How Should I Deal With Climate Change Fears?

I’m not ready to die.

Now, I realize nobody is ever ready to die. Yes, I’m not sounding really rational. Truth is, I’m pretty scared. I skipped my nightly devotion of a Rosary in favor of holding it and just finding comfort in that. Climate change scares the living daylights out of me because I don’t see a solution in sight. I can’t fathom world leaders actually doing what they’re supposed to and fixing the problems we face. What’s worse, I’m not old enough to try getting into a position of power myself and fixing it from there. I don’t want to be scared, but I don’t really see a way to not be.

I want to be a father and a husband. I want to pass on my knowledge and wisdom to others. I want to make my world a better place. Most of all, I want to live the life I should’ve been living since I was born. God deserves a saint, and I haven’t been one. I want to change that. I know God wants me to change that too. But I can’t do any of that if I’m not around.

What should a young adult like me do in the face of the culture of fear around climate change? How should I respond? How should I keep up hope? How should I live a life of heroic virtue now, in case these years are the only ones I have to live that life?

I know this is not the most level-headed of posts. If it’s better to have removed, I’ll do that. I just didn’t really know where else to go to find the catholic response to this problem I’m having.

Admittedly, the rhetoric and numbers about it can be quite scary. But you have to consider what may be within God’s will, and not knowing what that entails is where you must rely on your faith. Just feel His presence with you and know that He hears you - your prayers and your fears. Go before Christ in Adoration and spend some time being raw with Him about these fears. Maybe pray for St. Francis’s intercession for your peace on this subject and for better stewardship of the earth.

If it is within God’s will that a climate catastrophe destroy the inhabitable conditions on the earth, we all best get to receiving the sacraments and trying earnestly to live like the saints…like we should anyhow. And if you believe it is up to our world leaders to forge the changes necessary to save the planet from these perceived threats, they will need a lot of prayers and you will need to become confident in what type of person and what type of actions you think will save things, so you can help make sure the right people make it to their respective positions of power.

Frankly I don’t know how much we can do, or undo, but I don’t think it’s OK for anyone to be so lazy or apathetic or gluttonous as to use up resources carelessly or treat any of God’s creation wrecklessly, regardless of what may or may not be impending. There are little things all of us can do in our own lives to be kinder to the earth. Make smart, sustainable decisions regarding your consumption where you can, and encourage those close to you to do the same.

But to live your life so in fear over “what if’s” is a bit irrational, my friend. Take things one day, one Hail Mary at a time.

Here is the thing: Our Lord told us that this was a vale of tears. “You will hear of wars and reports of wars; see that you are not alarmed, for these things must happen, but it will not yet be the end. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be famines and earthquakes from place to place.” Matt 24:6-7

Even those who are very alarmed about climate change are not suggesting that the human race is going to be wiped out in your life time. They’re suggesting that there could be catastrophic events that will make low-lying areas uninhabitable, that will ruin some ecosystems, that could cause famines or droughts or flooding, but that they’re not suggesting that the atmosphere is going to burn off.

None of us know how long we’re going to live. Moreover, we’re not given the grace to go back and live yesterday over or the grace to live tomorrow’s unknown problems. Grace is given to us to live this moment we have right now, to look for ways to love our neighbors as ourselves, to love God right now.

Try just one decade of the Rosary. One Hail Mary, even. I guess I’d suggest you go to the Agony in the Garden, because couldn’t this problem help you to stay an hour with Him? Can you pray His prayer with him:
Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to feel sorrow and distress.
Then he said to them, “My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch with me.” He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet, not as I will, but as you will.”
When he returned to his disciples he found them asleep. He said to Peter, “So you could not keep watch with me for one hour? Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test.
The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Withdrawing a second time, he prayed again, “My Father, if it is not possible that this cup pass without my drinking it, your will be done!”
Then he returned once more and found them asleep, for they could not keep their eyes open. He left them and withdrew again and prayed a third time, saying the same thing again. Then he returned to his disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand when the Son of Man is to be handed over to sinners. Get up, let us go. Look, my betrayer is at hand.”

Matt 26:36-46

Then going out he went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. When he arrived at the place he said to them, “Pray that you may not undergo the test.”
After withdrawing about a stone’s throw from them and kneeling, he prayed, saying, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done.”
And to strengthen him an angel from heaven appeared to him.
He was in such agony and he prayed so fervently that his sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground. When he rose from prayer and returned to his disciples, he found them sleeping from grief.
He said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not undergo the test.”

Luke 22:39-46

It will be fine. Just look at the 40-50 times similar climate-related catastrophes were predicted, and were wrong.

The Earth will be fine. Humanity will be fine. You’ll be fine.

And hey, if you really believe the world will end in 12 years (now 11 years, I guess), make sure you’re spiritually ready to meet the final judgment. If what the climate alarmists predict comes true, you’ll be ready. If it doesn’t, it will do you a lot of good anyway.

None of us are getting out of this world alive. We’re all going to die. It’s what we decide to do with the time we are given. Death is just a passing thing. Love is forever.

Don’t rely on world leaders to make the right decisions. They cannot and will not, and neither can you. But with prayer, all of this is possible and much more.

Peace.

Take a deep breath and try to turn your panic into something practical. Are there any green/environmental volunteer groups near you that you could join? Are there little changes in your everyday life that you could make?

I completely understand how you feel. Looking at the bigger picture is scary to me too. Focus on your small area, around where you live, and do what you can for it. It’ll help.

We don’t actually know that the sun’s coming up in the morning or that our side of the Earth as we know it will ever see another sunrise, if you want to put it that way. But yes, we can trust in God, come what may, and looking to do God’s will is really all that matters.

FAITH is the answer to fear. If your faith is strong, your fear will fade away. A strong faith allows one to trust in God and His providence. We know that everything happens for a reason (Romans 8:28) and that everything that happens in our lives can help us to achieve our ultimate destiny – life in Heaven. Fear is from the Devil, do not let the Devil’s fear rob you of God’s peace. Put your faith and trust in God and you will be filled with His beautiful peace.

I would say the best way to deal with climate hysteria is not buy into the fear-mongering. People have been predicting that the world’s climate is going to kill everyone for the past 80 years. And each one has been wrong.

This new wave of climate fear-mongering is no different than the last wave. I can assure you the people that have said that the world’s going to end in 12 years are going to end up like all those fear mongers that predicted the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. They’re going to Fumble around with their words scratch their head and say " oh well you see I did the math wrong. You see when I said 12 years I really meant 13 years. So next year I promise that the world’s going to kill everyone"

One thing you have to understand as the people that are pushing the climate change hysteria the most have the most amount to gain from it. People can be tricked into passing legislation to put more control into the hands of regulators. Take for instance this whole new green deal AOC tried to pass. Seeing an absurd amount of things like how we have to ban eating meat in order to save the planet. Or how we have to stop Flying in order to save the planet. But then her and the same people that are pushing the climate change hysteria take a jet to fly to Puerto Rico to see Hamilton on Broadway.

The same goes for those Hollywood people that do the same exact thing. They talk on television how we need to go green and save the planet yet be go fly on their private jets to indulge in luxury and hedonism. These people are the worst kinds of hypocrites.

So again the best way to not live in fear is to not subject yourself to the fear of climate change Hysteria. Buying an electric car is no different than using a diesel car. Suddenly becoming a vegan won’t save the planet. Confessing your sins to plants won’t save the planet, it’ll just make you look like a fool.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/reli...ffered-confession-plants-what-are-we-make-it/

And even if I’m wrong in the planet does end up killing everyone, I have faith in my Lord Jesus Christ. I have faith that in his life saving grace, despite all the sins I’ve done in the past, will at least give me a spot in purgatory. if my words fall upon deaf ears and you’re still convinced that the climate is going to kill everyone in 12 years, then pray the rosary everyday, go to confession every week, wear our lady’s brown scapular, and encourage others to do the same. The promises of Jesus’ blessed mother will save you from the fires of hell.
Psalms 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the protector of my life: of whom shall I be afraid?

Everything will come to pass, even the lives of our loved ones.

These things must happen I told a priest recently, when he was upset about something within the community.

Jesus explains not to worry about tomorrow in depth.

Yes thank you and Jesus is so right .

Being humans I guess we don’t see the bigger picture as the Lord does.

God gave humans great brains. Humans are great at adaptation.

Reforesting with the right trees for the right areas will mitigate flooding. Restoring mangroves will help reduce flood risks in some coastal places. Levees can be built for others. The Dutch lead the way on these. Btw, these plants will meet those emissions targets if enough are planted and maintained and will eventually start capturing excess CO2 after 2050. There are efforts to prevent desertification in a number of places. Solar panels are being improved.

The vast majority of deaths from hurricanes are due to government corruption and incompetence. They fail to warn, they fail to transport people out, they fail to have aid ready to disperse.

Well, I’ll bet if you ask the odds-makers in Vegas about it, they’d say that betting on the sun coming up in the morning is a much, much safer bet than betting on a climate catastrophe in 12 years.

The answer to, “How will I deal with the end of the world?” has always been, “YOUR world will end before THE world does.” So then the question becomes— how do I live my life?

Out of all of history, and all of geography, God chose to put you in your particular time and place. Be the person God calls you to be, and live the life he gave you. Don’t worry about other people, whether they’re bureaucrats or fearmongers or politicians or whatever. Focus on what’s in front of you, and live your life with faith, hope, and love.

Climate alarmists seem to think the earth is made of glass, that it’s totally fragile. Four and a half billion years of existence with nearly 3.5 billion years containing some signs of life. It’s been through a lot. Yet apparently a meager 100 years of “human activity” is going to be a greater trial than the 4, 499, 999, 900 years beforehand.

Captain Prudeman, have you ever heard of the great horse manure crisis of 1894? It is a true event but also an allegory for the wonder of humanities genius in overcoming crisis. Give it a read.
