I was wondering about the same thing a couple of hours ago and the Lord led me to this forum. Thank you to the OP for starting this thread! 🙂

Peace

I try to only go once each week, but I usually can’t make it that long.

Yes, I was about to start my own thread! I mean, I can think of potentially mortal sins I’ve commited since my last post! It’s driving me crazy. Perhaps I should take up our priests’ offer to have a one on one prior to the class reconciliation. :o

So, I guess this mention of those who seem to neglect the sacrament leads to the question: Are tons of Catholics improperly receiving the Eucharist? Or do we chalk it up to inadequete catechesis and they aren’t conscious of their error?

I least once a week. But that’s not to my credit, since most often I need to go at least once a week.

I usually go bi-weekly even if I’ve committed no serious sins, the cleansing experience for me cannot be explained.

I personally go on average every couple of weeks. It is so that the graces are operative. The graces a person receives are proportionate to the disposition of our soul. If a person is in mortal sin, one needs confession so that the graces will produce fruit.

Venial sins are dangerous as they predispose us to sins of a more grave nature.

Also, please don’t forget the sins that seem to be most forgettable when confessing, the sins of omission.

Frequent confession help our graces to be operative for whatever state in life we are in (IE: parents, teens, grandparents, young children). As a parent I understand the need for the fruit that grace can provide.

Another reason for me to really not like the confessional! When I was growing up, the parish we belonged to only had confessionals, no face to face ( is this a new thing- anyway? I didn’t go to confession for about 16 or 18 years, so it was a shock for me- but a good one- to have face to face ). The light was always on -on my side! I always “enjoyed” being greeted with " oh it’s you again…"! Nice, so I rather have the face to face, at least I KNOW he can see me :o …I really feel bad for only going about 3 times a year now, I’m just lazy and can’t muster up the time to get going. I don’t go to communion, though if I know I did something really bad, and then make it a point to go. Probably still not all that great, huh? Well, thanks for all of your answers, it’s very interesting, humbling, yet wonderful to see how many people use this sacrament- or gift, that was given to us from Jesus ( had a great homily about this a few weeks ago…). God bless!

I really value confession but I can’t seem to get myself to go mroe than couple times a year. I can’t even imagine going once a month. Does anybody think it might be because I’m a teen?

Then again I’m not an atheist, not agnostic, I really do believe in the Sacraments. I just find confession repetetive because I do the same sins all the time.

As for panic attacks, I hate having confession face to face (except with this one really kind priest who turns confession into a conversation also- he does most of the talking). I’d rather much go to confession without having the priest giving you that half-guilty half-compassionate look. I also hate it when the priest expects you to do all the talking. I’m going so I can hear words of wisdom and advice.

Does anybody notice the placements of the lights in the confessional?

When the light is on in your cubicle, that means the priest can see you through the screen unless he’s covering his face with his hand like they sometimes do.

If the light is on in the priest’s cubicle, then you could see the priest and it is hard for him to see you. One church I know of has the light bulb on in the penitent’s cublicle and when you look up all you see if black beyond the screen so you don’t know if the priest can see you or not.
