How often do you pray the rosary, and how often is too much?

I must admit that I rarely pray the Rosary. Only on special occasions with a group of people praying it. Maybe it is because I am nervous about saying 10 times as many Hail Mary’s as Our Father’s. That has always been something that has deterred me from praying it.

Aside from that, I own lots of them, but I rarely touch them.

Do you all always meditate on the days meditations? I used to but now I just meditate on the Passion because that’s the only ones I have memorized.
The Sorrowful Mysteries are the only ones I have memorized, also, so I either use the Rosary app on my phone or one of my pamphlets for the others until I have them memorized.

Back to topic- I try to pray the Rosary once daily. Yesterday something really scary happened so I said two Rosaries and two Divine Mercy chaplets but that was unusual.

I had not known about October being specially dedicated to the Holy Rosary. I have noticed that over the past couple of weeks I have felt a very strong desire to pray the rosary each day. I am ashamed to admit that I forgot to do it one day a few days ago, and I felt absolutely gutted because of it. Perhaps that is why.

The children of Fatima prayed the rosary many times each day. When Lucia asked Our Lady if Francisco would go to Heaven along with her and Jacinta, the Blessed Virgin replied “Yes…but he must pray many rosaries.”

If you were neglecting the duties of your state of life, that would be a sign of a problem. If you are using your time in this way instead of frivolous pursuits, this is far better.

You might be interested to know about monasteries of cloistered Dominican nuns, such as this one, which pray the rosary continually. They are a very special part of the Dominican family.

My spiritual director is fond of saying that there’s no wrong way to pray. If you’re praying and it’s leading to a deeper relationship with God and to greater love of others, then it’s a good thing.

That said, there are many different ways to pray. Perhaps it would be worth exploring some others to see if they have something to offer you. As examples, consider the Liturgy of the Hours (see divineoffice.org ), lectio divina (see saintandrewsabbey.com/Lectio_Divina_s/35.htm ), or Ignatian prayer of the imagination (see ignatianspirituality.com/3428/ignatian-contemplation ). Something that I like is the website and app, Pray as You Go (see pray-as-you-go.org/home/ ), a daily podcast of about 10 minutes with music, one of the readings of the day, and some prayer prompts.

I personally like variety, so mix different forms of prayer through the day, but that’s me.

I have a set of high-quality 4 by 6 color illustrations of the Mysteries of the Rosary. I lay them out of a lap desk and focus on each image as I pray. It’s very helpful.

Also, I pray along with a smart phone app. A male or female voice says the prayers with you and introduces each mystery. These aids have enabled me to concentrate on the Mysteries without fumbling around and getting lost.

I don’t want to plug the app or the pictures online. If you want to know more, please PM me.

I go on this website- on this page is a link to more details about each set of mysteries. For each decade, they have a series of 10 mini-reflections: one for each Hail Mary. I find it helpful to keep my mind from wandering.

That is the site I used to restart my catholicism! I would strongly reccommend it for a reference.
I second that! Developing a habit of praying the rosary daily using the Dominican resources was the turning point for me from agnosticism to returning to the Church. Our Lady has been central to the graces I’ve received, and it’s a small gesture to show appreciation for such untold divine generosity. The rosary is a special blessing, indeed!

As an aside, I was delighted that my pastor decided to lead a public rosary in the hLf your preceding the Mass I attended today. I hope that becomes a regular habit for the parish, and that many parishioners newly take up this beautiful prayer. It’s a limitless lifeline of mercy and love.

This thread is about the Rosary. Do you have any advice about praying it?

I pray the rosary once a day but lately I’ve been having the urge to pray it 3, sometimes 5 times per day. Now its true I’ve been delving deeper into my studies of the Catholic faith as I prepare for my baptism and confirmation, but its been in the last few weeks, more and more I’m drawn to it. Its not interfering with my days or anything. I have the time to do it. I was just curious if anyone else goes through periods of being called to the rosary often?
:angel1:
Never too much rosary. You will find inner peace.

No I don’t since I was directing my comment toward the other part of the question. Do you have any advice about prayer?

All I know is it feels good to be praying it so often. 🙂
But don’t forget! Our spiritual life should not be guided by our feelings. Emotions change — even contradict themselves from day to day — and if we consistently follow them, our spiritual life will be all over the map. Moreover, all angels (including fallen angels) can influence matter in such a way as to give us certain emotions, which is why Saints like St. John of the Cross recommended *ignoring *one’s feelings or physical consolations we might receive.

The traditional witness to the efficacy of the Rosary is extremely wide and authoritative — and really, that should be sufficient for us. 👍 😛
