A recent phone survey in the US by the Pew Charitable Trusts, which follows religion and public policy,among other things, found that of* US Catholics who went to mass at least once a week or more*, 49% thought that the pope’s performance at handling the abuse crisis--was 'fair" or “poor”.

…so almost half of observant US Catholics think that the pope’s handling of the crisis is fair to poor. He should be doing more.

If these Catholics who supposidly think he hasn’t done enough looked at his record and his reforms that continue to this day instead of eating the bile spewing from the biased and ignorant media the poll would look different.

The Church doesnt function based on the results of opinion polls. It wouldnt have lasted 200 years; let alone almost 2,000 years. The Church isn`t a man-made entity.

Here’s a bit more information from the Vatican regarding the newest allegations against then-Cardinal Ratzinger. I would point out that it was already known that the CDF (of which he was in charge) was not responsible for these abuse cases back in 1985. The CDF took over in 2001. Someone should have noticed that something wasn’t adding up.

I think you are going to be very suprised at how this great man will be welcomed in England.Williams has already been back pedaling about what he has said about our Papa. I thought that Anode meant that there won’t be the same kind of excitement throughout society - from non-Catholics and non-Christians - that greeted John Paul II’s visit in the 80s. I’m inclined to say that will indeed be the case. But I’m sure most Catholics will still be very interested and positive, as you say.

I’m sure they will stir up their respective godless communities in a almost completely godless country.

I don’t personally experience things that way. I meet godly people every day of my life here in the UK. The visit of the relics of St Therese, for instance, was the biggest Chrisitan event here since - well, since JPII’s excursion. I think religion is still very important here: it just doesn’t receive the same kind of automatic reverence that it once did, to some extent precisely because of the poor handling of the abuse scandals. But perhaps its no bad thing to have to earn people’s respect
