How the sexual toxicity of the 1960s has harmed the Church

Ed, sometimes you make it sound as though you were the only person there. You weren’t. There were a lot of us around through the 60’s and 70’s. And I know you won’t believe this, because you are so heavily invested in this worldview of yours, but: not everything that happens is the result of some huge conspiracy to destroy your 1950s world. Society changes. Culture changes. Heck, throughout history people have lamented the “decline” in their cultures. Probably the only ones who didn’t were Adam and Eve before the fall. It’s one of the few things that don’t change.

Not everyone wants to live in Mayfield.

Does ‘we’ include all the women who aspired to a nice kitchen, a fridge, a new vacuum cleaner, housework, a meal ready for the master of the house when he got home from a hard day at the office?
So, maybe explain what is wrong with a nice kitchen, a refrigerator to keep your food in so you can feed the people you love the most, a vacuum to keep your floors clean so your loved ones don’t suffer from allergies, and what is wrong with planning meals and cooking for your husband and children.
I am just wondering because that is what many women, mothers and wives, are called to do. It may not be a high and exalted purpose but it is a purpose, a godly purpose because Jesus also served and as Catholics we are called to serve and who better to serve than those you love. Isn’t that what being a family is all about?

IMHO we need to stop following the example of society and stop belittling the home and family.
each one of us, regardless of the chromosomes we possess, has an innate right to choose our own course. Furthermore, we live in free societies,
This is correct. God gave us all free will to make our own choices. I think part of what I am seeing here and in the other conversation regarding Luther, is, and I am just going by your name, that you are seeing things through the eyes of an atheist, with the belief that you have no one to answer to at the end of your life but as Catholics who believe in God and believe we are to avoid the near occasion of sin and that those sins have consequences, see things differently because we know we do have someone to answer to at the end of our life.

So, when we look at the 60’s, it isn’t just about changes and choices but it is introducing sin as okay, just another choice but the things that happened were not just another choice but instead a culture that said wrong is okay, evil is good.

Nothing changes by itself. Only people can and do change things. Please read the description for the following book. It’s not just me.
  1. Just because it’s published in a book doesn’t make it true.
  2. Do you get a commission on this book? You sure do push it.

I think the real question now is… how far will this all go? If thirty years ago, you never dreamed we would be here… where will we be in thirty more years.

Debauchery is nothing new though. If you watch some historical fiction, you’ll see there were times in the past where things got pretty crazy. S&G wasn’t the only seedy city. Even the Victorians had. Um “fun houses.” Will there be something new though? I can’t imagine if things really get crazy, there won’t be a “correction.”

It’s up to each individual to not participate in craziness. To observe it to help instruct others but to avoid it also. A healthy society does not come from craziness.

I think every generation has regarded via moderna as a reaction to the old ways as fixing the perceived problems of the past only to fall into the trap of inventing new ones.

The 1960s were no different than the the than the 1660s and the 1770s. In all these cases a large faction within society no longer bought into the notion that traditional authority should just be obeyed. There’s always a throw the baby out with the bathwater mentality in any revolution.
In your opinion, what was “baby” and what was “bath water”? Specifically, what sexual activities liberated in the '60s were “bath water”? Fornication? Adultery? Masturbation? Pedophilia?
But the status quo needing shaking up …
Please elaborate. What proscribed sexual activities needed “shaking up”?
There were pretty significant reforms at Trent. It wasnt called the counter Reformation for nothing. And it was most certainly a response to the Reformation.
Trenching up Trent does not help. Trent did not change the moral teachings of the Catholic Church one iota.

It’s great if a father wants to do that. I have no objection to any man wanting a nice fridge and an efficient vacuum cleaner and to be able to cook a nice meal for his wife when she gets home from work.

Oh, sorry. You were expecting the WOMEN to do all that. My apologies. There’s something wrong with the forum. It keeps sending me back to the sixties.

reduce and eliminate its sources, including: sex outside of marriage including fornication, cohabitation, adultery, homosexual acts, and artificial contraception which enables the toxicity
Amen and I would add, pornography.

It is as high and exalted a purpose as any career. More so, in fact. Did Mary have any other career than that of full time Mother of God? What a timeless model she is! Sancta Maria, Mater Dei!

I’m glad you feel that way, sir, because that seems to be the “wave of the future” but then
all that.
is just mindless, work that doesn’t matter any way. Right? It is just home and family.?

Those in the military had other plans. The testing of new or modified weapon systems under combat conditions.
Whoa right there, Ed. You have specifically said that the reason you (meaning the US in this case) went into war in Vietnam was to prevent S.E. Asia falling under Communism. Period.

I have asked you how that went, since you lost that war. How is S.E Asia these days? Looking good to me. There isn’t even a USSR any more. Your young men died for no reason. The reason being to prevent the domino effect. Which never happened. OK…easy for me to say in retrospect (although I also said it at the time). But you? You were wrong. In retrospect.

Now the best thing you could do, in respect to those thousands of Americans who died, and the millions of Vietnamese and Loatians and Cambodians who were killed, would be to admit that in retrospect, it was a tragedy. One born from what has proved to be a false premise.

Yet you slide and slip now. You avoid admitting that it was a tragedy based on a political belief shown to be desperately wrong. And now you suggest that tens of thousands of US men were sent to their death and millions of S.E.Asians were napalmed and blown to bits so that the US could ‘test new or modified weapons under combat conditions’.

Well done, Ed. That’s deserving of some sort of award. You deserve it. Congratulations.

Sorry, Magda. I’m missing whatever point it is you thought you were making.

" [2354] Pornography consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials."

The Catechism of the Catholic Church. 'Nuff said.
