How often do you pray the rosary, and how often is too much?

I pray the rosary once a day but lately I’ve been having the urge to pray it 3, sometimes 5 times per day. Now its true I’ve been delving deeper into my studies of the Catholic faith as I prepare for my baptism and confirmation, but its been in the last few weeks, more and more I’m drawn to it. Its not interfering with my days or anything. I have the time to do it. I was just curious if anyone else goes through periods of being called to the rosary often?

While I don’t do it at all (for me, it is irreversibly connected with death), I’d say that for those called to it, and if it does not interfere with living one’s life, there is no “doing it too much.”

ICXC NIKA.

I’ve been praying it everyday for the past week, and I will for the next few days as well. Other than that, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is very powerful, and I usually pray it every Monday with a few other people.

I usually pray it once a week, except during Lent, then it’s every day.

I used to never pray the rosary, I would occasionally try and start it as a New Years Resolution, or something during lent, but never stuck to it. I decided to make it a goal not tied to a special occasion one day and try to aim for a year of doing it. Since March 18th 2013, I have said it daily. Ironically, a month prior I had given it up trying as it was my New Years Resolution that year.

As for your second question, you can say it as many times as you want. I would say if it is interfering with your health, or life duties such as work, you are doing it too much. I personally do it daily, and twice daily if I’m doing a Rosary Novena.

I try to recite it daily. St. Pio was known to recite the rosary many times a day so I would embrace the blessing of wanting to recite it more than once. 🙂

Do you all always meditate on the days meditations? I used to but now I just meditate on the Passion because that’s the only ones I have memorized.

I meditate on the daily mysteries. Then I change up for Lent and Advent.

That’s good advice. Thanks. 🙂

I always pray the days mediations, but if I pray it more than once I just go on to the next days meditations and so forth.

I do not think praying any devotion more often than usual is asking too much. In fact it is an incredible grace to do so because you are giving God more to do. The more we pray any devotion be it the Rosary, the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy, the Jesus Prayer or any other devotion we give God the ammunition to do more. We are giving God permission to grant more of His Graces so it is always a good thing we need to practice at various times of our prayer life.

I never really say the rosary, but listen to it while playing with my computer. Afterwards, I listen to the Stations of the Cross, by St Francis of Assisi. This is usually my best time of the day spiritually. (coffee may help too).

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the closer you get to entering the Church Jesus founded you would want to reflect more on Jesus and His family’s life.

This is the month of Our Lady of the Rosary so this month we get extra graces for praying the Rosary. You are very blessed to receive this grace. As long as it does not interfere with your state in life or you become obsessive about, you’re fine.

(By obsessive I mean that if a car crashes outside your window, you refuse to help til after you have finished praying the Rosary, or if your spiritual director suggests less and you resent that, stuff like that.)

Oh yeah I understand. Its not anything like that.

I started in earnest in June in response to a personal crisis. It was strange, I just suddenly started. I read through the mysteries, suddenly knew them all, in order within maybe twoweeks. Started saying it (more like pleading it) it was very dark time for me. I started feeling better, now I try and get in 3 a day - I made a series of single decade rosaries to use as they don’t get all tangled and are very easy to carry unobtrusively. I pray one set on the way to work, again on the way home, then a final set at night, often falling asleep doing so. It really calms me and gets my head on straight, so to speak. I tried doing all four sets of mysteries a day, but it seemed to make it too trite, the three a day works well, though I’ve noticed I have been only doing two on weekends. As long as you can function in the everyday world, do as many as you want!

I pray it daily; sometimes twice.

Can you pray it “too much”? If you are neglecting other duties that are necessary to perform, such as earning a living for your family or feeding yourself, then yes. But even 3 rosaries per day is an hour of prayer-- that’s hardly an excessive amount of prayer if you are only substituting prayer for non-necessary leisure alternatives. 🙂

Yay rosary!!!
