How much do you love Our Blessed Mother?

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

You may not want to answer this publicly, but I’m serious in asking the question because it seems very relevant to the “signs of the times” in which we are living. So if you want to express yourself on this thread I would appreciate it, but even more importantly: I hope at least some who read the question, will ask the Holy Spirit to help them discern a true answer for themselves.

For me, I want to say (almost echoing St. Bernard) “Never enough!” As much as I want to love our Blessed Mother and Jesus through her, it seems to me I fall far short of the “more” I need to love Them. I am not depressed by that; but rather it spurs me on to keep asking in order to receive the graces I need; to seek to love Them more in order to find what I need still to do, and to keep knocking in order for the door to be open for me, as well as for those for whom I pray.

I’d be grateful for your replies on this thread – but – far more importantly-- I pray you will ask the Holy Spirit for His Love and Truth to respond in your heart, and you may do His Truth in Love.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your Faithful. Kindle in us the Fire of Your Love.
Jesus, I trust in You.
Mary, my Queen and my Mother, I am all yours.

Some, but not enough 😭

I did 33 days to morning glory around 2 months ago, for the second time.

Mamma is good 🙂
 
I love her. I know I do a really lousy job of loving her sometimes. I’m not so comfortable with all the flowery stuff, and I will be honest, the words of total surrender in the Marian consecrations can be terrifying. It took me a year to even get up the courage to do one because I was worried I couldn’t live up to the promises. I still have problems with Louis de Montfort (the one I did originally was Maximilian Kolbe and he seemed a little easier to follow). I think St. Louis was a great saint, I just do not have his mindset any more than I have the one of Thomas a Kempis and I am not sure if I will ever be able to fully develop that totally self-sacrificing attitude.

Sometimes I wasn’t good at showing love for my own human Mama either, who I loved dearly and miss all the time since she died.

In the end I thought perhaps it was better to try to make the Marian consecration and ask Mary to please help me. I have been in large prayer groups where dozens or even hundreds of people were making Marian consecrations as a group, and I always suspect a lot of them don’t realize or appreciate fully the words of the prayer they are making. I think some of them just rattle it off. I am sure Mary loves them and will help them all too and I am not putting them down for making the effort, but if you actually read what is being expected of you, it’s not a walk in the park. It can only be accomplished with the help of Mary and Jesus.

Then again, everything we do on earth can only be accomplished with the help of Mary and Jesus, so perhaps that is the point of the exercise.
 
There is no other creature I will love more than Mama Mary! If not for her love and prayers, I wouldn’t be as close to her Son and I’d still be lost within myself.

Often when people tell me they have read Fr. Gaitley’s book, "33 Days to Morning Glory”, I encourage them to read St. Louis De Montfort’s classic little treatise on “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary".

Why? Because I read Fr. Gaitley’s book, and while I can understand how it appeals to the modern reader and how good it is to have the examples of St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Teresa of Calcutta and St. John Paul II to help us in appreciating and loving our Mother Mary more, there is a greater depth in St. Louis De Montfort’s book that I have learned from over many years – and I continue to learn from his words, through God’s Grace.

We will never love Mary or God her Son enough but by God’s Grace, I am sure we can srive to love God through Mary more and more each day.

Thanks for your reply. Only God can teach us how to love Mary and/or anyone else, and that is only by His Grace! He commanded us to love one another as He loved us, and so we can trust Him to give us the grace we need to do this. I believe it was little St. Therese who said:

As I wrote in my original post, we need to keep asking to receive, seeking to find and knocking for the door to open (cf Mt 7:7-11) 🙂

I am sure we would ALL be lost without her, but God loved us so much He didn’t let that happen! He sent Jesus through Mary and He continues to do so spiritually through His Church. 🙂

Thanks for your reply “godisgood” – please don’t stop loving her – for there is no standing still in the spiritual life! We go forward, or backward; we give more or we begin to give less and less.

The lukewarm God will spew out of His Mouth. Perhaps, there is no greater insult than to ignore a person. It seems many do that to Jesus and Mary in our culture at present. We cannot love Mary ever as much as Our Lord does but by His Grace, we need to remember and to keep His Commandment to love one another as He loved us!

As a recent convert, I’m still getting to know the Blessed Mother. So the depth of my love for her is minimal at this time, but growing.
 
As mentioned upthread, 33 Days to Morning Glory by Fr. Michael Gaitely and Saint Louis De Montford’s methods of consecration are both grace-filled blessings

Nowhere near as much as I should and in recent times I have come to realise just how feeble a son I have been to our Blessed Mother over the years. The secrets of the rosary and Glories of Mary I have read very recently and it has made me feel like such a wretch. So I endeavour to love her more deeply each passing day and try hard to show her a fervent devotion.

How grateful I am to God for the graces He has given both of us, dear brother, in recognizing how feeble we have been to our Blessed Mother over the years, and then given us grace to endeavor to love her more deeply each passing day!

Remember the beautiful change in both Peter and Mary Magdalene who repented – they loved much because they were forgiven much! Let us continue to ask for the Grace to love Mary our Mother more and through her to glorify God Her Son!

Great question. The obvious of course is not enough as you pointed out. I’m consecrated to Our Lady, but I comes to those points from time to time asking what else I can do for her on a daily basis. I’ve mostly gotten into the habit of praying the rosary daily, but sometimes it’s more out of obligation rather than a real want to do it. I have to pray to love her and even fast more.

I’m about to head to Spain to stay at a monastery where a friend of mine is a monk. He belongs to a Marian order. My hope is while I’m there, my devotion to her will grow.
