How should we deal with Catholics who are badly mistaken about matters of Catholic tradition?

I was received Easter Vigil Mass 2016.
Ok, that is very recent.
I think at this stage, the Catholic Faith is your home, your refuge from the world and the devil (and your help against the flesh). Adherence to the Faith, fidelity, commitment - bring you closer to God and quickly along the path to heaven.
You have duties to God, but Holy Church teaches and helps you fulfill them.
There’s really not much more than that.
Except … you’ll want and need to go deeper, to become closer to Jesus as He has lived for 2000 years in (and As) his Body the Church.
So, there’s a long history, and even just recent history since Vatican II is getting longer and more difficult to absorb.
Is it necessary to know all of these things?
No, absolutely not.
A simple faith, a pure devotion and honor to God and His Saints - reception of the Sacraments.
That’s it.

This post is not about that.

It’s a different sot of thing.

You and I have no disagreement there, @Bill_B_NY.

So, you’re problem is people not sticking to the essentials of the Faith and going off the reservation into left field?

I agree with you, @(name removed by moderator).

I’m the last person that should throw stones. I just try to be a good son of the Church by living my Faith and defending the Church against all comers.

Crucifixion is focus of Mass, not Last Supper. That’s why Priest faces Crucifix in EF.

Just in a friendly and supportive comment, Cajun – yes, stay with what is important. However, you’re discussing various things here on CAF for some reason. You’re a new Catholic. Stay with the Faith and Deepen it. If you know what you should do, then do it. Nobody is telling you to do otherwise. But you don’t have to defend yourself here then. You’re not under attack.

@Bill_B_NY:

Cajun’s a born and bred Louisiana Catholic who’s SERIOUS about her Faith.

Not a newbie in any way, shape or form.

It’s a difficult issue. The Church permits us to choose the EF. To do so, we go through a decision process. There is, in any rational decision, a comparison. We determine which rite to participate in. We are permitted to have reasons for that.

If I’m understanding @Bill_B_NY, @(name removed by moderator)

The problem he’s trying to address here is that he sees people going off the rails from Catholic teaching.

Yes, that’s the more obvious and direct point. We have statistics about Catholics in America, and there are problems.
I was actually going in a slightly different direction, as to the root causes of lack of faith among rank and file Catholics. But most importantly, how to address that conflict successfully.

You’re speaking in generalities and theoretically. At a theological level. But there is a big difference at the local, real level. How a Mass is offered. It’s not something you can find in official Vatican documents. You have to be there.

Both are equally valid since both involve the consecration of Eucharist.

Good analogy I heard is both EF and OF are equally valid in sense they both are perfect diamonds but just as with diamonds and how the setting can affect how much they sparkle, the EF setting makes the perfect valid Mass sparkle the most.

@Bill_B_NY,

The forms of Mass and how Mass is celebrated isn’t the issue. The issue is that Catholics are ill catechized and their Faith is being subverted by the secular world. IMO

I do not like being in a position of trying to convince a fellow Catholic that there is something wrong or that they have to think about problems that are not their concern.
That’s what we have here.
You’re happy with what you have. You are faithful. You have beliefs. There’s not much more to it.
I’m trying to speak to people who see things differently than you do, as we are permitted to do by Holy Mother Church.
