How often had Protestants converted people at the tip of the Sword?

Maybe you should read about Our Lady of Guadalupe. Millions were converted to the Catholic faith. They were savages before then.

Lets see…Jews who supposedly do not believe in the truth about baptism or its efficacy…would throw their children into a river to drown in order to avoid having them baptised. Like Christianity is some kind of magic spell that once cast cannot be shaken off…or what? I happen to be circumsized…does that mean I’m jewish?🤷

I thought about that. But then again, it doesnt explain why Catholics were apparently “forcing” the conversion of others.

well, it happened. if you familiarized yourself with the history you would know that it took place. whether it was logical or not doesn’t enter into it.

Constantine’s Sword is rubbish. It is an attack on the Catholic church as well as the papacy. There are many contradictions in this book. It doesn’t matter if the author is a Catholic or a ‘former catholic priest’. Doesn’t hold much water. I read an incerpt from the Catholic League. People need to go to www.catholicleage/research/constantine.html
well, that’s nice that the “catholic league” thinks it’s rubbish. most historians who aren’t biased would say that the book (and the documentary that is coming out) are historically accurate. it is an attack on the catholic church’s actions, not the church itself. it is also an attack on certain popes, not the papacy. try reading it and watching the documentary, you’ll see that he still loves the church deeply but is deeply saddened by the role the church has played in atrocities against the jews. he interviews active priests, one of whom works at the vatican as an historian.

Oh please…this is anti-catholicism at it’s best regardless of what he says. Anyone who attacks the Catholic church’s actions, attacks the Catholic church. And attacking the popes is attacking the papacy.
Pope Pius saved many, many Jews. Hundreds owe their lives to him.

I think that the answer is that many groups have tried to spead something by force. Democracy, ideology, and religion among other things. Some even try to force others to be safer by threatening them. What are the actual numbers? I have no idea and I am not sure how to find out. Just look at any history at all.

This guy Carroll should team up with Davinci’s Dan Brown and count their money on the way to the bank…
Doesn’t matter what comes out on the bookshelfs, my faith in the Catholic church, the church started by Jesus Christ himself will never be shaken. For Jesus said “And the gates of hell will not prevail”. And it hasn’t all these years. We are still here strong as ever. It isn’t the cleverness of the bishops or popes, but the guidance of the Holy Spirit. 2,000 years with an unbroken link…

Why are you even asking us?
Who can better dig up the skeletons in Protestant closets than their adversary the Catholics? I’m just curious.
The bigger question is, why should we just blindly take the word of someone who confuses 16th century Mexico with 19th century France?
because that little mistake had nothing to do with the point that mexicans were decieved into conversion.

really?? so me saying the church was wrong in pursuing it’s desires during the crusades is attacking the church as a whole as opposed to pointing out where the church is wrong? and to say that the popes who kept mistresses and had children and put those children into positions of power within the church (it’s where we get the term nepotism for heaven’s sake) were wrong is attacking the papacy? i think you need to take a deep breath and try to think logically about your statement above.

he also was the first to sign a “treaty” with hitler when he was cardinal. he also remained silent while thousands of jews were deported. he spoke up when defending the buildings owned by the church though. there are many jews who think that if he had stood up to the deportations, he could have saved many, many more jews.

see there, i didn’t disparage any of the good things pius did, i simply pointed out where he could have done more or done better. not an attack on the papacy, but on the actions of the man in the office.

Have you got evidence of what you said in the first sentence? I have never heard of the tricks, nor that it was “quite common”.
How do you say “Pancake breakfast” in Latin?

do you even realize what Jesus’ statement means?? it is an offensive statement. He is saying if the church attempts to bust through those gates, they cannot stand against it. it is not a defensive statement as “gates” are not a weapon. so it is right to point out where the church has failed to be offensive in it’s attack on hell. one of those areas is in standing up to oppression as opposed to taking part in it or even leading it.

I enjoyed the book. He’s an excellent writer and when he’s expressing his opinion, he clearly states so.

I think this just summed it all up. And nothing else needs be said. What other Church can say that. Good Good response

When is the documentary due out?

he is also considered a top-notch journalist. for anyone who has ever studied journalism, you know the research and the ethics of reporting your research that goes into it. he did his research, he made a claim, and his research backs it up. just because it might cause some folks to think about the wrong an organization they love (and capable of doing so much good) has committed, doesn’t mean he is attacking that organization. i got to view an advanced copy of the documentary and i have read the book. both are historically accurate and do not attack the entire organization, but some of the things the organization did or allowed to happen without intervention.
