a basket of pamphlets and head coverings in the Narthex of the church. They would be nothing fancy, only what I could find at the fabric store on sale. I have noticed that people really like free stuff. If it seemed like it was backed by the Priest, people might be more comfortable doing it. The trouble is I’m not sure if he will go for it.
I got the idea from a Latin Mass community that I once attended where they had a basket for anyone who forgot a veil. Now those veils were not for you to keep, only to borrow. I think that at such a large parish as mine, people would not return them, nor would they wear them if they thought they had been worn (lice issues
I do want to wait until I am finished with grad school though, because I was going to expense it myself and there really isn’t room for that right now in my budget. Also I think I have a better chance of getting Father’s permission if I am not asking for money.
