How do I prepare myself for weekday mass? I want to give and get the most out of it I can, what should I do before Mass to prepare for it?

My suggestion is the same as preparation for Sunday Mass; read the readings before you get to church. Then, listen to them as they are proclaimed (as opposed to reading them as they are being proclaimed).

Getting to know the liturgy and the origin of different prayers, etc., as well as Scripture, makes any Mass more meaningful to me. I encourage people to become very familiar with the Holy Mass. There are some wonderful resourses - books and audio tapes on the Holy Mass, that can help you appreciate our faith all the more!

One priest suggested that we try to attend the next Mass as if it would be our LAST Mass. Cherish each movement and ritual. I go to Mass daily and feel quite empty if I miss a day but I had a powerful experience last Thanksgiving. My daughter came home from college with a new friend from Hong Kong who was completely un-churched, said that she was an athiest because she knew NOTHING of God or religion in her culture. She was the product of the God-less state of communism there. She was an “only child”, of course!

We brought this lovely Chinese girl with us to Mass on Thanksgiving and, for me, it was an incredible experience. Each word, each ritual, each prayer and gesture was so rich and so deeply profound. I felt so grateful for our Catholic faith and its tradition!! I fell more in love with our incredible Catholic church! I wept through most of the Mass as if it were my FIRST Mass and prayed for our new friend to be touched in some way to believe!!

Since I always go to early morning Mass, I always try to say my Rosary at night and offer it as part of my preparation for the next mornings Mass. Before I begin the Rosary I take time to go over the readings of the following day. Like an individual Lectio Divina! So I start my preparation for Mass the night before along with my thanksgiving for that days Mass. As the Canticle of Simeon says "My eyes have seen the salvation prepared for all nations, the light to enlighten the gentiles and give glory to Israel your people."

So I suggest that you begin your preparation the night before with prayer, thanksgiving, offering and repentance.

Another piece of advice I received through a book called THE HOLY MASS - MYSTERY OF OUR FAITH reads:

"It is impossible that all the mystery should work its effects at once. Only if you meditate on one aspect of the Holy Mass that has come to your mind for say over two weeks and then attempt to let it come alive during Mass, adding another aspect now and again, you will be able to experience the sacrifice of the Mass deeply enough - under the guidance of Our Lady, continually imploring her assistance."
Beautiful advice.

Can you share with us the author and publisher of this book so that we can learn more, too, please?

Would love to be able to help but it is a 100 page book with nothing more than a title!!
Filles with beautiful meditations and pictures but no publisher is mentioned. It may have been a private project by someone.
There is a name of a Priest called Fr. F.R. Recter. Nothing more.
Try the net for a search on the title and see what you come up with.
