Whether one believes the Pact of Metz is factual or not, it is a fact communism, the poison on society it is, has not been condemned since Vatican II. If you believe communism is dead, then you’ll have a difficult time understanding that the wall coming down was a ploy to make us all fall asleep and become unguarded. Russia will one day prove to be the scourge of the world…but they WILL convert to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, perhaps before this country. I have complete faith in Our Lady this will be so.

***When asked if Russia will be converted to the Catholic Faith, as Our Lady of Fatima promised, through Sr. Lucia Santos, Padre says that it will be, and suddenly, to the surprise of many. But then he adds: and Russia will give American a good example of what it means to convert. And then he promises that the U.S.A. will also convert to the Catholic Faith, but he adds that the process will be slow, but eventually.

Without getting into the Vatican-Moscow agreement and Putin’s intentions, we can still say that Fatima is relevant and the rosary crusade for the conversion of Russia must grow and expand.

Remember though that not all Catholic Churches pray the Rosary. For example, you will not find one that does in Central, VA nor on the Central Coast of CA.
Hi Marina14. Please provide the source of your statement.
Thanks

Huh? Are you serious? Do you remember John Paul traveling to Poland to speak out against the government there? Do you remember him speaking out against communism, his support for Solidarity. Why do so many world leaders credit him for the retreat of communism from Eastern Europe. And the fall the wall was a ploy?? Have you ever met someone from eastern Germany or Poland? Some ploy, it liberated tens of millions of people.

John Paul put his life at risk to condemn communism and worked his entire life to bring liberty to eastern europe. To say that the Church hasn’t condemned communism is more than just wrong, its insulting to the many Catholics that risked their lives fighting communism.

Hi Mary, I agree with your statement of Fatima is relevant and Russia will be converted, only I’m pretty sure our Lady did not say that Russia would be converted to Catholic. I do some research and post back here later.

TMC, I think Mary is disagreeing with the post above hers (stmaria).
I hope I’m right:shrug:

I don’t believe Fatima is revelant at all.
I attended the New Mass for over 30 years and not once did I hear a sermon on Fatima. I have been going to the Traditional Mass for two years and I have heard a 20 minute sermon on Fatima on every anniversary of the appraition.
If the pope and the bishops would have done the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart when it was requested, we could be living in a vastly different world than we do today. But the Magisterium waited, and although it was finally accomplished in 1984, we still have the effects of atheistic communism to contend with in society, now known as secularism which is literally tearing our civilization apart at the seams. So, yes, Fatima is still relevant today because we are still experiencing the errors of Russia in our lives right now.

Outside of traditional Catholic parishes I almost never hear mention of Our Lady Of Fatima anymore. During the height of the Cold War this was one of our most popular devotions, but since the breakup of the Soviet Union how is it still relevant ?
Oh gee…how much paper do you have…China is a communist nation which has murdered some 64 million of its own…I am in contact with the Cardinal Kung Foundation.re: underground church…what a horror and honor to be Christian in china…and of course we have the pearl of the area.cuba…where thousands have died trying to reach America…and now we also have…whats it called.Venz?..‘president’ Chavez has proclaimed he will rule forever…yes Fatima is no longer needed…communism is dead…communism…a government run by maybe 2% of the population who have all the guns and media thus etc etc…Christianity is soon to be outlawed in America as a ‘hate’ cult so thats true I guess…Fatima and its message is hardly trendy…gee cant wait for spring training…am so glad the late skipper of the Yankees took a pay raise…how can any one survive on a $5 million dollar a year salary…from another franchise…all the best…etc

Kidding right? “Tell them to say the rosary”. Surely, no matter when Communist Russia is converted, Our Lady would never want us to stop that devotion. (Color me guilty, though.)

Even though the Soviet Union is no longer called that, has it reached its promised destination per Our Lady’s promise?

We tend to assume alot (I know I do). Remember when Lucia was told that she would go to Heaven but must remain on earth “some time longer”? Some time was surely a long time, wasn’t it? Let’s not assume that by reason of Russia’s name change, it’s achieved God’s Divine Plan. And based on how badly the world has changed since 1917, I’d say that a number of countries - including the USA - needs to be added to the list of nations in need of conversion and the Rosary…But I’m not God or Our Lady…It’s just my opinion.

Poor in soul, lazy about my prayers,
God help me,

A few things to point out:
  1. Just because most priests don’t talk about Fatima, doesn’t mean it isn’t relevant.
  2. The reason why the Message of Fatima is surpressed is because it is a powerful message of Hope for the Church and the world. The Devil will do anything he can to squash our hope.
Also, those who belittle Fatima need to ask themselves some serious questions:
  1. If Fatima is merely a ‘private revelation’ with no consequences or relevance for the Church and world, then why was there an unprecedented public miracle before 70,000+ people, and why did Pope John Paul II say that the Message of Fatima is “more urgent than ever”?
  2. Considering the continual moral collapse of Russia and its government’s continued signs of hostility, can one really believe that country has “converted”?

The “message” of Fatima indeed a PRIVATE REVELATION. To think otherwise is un-Catholic and smacks of superstition.

I am currently doing my Masters degree in Russian and East European Studies and, as such, have read and researched a vast amount on Putin and his regime. What I find out scares me. Unlike others on my course I always have the Fatima message at the back of my mind when I’m in class or carrying out research. In my opinion the consecration of Russia has not taken place yet, mainly due to the Vatican not wanting to disrupt relations with Moscow. Our Lady told us that Russia’s errors would spread to the whole world and that Russia would be used as a chastisement by God for our sinful ways.

Putin is determined to build his country into a superpower once more and the election results, already deemed unfair by international observers, only highlight how much power he has. Make no mistake, despite communism falling in the 1990’s it is still the same people running the show. Church attendances are tiny and abortion numbers are huge. I’m not one for conspiracy theories but I believe the third secret of Fatima prophesised a huge apostasy in our Catholic faith and I think we are seeing that now. The growing threat of Russia makes me believe that God’s chastisement may be on its way. Russia has not been consecrated to the Immmaculate Heart as we have seen no period of peace and Russia is still a corrupt, godless mess.

Fatima could not be more important today.
God Bless.

You are absolutely right! It is precisely because of Vatican/Moscow relations. Catholics who look at the hard facts and circumstances and are concerned are written off as “conspiracy theorists” but that is an ad hominem attack. It is a fact that negotiations were made prior to Vatican II with Communist Russia. Once again, Pope John Paul II insisted that Fatima is more urgent now then ever, and it “puts an obligation on the Church.” Let us pray!

The “message” of Fatima indeed a PRIVATE REVELATION. To think otherwise is un-Catholic and smacks of superstition.
You have to clarify what you mean by private revelation. If you mean that it is not Dogma or obligatory under pain of sin and damnation to believe, then yes it is a ‘private revelation.’ Otherwise, the message of Our Lady of Fatima is very public. Again, when was the last private revelation that included a public miracle witnessed by so many, and Our Lady said it would have been GREATER had not the children been kidnapped! She said “so that all may believe.” Pope John Paul II himself claimed (approx. quote) “Fatima places an obligation on the Church.” The last 6 popes have all endorsed it, Pope Benedict hasn’t said much yet, but I believe he will have to address it eventually.

Consider these quotes from Scripture:
“Do not despise prophecies. But test all things; hold fast to what is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21
“Woe to thee, Corozain! woe to thee, Bethsaida! For if in Tyre and Sidon had been worked the miracles that have been worked in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgement than for you.” Luke 13-14

The Message of Fatima has been declared “worthy of believe” and has been personally acknowledged by the last 6 popes. It is either true or false. If false, then Blessed Fransisco and Jacinta Marto, and Sr. Lucia dos Santos were liars, or at least delusional. My point is that though it may not be absolutely neccesary in the sense of an article of the Catholic Faith, it is rash to dismiss it as just another private revelation, when it was clearly addressed to the whole Church and the World.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!
Blessed Francisco Marto, pray for us!
Blessed Jacinta Marto, pray for us!
Sr. Lucia dos Santos, pray for us!

Yes I agree, that Fatima is not relevant in the OF. I too attended the NO service for many years, and never was Fatima mentioned, among other things also not mentioned.
I have been going to TLM for less than a year and It has been mentioned in detail.
That is because in the typical OF parish, there is no real concept of sin, prayer amounts to thanking God that we are all going to heaven no-matter-what, fasting is a thing of the past, and sacrifice…what’s that?
It is true, though sad to say.
The message of Fatima is just too hard a doctrine for today’s Catholics to swallow.
I am not sure I agree here. I do not find the Doctrine hard but simple. Perhaps it is the lack of Faith or misguidedness, etc., but for whatever reason, Those who want to turn blind their eyes or make deaf their ears shall succumb to judgement when the day arrives.

I can not help but wonder how many people believe or think that the chastisement our Blessed Lady warned us about was/is contributed ONLY to the Church’s consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I mean, I never see it mentioned that the laity also had/has a responsibility of praying the Rosary for Russia’s conversion and for peace.
Especially those who do not think the Pope has done the consecration and say the Popes (JP II & B 16) & Sr. Lucia have lied to us.

Like, thanks for the links, very interesting. These signs are certainly encouraging. However, I think there is a long, long way to go before the Russian people even return in great numbers to Orthodoxy never mind Catholicism - something like 85% of 18-29 year olds dont even attend Orthodox churches regulary despite Russia’s claims that Orthodoxy is reviving dramatically since communism fell.

The Moscow Patriarch Alexei II could not be more anti-Catholic if he tried and any attempt at making inroads or setting up Catholic parishes are ferciously resisted and labelled proselytism. Alexei, who was a KGB agent, is determined to recreate Moscow as the so-called Third Rome. There are only around 500,000 Catholics in Russia, and many of these are from non-Russian ethnic groups. From this number only around a quarter even go to Mass. Catholicism is seen as a foreign religion and not compatable with Russian life- under Russian law Buddhism, Islam and Judaism are even afforded a higher status than the True Faith! The country has one of the worst abortion holocausts in the world, something like 60% of all pregnancies end in abortion! There are 12 abortions for every 10 live births and its only getting worse. Its horrific!

The West has turned its attention elsewhere and in the meanwhile Putin continues to turn the clock back to Soviet times, building up a cult of personality, rigging elections, gagging the press, increasing military spending and the Russian economy is going from strength to strength. All the while apostasy, scandal and liturgical abuse sweep the Catholic world, among both the people and the clergy.

We all know that Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart will triumph in the end, as that is what She promised, but I fear there may be a lot of water still to go under the bridge before it happens.

God Bless.

I did not mean to imply that the laity have no role, or that it’s only the pope’s fault. Not at all. It is actually all of our faults for not praying enough and doing penance (myself especially) for the conversion of sinners, even an offering as small as our simple daily duty. As for Russia’s conversion, according to what Sr. Lucia has said and written, the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by the pope in union with all the world’s bishops is God’s chosen way of converting that nation. We have to all do our part by getting the message out and praying very much for the Holy Father and the bishops and for the whole Church, because it is up to us to join the Blessed Mother in prayer to soften God’s anger.

In case anyone got the wrong idea, I was asking the question rhetorically. I believe OLF is very relevant, but I know that those who agree are in a definite minority. And while I agree the Orthodox Church is schismatic, I firmly believe “Russia’s errors” are very clearly the Marxist-Leninist idealogy. Their may be some serious errors with Orthodox theology, but it’s still infinitely better than being Christ hating Communists, and at the same time we should remember how far are own nation’s morals have declined.

The rosary crusade for the conversion of Russia (and Ukraine) must continue to expand, and this is the way to circumvent some of the more contentious discussions about Ostpolitik, the Vatican-Moscow agreement, false ecumenism and so on.
