How often do you go to Confession?

I put monthly though it usually is around every three weeks…sometimes more, sometimes less (depending on how bad I’ve been able to mess up. I am a Cradle Catholic and I really didn’t grasp the wonderful Joy of this Sacrament until I was 18. Actually, I think I went to Confession three times before I was 18. I wish there was a descrete way for the Church to allow children to attend Confession because sometimes I remember I wanted to go, but I didn’t want to bug my mom and have her ask “what do you need to tell me.”

God Bless,

I’m a convert, and make an effort to go monthly. When I was going through RCIA, I had thought about going weekly. The day of our “first confession” I was telling someone this. The priest overheard and said that NO ONE needs to go that often.

Well then I guess everyone is holier than St. Thomas Aquinas (who went everyday) along with the holiest of Saints that went everyday… maybe he is just too lazy to perform his duty of hearing Confessions?

Monthly at least and if there is a need, more frequent than that.

about every two months, though I need to get back to going once a month. I used to go once a week when I was in college, but a wise priest told me flat-out that I was starting to become scrupulous and I started to spread confessions out more after that. I once went only 3 days between Confessions, the first was a general routine confession, the second was because of an unexpected horrid fight I had with a friend the night before 😦

probably about every six months. When I was younger I unintentionally went two years without confession. Of late I have been able to go every 2-3 months but by that time I forget most of my sins that were really big, or I have several big sins (atholgh they are not mortal, I am told) and the priest just focus on one.

I try to make it every few weeks, not less than once a month.

I try to go monthly, although when I was going every couple of weeks the priest told me that I don’t need to go that often. 😦

I am pretty sure I had read somewhere that our Holy Father confesses daily. I try to go every other week, but it is often every third week.

I find it very odd your priest said that. Perhaps he was trying not to scare off the converts, but nonetheless, it is highly irregular for him to say this. How could he possibly know how much or how often someone sins??

I usually go once a week and some months I only go biweekly. I do so because the more I have studied my conscience and gone to Confession, the more I realize the exact nature of my sins. For example, five years ago I only went to Confession once every few months. Back then I didn’t realize certain things I had done were actually sinful. When I started checking into making a more thorough examination of my conscience I became much clearer about my sins and what actually needed to be confessed. So I do this thorough examination of conscience at least once a week so that I may receive Our Lord in good conscience. Once I realized that some things I was doing were actually much more grave than I originally thought I commenced immediately to become much more thorough in my examination of conscience. This has helped me tremendously spiritually! The penances I have received have helped me immensely! I feel blessed to attend the Sacrament of Reconciliation and feel that it has brought me much closer to Our Lord. I don’t think this would have occurred if I hadn’t gone to Confession as often as I do.

May God bless you and inspire you to this beautiful Sacrament!

Our Lady of the Rosary in her appearances at Fatima, Portugal, asked for the five First Saturday Communions of Reparation for affronts to her Immaculate Heart to include Confession, if not that First Saturday, then within the octave, eight days. I tried to go last First Saturday and time ran out before Mass and I was last in line. I miss this as the grace is so tangible that I need to make a special point to get in there fast. Thanks for reminding me!

I go to confession every week. The priest I usually go to is very encouraging.:yup:

It is my understanding (from valid sources) that the Holy Father goes to confession weekly!! Tell that to the priest who overheard you!!

During the school year I go bi-monthly or pretty close to that, but during the Summer year I find it more difficult. The struggle of summer as my prayer life seems to backtrack, can be discouraging.

Actually, I go about every two or three weeks simply because one of the priests I can get is so mixed up that he doesn’t stick to the right rite in the Confessional and I don’t like arguing with him while I’m trying to Confess. I’ve talked to several folks at that parish and even told him off about it, but they are persistent in their errors. Breaks my heart but then I unite my sufferings with the folks in China who can’t even get to a Confessional and pray.

Peace and all good,

I go weekly. I was under the impression that one cannot receive the Blessed Eucharist with sin on ones heart. Venial dosen’t need to be confessed, right? But mortal does? I suppose I’m not exactly sure how to classify a mortal sin. Can you just do an Act of Perfect Contrition, and still receive the Eucharist?

The priest that counselled me on how often to go to confession was transferred to anothe parish three years ago. I haven’t talked about it with our current priest yet. I hadn’t thought about it. I think that, perhaps, the other priest was concerned about me becoming scrupulous. Or what ever that word is. Besides, I had a hard enough time trying to figure out what to confess and what not.

I’m better now, but there still are times when I wonder about it before going to confession. I try to do an examination of conscience often, but don’t think about doing it daily. I usually forget. Still, I try to ask myself often if there is something I need to confess. Other than the usual bad attitudes.

Only if you have a grave reason for doing so. But normally, you need to confess mortal sins before receiving communion.

A sin is mortal if it is 1) a grave matter done 2) of your own free will 3) with complete knowlege of sinfulness of the action and the consequences thereof
