The moderators actually frown on us giving opinions on each others’ characters/personalities etc. so my question is rhetorical … But in any case, what is truly needed and will help is prayer.

Basically, at work while my boss was out of the office, I went over her head to tell her immediate supervisor that part of the reason why I am treated around the office the way I am and have the reputation I do is … because I am a pro-life Catholic. Yes, I came right out and said it, crystal clear.

I’ve heard that when dealing with bullies, it can actually make it worse to go and tell someone in authority.

That said, I’ve reached my limit.

It’s been hinted at that I’m going to receive a less-than-stellar performance review, and that I may be asked as one of my “objectives” to “document my errors.” Personally, my reaction was to see this as punitive, as singling me out from the others in my office whose errors are overlooked, smiled at, and mildly joked about in e-mail. My boss’s supervisor as of today claims that this “error tracking” will not be held against me in any performance reviews.

I’ve already been walking around telling friends and family for at least a year that I’m afraid I could be fired any day. And when recent layoffs hit my company, I actually was tempted to envy those being laid off, because at least they’d be assured severance pay and an unemployment check. Funny thing, they didn’t lay me off with all the others, so I can’t be as incompetent as some would like to have it appear. I think it’s a matter of someone liking to hold a threat over my head …

I’ve already started looking for a new position at monster.com, so far not finding anything.

Tomorrow I’m scheduled to go on a week’s vacation. Who knows what I’ll be facing when I return home and go to work the following Monday?

Any prayers you can send my way will be Greatly Appreciated.

Oh man, do I know how you feel…I’ll keep you in my prayers, Phoenix. I’ve had some jobs that, ugh 😦 I don’t even want to think about it. Prayers coming your way…:hug3:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

I cannot say what is the case where you work, but I have been a supervisor and have talked with others in that position. In my experience error tracking and poor reviews - especially with details of “errors”, is frequently a way to put in order information to defend any future termination action. I do not know what your work is like, but it is prudent business practice to document reasons for firing someone - especially if you can get them to sign it, or even to write it. It takes the wind out of any wrongful termination argument.

I’ll keep you in my prayers.

I don’t know of any way they can force you to document your own errors. Do you mean force you to sign a paper where they have documented it? In that case, simply make sure the paper has a notice such as “By signing this I am not agreeing to it but rather acknowledging that I have read it”

Ask your HR to schedule a time to view your employee file. Bring a notebook and take notes. You can also photocopy anything you want. The HR should get back to you quickly and should be present while you are viewing the file.

Everytime you sense harrassment or discimination, go to HR and make an employee statement. If they balk at this, make your own statement, sign it and give them a copy to place in your file.

Might I add 😊 keep all your copies/originals at home. I accidentally left my notebook at work in my locker and the next day it was gone.

When someone is deliberately breaking rules, especially management, they are usually watching you much more than you suspect and are trying to stay ahead in the game. Their loss is greater than yours. If you are terminated and can prove the charges were discriminatory or false, you can get $$ and they might get fined, too.

If you feel the need to go to the next step up, do so in writing. Meeting face to face can get emotional and it’s no guarantee the other person will interpret things correctly. If the supervisor is planning to terminate you, no doubt ths next-up you complained to already knows this. Your supervisor got to plant his/her seeds first, then you came along to disagree. Who do you think will be believed?

“Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Wounds of Our Lord Jesus Christ to heal those of our souls.”
“My Jesus, pardon and mercy, through the merits of Thy Holy Wounds.”

At the begining of this year my husband was fired out of no where, he never saw it comming. When he came home, his face looked like someone had died:( . My reaction to the news:extrahappy: :bounce: :extrahappy: , because he was miserable there and the atmosphere was disrespectful, hostile and coworkers partied together with supervisors:rolleyes: etc. Not a place for a practicing catholic, that did not join the after-work activities. I did not mind cutting back “on many things”, for we wanted to learn to live on consumming less, and wanting less. He later found his dream job, my hubby loves cigars and now he works at a huge cigar store. He works with very mature and respectful people, that have received him like a family member. He took a pay cut, but he now is sooo happy and loves going to work. Instead of complaints, he now comes home with many stories of all the interesting people he meets. So who knows what the Good Lord has in store for you…I’m sure something good and exciting. Happy hunting:thumbsup:

Looks like prejudice is alive and working well, I myself experienced this, kept my own council and played them at their own game by being so cooperative in everything they asked that i ended up getting them on side and had a good working rapport with them, and one conversation, revealed that they were scared of my beliefs, only because they didn’t understand. will pray for you god bless :gopray2:

Dear
Mary ann R, SoCalRob, hasikelee, marca37, Galilea, and jnnywren:

Thank you and God bless you for your prayers, encouragement, insight, and support.

What I am seeing so far on this thread is just how small they’re making me feel at work … contrast the negativity in my thread title with the bigger picture of God’s Providence and loving plans, as well as the justice that should be, that I am seeing in your posts.

You will all be especially remembered in my prayers.

Nothing stupid about what you did. You can’t turn you faith off when you are at work.

You are in my prayers for continued courage; courage to defend the faith.

For a better relationship with your coworkers. And if it is His will a new job.

Remember, His smile is always upon you.

phoenix:

Just saw your post. What a cruddy thing to be happening to you! That’s our lovely world for you. I will be keeping you in daily prayer. You, keep up the good work!!🙂

The Phoenix, I’m sorry things are so difficult. I know what it’s like to be the “bad one” at work–it’s a hard spot to be in.

I’ll be praying for you, that your vacation will be a time of peace and that a better job will come your way!

Phoenix -
Be careful what you wish for - trying to get fired is usually harder than not doing so ! But you don’t know what type of severance packages those layoff-ers are getting. Not always such a sweet deal - and the bad job market makes any unemployment seem less sweet. But we’ve all been there - really wanting out of a bad situation.

So, please, God, help Phoenix to make the right decisions with his job career. Give him the armor he needs to continue standing tall as a pro-life Catholic, for they surely are the ones discriminated against.

And, St. Anthony, finder of lost things - please help Phoenix FIND a better job soon, please. By the Grace of God in Heaven, through Our Lady’s intercession and in the name of Jesus Christ the Son of God. Amen.

Prayers are definitely coming your way! Being a Christian of any type can be rough at the work place. :-\

I’ll pray for the best.

Praying for you. It is hard to go to work every day when you know you are facing such things. Praying that things get better at your job or you find better employment.

**You did the right thing! You stood up for life in the face of being fired! WOW! I’m proud of you!

Father, you know the need here.
We beg of you to guide our prayer partner
in the direction of your will.
Give him the strength to continue
to stand up for life!
Give him the wisdom to speak with others
and help to change their view on this issue.
Thank you for providing us with such a
wonderful prayer partner.
AMEN**

Dear
**Prayerjohn, rydm39, mom4truth, Baptista, aurora77, Conservative, RodneyJ, steamboat, ** and pyropam:

Thank you all so much for the kindness of your prayers. I will add each of your names to the list of those I replied to in my last post, and take the list with me to Perpetual Adoration tonight so that I can pray for you all there.

Two things to clear up:
  1. I am female … please see another thread I recently started called “Godmother Jitters.” :o
  2. I really do not think I can take much credit for “bravery” at work. I happen to be a naive, trusting person born without social skills or awareness who, when people treat me friendly and as if I belong, and then start voicing their opinions on politics and religion, I (mistakenly it turns out) think it’s safe to let my guard down and also voice my own beliefs, feeling that fair is fair and we all should respect each other, right?
In any case, once my beliefs are known, I do continue to hold those beliefs and hopefully live them, as well as live in such a way as to be a good example … though being human, of course I fall short, like when it comes to emotions / getting nervous and then not communicating at my best.

Tomorrow I go back into the lion’s den. Amazingly enough, at least by doing a search I was able to find a time and date-stamped post that I made here at the Catholic Answers Forum where I refer to a dream that someone at work had about me regarding the pro-life issue. While I did not describe the dream in detail in the post and of course used no real names least of all my own, I still remember the dream as told to me in vivid detail, and to my mind knowing the date on which that occurred might come in useful … though of course I expect the dreamer and associated people to deny it.

All your prayers continue to be appreciated. Thanks again! 🙂

You did exactly what you are supposed to do. Congratulations! If you find another job, or if you don’t, you have something more important. If it happened to me I’d interpret it as a test. You passed. Praying you find the right job.:gopray2:
