How seriously should I take this?

I’m pretty confused…

When I was about 7 or 8, (I’m 13 now), my newly appointed parish priest said something to my mum about me one day being a nun, and said that I’d be the Mother Prioress for the Augustines(or Augustinians? how do you say it?) . He also kept asking my mum whether she had taken me to the Carmelite monastery nearby to have a look.
I have always had the idea that I might become a nun, and I do like these Orders, but I always feel that I’d rather do something more active and not be cloistered.

Should I take this priest’s words very seriously, as if it was a dort of “knowing” of what I was meant to do, or should I sort of take it as a guide and not focus too much on the cloistered orders, as I wish?

Thankyou in advance:thumbsup: :juggle:

littletherese3 I don’t think you have to be bound by the enthusiastic efforts of a priest trying to encourage a little girl to become a nun, or as a guide to which Order you might wish to enter, if any.

You need to do your own discerning regarding your life. I ask God to guide you to the wisest choise for your life.

Thanks Trishie.

That’s what I have been thinking and that seems to be the best way to think of it, except whenever I try to focus on things other than what he said I feel like I’m ignoring him, and because I don’t know how seriously he meant it, I don’t know whether I am ignoring something big or if they were just the beginning/stimulus for something else.😦 :hypno:

Thankyou, :angel1: God bless you

So, in the end, the dilemma’s the same.
I wonder if you could seek out that priest, who may have mellowed a little, and ask what his motives were. I really don’t think that people generally have inside information on others. If you have a call it’s from God to you. I wanted to be a Carmelite nun. My parish priest talked me out of it. I don’t know what his word was worth as he left the church a few years later. There have been times when I’ve had to forgive him all over again.

I received a letter today from a Carmelite nun who is one of my dearest friends. I mourned to her once over the phone, and kindly she replied, “You are a Carmelite though”

–so is it too late for you to become a Carmelite?

Are there any OCD’s in Australia/

Wow Trishie that’s sad. I feel sorry for you…as 1234 said, is it too late? I hope you are fine now:( . I will think about what you said and just trust my feelings a bit more…I don’t want anyone trying to persuade me to do what I shouldn’t do.
Praying for you!

littletherese,

I recall a story I heard once (a true one, it’s just that I wasn’t actually present when the event happened) of a young man who stayed after Mass one day and prayed in front of the altar.

As he was leaving, a religious order priest stopped him and gave him his card (the card of the order) and told him “I believe God is calling you to be a priest”.

The young man thanked him for the card and said “God better tell my wife!” The guy was already married (and if I recall, I think he already had a child).

Yes, we have about six in total I think Carmelite Monasteries for OCD nuns in Australia in some states.
I had the opposite experience to Trishie. A Catholic priest thought I should enter Carmel and even asked my permission to speak to the prioress about me (I was then 16!) and subsequently introduced us and I was accepted to enter at 21 (the youngest Carmel will accept applicants). God had other plans!!! I have stayed in contact with Carmel.
