How to approach my crunchy neighbor with a problem?

I have a question for those crunchy people out there. My neighbor does not believe in picking after her dog because it is “natural”. I don’t have a problem with this if it was in her yard, but she lets her dog out in the front and the dog does it’s business in my yard.

Otherwise we have a good relationship, so I want to be carefull how I approach her. She is definitely on the crunchy side and that was the basis of our last conversation, so I think I need to approach it from that standpoint. I am almost to the point that I want to start picking it up and throwing on her front porch, but I figure I should try talking to her again first.

Gently remind her that her policy is great for her yard but as to your yard she has a responsibility to clean up after her dog just as she would if she took him to a public park or any area not owned by her. Also it’s a health hazard and could cause you a problem. :eek:

We have the same problem with our neighbor. It took 1 time of my DH nicely picking it up and throwing it into their yard and problem was solved. We don’t talk to them much and didn’t about the dog mess because they are JW and try to convert us, or send their JW friends over to try 🤷
 
Sorry, didn’t mean it really…just making a flippant joke.

Whether or not she thinks it’s natural, she and her dog have no right to leave unwelcome “presents” in your yard. She can remove them to her yard to be as natural as she wishes. She is imposing her beliefs on you. It’s disgusting.

Do you have kids? I sure would be irate if she’s leaving dog poops in my yard and my kids play in my yard.

Is there a local ordinance to back you up? Maybe tour town has pooper scooper laws. She might be breaking the law.
 
With all due respect…

This is not a crunchy versus non-crunchy issue. (I wouldn’t call myself crunchy, by the way.) This is either a crazy person or an extremely inconsiderate person. Politeness is often not useful with either type.

I’m not sure there is an easy answer here. Do you live in a community with laws about this sort of thing? What about any neighbor on the other side of her?

If she doesn’t respond to, “Can you please pick up after your dog?” then you may need to appeal to a higher authority.

I’m pretty sure that she won’t pick up after her dog in a the public park. And I know she doesn’t when she takes her dog for a walk.

Has anyone used Critter Ridder to deter animals from their yard? It looks like it has all natural products…Various Peppers and oils.
 
yeah I don’t see what this has to do with being crunchy…can’t you just ask her to please not let the dog poop in your yard?? I think it’s awfully rude of her to let her dog do this.

It is crunchy because she is crunchy and her excuse for this behavior is that it is “natural”. Isn’t doing things the natural way crunchy or have missed the boat on that one?
 
Yes, but even those who’ve historically used “natural fertilizer” have generally moved it to a better location.

She’s misusing her “crunchiness” to excuse rude behavior. And it’s probably illegal too.
 
Build a catapult. Load with dog poop. Vault it back into their yard. 😛
 
feeling a bit evil today, you might tell her bathrooms and sewers in general are not natural and you have decided to build an outhouse at the property line for your family.

That is pretty much illegal just about everywhere I know. Not to mention rude, inconsiderate, and a health hazard.

How can they possibly walk in their yard? Mow the grass?

What happens if doggie has an accident inside? Afterall, it’s ‘natural’…(gag me).

Can you get your city to write her an official letter reminding her of policies? She would never have to know it came from you if it talks about “all spaces other than your personal yard”…
 
Or even better: Sitting on toilets and flushing is not natural behavior, and killing trees for toilet paper is wasteful. So don’t be surprised if you see my children relieving themselves on your lawn and using leaves from your trees to wipe! 👍 Plus, their waste is natural and biodegradeable, so I am sure you won’t mind!
 
Forget natural…dog poop is full of germs and parasites! It cannot be used as fertilizer.

I had the same problem with an obnoxious neighbor (we moved by the way). I was seriously considering putting out chili peppers (but was afraid I’'d hurt the dog…so I didn’t)

Tell her point blank that you do not want dog poop in your yard. If she continues, I would make an anonymous call complain,

Also, i would bill her for any shoe cleaning you would need to do.

Rude, inconsiderate, dangerous, irresponsible…it’s all pretty much been said.

I cannot STAND when people don’t pick up after their dogs, especially in public areas where kids play. And since I have a dog myself, I always get “the stare” from other people out walking because there is so much unpicked up poop that they assume that I must be one of those irresponsible dog owners.:mad:**

**As for your neighbor, if she wants to do something “crunchy” with her dog’s poop, have her dig a pit and bury it. That way it isn’t going into the landfills and she doesn’t have to waste any bags etc to get it there. I know they actually sold a kit for that when I was investigating my options several years ago…think it came with some sort of enzymes or good bacteria or something to help it breakdown faster…not sure.

But that’s not the point. The point is that there is tons of dog poop near you and in your own yard. I don’t know your neighbor so I can’t advise you on how to approach her… maybe an anonymous call to the authorities would be easier.

I know here in my city you can’t even leave your poop lying around in your own yard. If a neighbor complains you can get a fine.

We have our dog go on a special gravel area on the side of our house (farthest away from our neighbor’s windows and outside deck) and try to keep it clean. It’s what good neighbors do.
