This is more of an intellectual topic but what happens to people who end up being sinners but (at least to human eyes) it seems like they were set up for failure because of being born in the wrong family or home, having bad experiences growing up and ending up where they were due to circumstances? How can someone be on the road to perdition if all they seemed to have seen in life in darkness and had little if any joy or light in their life?

Each retained free will. Some chose poorly while others chose wisely. Faith is not a matter of rich or poor. In fact, I strongly suspect that the “poor” (relative term) tend to be much more spiritually active than the wealthy.

Think: Lazarus and the rich man.
