Hello,
I was raised Catholic, but once I turned 12 my family didn’t take me to church anymore. I didn’t really learn that much from my parents (church related or otherwise) because they were abusive, and I moved out right after graduating high school. I became engaged at 21 and my husband and I didn’t have a clue on how to have a wedding or what to do as we had no one to help us (his father is out of town except for a few weeks a year, also my husband isn’t religious). We got married by the state when we were 22. I’m now almost 27, and we’re going to be having our 5 year anniversary this year.
Now I’m reconnecting with my extended family (all Catholics) and I’ve started attending mass again recently. I am remembering all the things I was taught at the CCD classes I went to, and I want to continue doing the things I should be doing for rekindling my faith.
I think I read that I can have my marriage blessed and recognized by the Church, is that true? If it’s true how do I go about having that done?
Since I haven’t been to Confession in a long time, should I schedule a time and bring a long list with me? What if I forget something?
Are there any other suggestions for a person in my situation? If so I’d love to hear it!
Sorry if anything doesn’t make sense, I’d be happy to clarify.
Thanks!
