How often do you go to confession?

Every 1-2 weeks…I try to make it weekly though. I have an hour of adoration each week too and I am finding much grace from that in conjunction with weekly confession.
 
Used to be every two weeks, since I moved out of the city I can only manage once a month or so.
 
Once a week, normally at the same time each week. I find that keeping in the routine of it, along with daily examinations of concience, keeps me from not only falling into sin, but helps me to grow more in virtue.
 
how often do you say sorry to the person you have just ‘hurt’ and is it easy to say sorry or do you pretend you can deal with it better in confession?
 
every 2-3 weeks. But I should go more often. Unfortunately it’s not like in the movies where where there’s a priest just sitting patiently waiting in a confessional at every parish, so I either have to get to mass early or schedule it. 😦

What a strange question. The two (apologising/making amends to those you have hurt by your sins and confessing to God and receiving His absolution) are not at all exclusive of each other.

In fact they are two sides of the same coin, since Jesus said what we do to others we do to Him. Both are necessary.

If anything, I would say going to confession would be, and feel, hollow and meaningless if one did not also make up, as best one could, with those one had hurt. I would also say that the sacrament helps us find the (sometimes needed) strength and courage to admit to and deal with our wrongdoings on a practical level.

But by the same token it is also somewhat hollow to ONLY apologise to other people, and not to God who we hurt most deeply of all by our wrongdoings.
 
Used to be once every 10 years or so.

Then I started going every year or every other year.

Then yearly.

Then quarterly.

Now it is about once a month…sometimes more often, if needed.
 
As needed, but I try to form some semblance of a bi-weekly schedule with it to make sure I don’t forget.

How often I would think would depend on what one has to confess,

But then **what **do we need to confess to a priest??, …

and what is forgiven just by prayer?
(my former protestant-ism showing)

I missed the week before Easter where I think the RCIA class covered this and I’ve not been give much guidance.
I don’t think my mother-in-law ever went in the 25 years I knew her before her death last year.

I used to wonder the same thing…what DO you say?

Only mortal sins MUST e confessed to a priest…missing Mass without a good reason, most sexual sins, murder, that kind of things.

Venial sins can be forgiven in any number of ways, but can also be confessed…impatience, ingratitude, forgetting to pray, procrastination, giving God less than the best, losing your temper, bad language, and any number of other things, gossip, dishonesty…

My priest says confession in not just for mortal sins…it is also for “preventive maintenance” (keeping venial sins from becoming bigger problems)
 
Usually every 4-6 weeks, but I should go more often. With 5 kids under 10, it can be hard to get away. It has been slightly more than 2 months now, and I’m really feeling the need to go.

PM for the soul, huh? Interesting way of looking at it…and I think quite accurate.

Well, with only 3 x so far I definately have a lot of questions.
