My understanding is that gluttony is more or less when you go so far as to put food, in a certain sense, in place of God. People tend to say things like, ‘well that’s ridiculous nobody would actually put food in place of God,’ but its not so much a direct act as it is and indirect one.
This is better understood a different way. In our lives, our one true end, or goal, is God. Sin is when we place other things as our end, as our goal in life. It’s almost as though we are on a long path, the end of which is God. Venial sins are those sins by which we might stop along the path to look at something interesting on the side of the path. They are things that distract us from God. Mortal sins, on the other hand, are those sins where we actually walk off the path onto a different path that has something different at the end.
Glutonny is not something as simple as eating a bunch of food. It is when a person is so concerned with food that they make it, in a certain sense, their goal in life. Wheras we are meant to live our lives with our focus on God and leaving all other things to be side notes, a glutton is one whom in a sense lets food be the focus of his life.
A person who is hungry a lot is not a glutton. A person who has a few snacks during the day is not a glutton. A lot of people even eat out of boredom. While it is possible, even these people are not usually gluttons. What you described certainly doesn’t sound anything like gluttony.
