How secure are you in your Catholicness/Protestantness?

I selected “2”. I also am a convert from the Episcopal/Anglican faith and I feel much the same way you do. I was a nonpracticing Christian for 25+ years before I converted in my 50’s. I started the annulment process which is really making me challenge the Catholic faith. I am into the process for almost a year now. I am really not that enthusiastic about the Catholic faith like I once was. I think I was happier as a nonpracticing Christian/perhaps bordering agnostic. I really don’t know where I am in my spiritual journey anymore.

I was raised Episcopalian and became Anglican in my 50’ before converting to Catholicism. My Dad was Catholic also non-practicing and my Mom a non-practicing
Lutheran.
Interesting that a NPC and NPL raised an Episcopalian.

As a NP Catholic, I selected 1 as far as my security my Catholicness. If I was secure in that regard, I’d be practicing and closer to a 4. I’m closer to a 4 in my belief in a Creator and in some forms of Christianity than others. But I can’t be so certain about anything to be a 5.

Via media . I guess they met each other half way and neither wanted to convert to the other’s religion. It was a little confusing.

I can understand that. Episcopalians have been known to consider their church to be a bridge between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism.

It occurs to me that the fact that Ps have options to chose from may make the Cs look more secure in their position.

I have been known to impulsively respond to some posts but I don’t see it directly means I am insecure in my “ness”
Sometimes I perceive the original post as perhaps indicating a security level but who am I to judge?
I completely agree with that last part – and likewise, I hope that I don’t appear to be judging anyone.

Anyhow, I’m wonder if there is a like-attracts-like phenomenon. In particular, over my years on internet discussion forums, there have been approximately 1,400 times when I said to myself “Whoa, how did that thread get hundreds of responses?” but I get the impression that often it is because the people responding are no more secure in their respective identities than the thread starter.

I’m a 5, very secure in my Confessional Lutheran Christianity.😃

Always been secure, but have grown more and more so over time.

Also, as another poster said; to deny the Eucharist is to deny Christ. To deny Christ earns a punishment that is quite severe.

I’ll take the Catholic Faith every time.

I probably would have made the question “How secure are you in your Catholicness [resp. Orthodoxness, Anglicanness, Lutheranness, Presbyterianness, etc]?” except that didn’t sound to me like a good thread title.

(Note: I wouldn’t read *too *much meaning into the results of this poll, as this is pretty subjective.)
Man I’m bad at math but good at Christian orthodoxy I hope

I picked 5. I’ve never felt more secure in my faith than I have since I started attending and later officially joined the Episcopal Church.

I take it in your faith you don’t believe you are “denying the Eucharist”.

Not in the slightest. Doesn’t hurt that Episcopalians believe they’re partaking in a properly perfected Eucharist along the same lines as the Catholics 😉

Hi. I just returned to the “Non Catholic Religions” forum for the first time in many days. Retreading the above statement, I have to wonder: why impulsively if there isn’t insecurity?

  1. History shows that the Catholic faith was the first Christian faith. Just that alone shows me at least that the Catholic faith is the true faith. Although I have doubts/spiritual dryness from time to time, I will never leave the Catholic faith because I know it’s the one true faith. I am a VERY loyal person, so much that I sometimes feel like a cheerful dog in human form! 😃

How long did you wonder about it after re-reading it?🤷

Well, technically not very long – I just reread it this morning. But in a more general sense I’ve wondered for years, long before I knew you even, because all my experiences on religious discussion forums suggests to me that they are magnets for those who are insecure and über-defensive.

Admittedly, that probably applies to me more than it does to you, in as much as I choose to participate on a Catholic forum, rather than boldly stepping onto Protestant turf … PAF or what have you.

I actually came with fear and trembling :frighten:

I blame you not! I would feel much the same way about venturing onto a Protestant forum. (And some I wouldn’t venture onto at all – like I wouldn’t go onto one starting with a C.)
