Benny Hinn always seemed like he was big into the “health and wealth gospel” as well. I haven’t watched any of his television shows since my Protestant days though so maybe he has changed?
Let there be no doubt. Benny Hinn is as big into the health and wealth gospel as you can get. He hasn’t changed.

Well that is sad to hear. He is one of the more extreme proponents of the “health and wealth gospel”, right?

I guess. Some people love 'em, like my grandpa. Others can’t stand him. He focuses more on healing I think. Kenneth Hagin and Kenneth Copeland are the most well known. Others include Creflo Dollar, Bishop Eddie Long (in the news recently), Joyce Meyer, and Paula White, and just about anyone seen on Trinity Broadcasting Network.

Joyce Meyer’s preaching is influenced by it, but it seems to be a softer form of it. She also seems to be the most financially credible ministry, seen by her membership in the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability. I have heard troubling accusations made against the other ministries.

Hey everyone. Have any of you on here heard of the “Health and Wealth Gospel” movement? If you haven’t, here is an article on Wikipedia about it:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosperity_theology

Anyway, I was just wondering, how does one counteract this false doctrine?
Foolishness! Secularism mixed with Christianity. It is all watered down. It is like asking for a Screw Driver and more than half of it is watered down with water. A rip off!

Why go for Spam when one can have the real ham…👍

… With prayer and fasting.

Great, I was not aware about it… Thanks for sharing this like…

I was out of town a few years back when I saw one of those guys who is not on my local cable channels. It was like watching a house burn down, something horrible to see, but I was watching anyway.

He shamelessly begged for money with promises that God would multiply the results The whole thing was sickening.

I don’t know, but I suspect that the people mailing in money are those who can least afford to be taken in. They are likely people who are in desperation, those who need a real miracle. The message seemed be one that blessings and miracles are for sale, so get your last dollar to the TV preacher now. Sure, they tout success stories, but I would be afraid, be very afraid, of those being less than full disclosure.

My suggestion is that Protestants who are donating money should only give where they can touch the ministry. After all, I doubt many TV preachers are going to come to their house at night to sit with them when they are sick. Yet, those are the preachers with the expensive suits, the Gulfstream jets, and the mansions. The Salvation Army minister who will be there when a disaster hits may be barely making ends meet, but he will show up every time you need him.

I got through most of the book, ‘Christianity in Crisis’, not realizing the solid foundation in terms of the Creed other various Evangelical communities do indeed fall on. I was also very surprised at how far off the foundation is from true Christianity in the beliefs of Hagin and his followers.

I asked my daughter if she and her mother-in-law would be interested in reading this book as well because it points out fallacies of Copeland. But she said she did not want to be involved with any disputes. I then replied to her to be aware of those who manipulate Scripture, using it other than what it is intended to bring us to a new life in Christ and the Cross…she complied.

Well, just because a particular denomination agrees with the Nicene or Apostles Creed does not mean that they are doctrinally correct. It could mean that they are doctrinally correct on some issues but more than likely they are not correct on all issues as the Catholic Church is. Oh and just so I make it clear before anyone misinterprets me, the Catholic Church is not a denomination.

Emphasize those references and footnotes in the back of the book. H&W people try to deny it, but there it is, in all its glory.

Well…I saw the Apostles Creed and Nicene Creed in the book that Protestants use.

It is interesting this thread came back…I really was tempted the other day to give to the book to the mother.

Well, my kids are moving out of the house, blessed with great work out of state and they are driving through alot of storms out here in NW. They had to go for training,

My daughter said they’d leave in morning…it was bad weather…tried to reach her…went to work…then I saw on news that so many roads were closed in the state they are returning back to mother in law’s house to get their belongings.

I was concerned about the mother in law and how they did with 100 mph winds. And then asked about my daughter, and she began rebuking me about not having faith in God and having negative thoughts. I told her I was just calling to get information and was concerned as I couldn’t reach her. She began rebuking me even stronger, and I apologized and got off the phone. I was shook up…that is my kid.

Yes, I was shaken for quite a while but in the meantime, seeing my son in law the weekend before…some how I had this sense he will become Catholic some day and my daughter and I are having our relationship renewed…

I wanted to mail that book, but then I felt I should just be an adult…this happens all the time among in laws, and just pray for her…already another relative told me…the mother in law decided to stay with her instead of at our house, that she spent the entire evening talking about positive thinking…

I will keep the book, look at the footnotes but because this is family, I think I will have to especially look at the Cross and not get insecure like that again. But the behavior is not looking too healthy either, so put it in perspective.

It’s a shame family members can be so self-righteous and push away people all in the name of thier spiritual superiority.
Prayers for you.

This behavior would concern me as well. Being around many people who believe in positive confession, I can tell you that most do not rebuke mothers for expressing concern for their child. That is definitely a warning sign that something is terribly wrong.

I cannot say one single thing from my source of faith. She always takes over the conversation…but then found out my relative experienced it…

I was sitting at the family gathering…and said some dry … and quiet remark to my daughter, tired after making a big dinner for everyone…and the mother got up and stood beside her…the mother gave me a book to read when I was first getting to know her…and towards the end it was telling its readers how the Catholic Church lies…

So…we get a little edgy some times with this continual digs about being Catholic…

Thanks, Itwin…

Right, Nicea…but they already have our number…and are totally closed to hearing anything…anything…conversations are so controlled about religion…so when I come in I have to take the passive position.

I just read something somewhere of what to expect when marrying into a devout Christian, but non-Catholic family…and the great divisions and inability to pray together other than Lord bless us and our food.

In Christ, there is no justification for this insane division…this is the evil side of many denominations…outside of licit and complementary ecclesial communities.

I came down for a quick visit to exchange Christmas gifts…they asked about my work overseas…and I said I worked with the Italian missionaries (Catholic), the best in the world…not realizing the impact, and the mother turned to me shaking her head and looking at her son…

I am beginning to see this anti-Catholicism in this particular setting as a spiritual sickness.

Prayer, fasting and penance.

Kathleen: This will make you nothing but stronger and wiser! Most Catholics who actually know something about the Faith these days are the bullseye for the darts & arrows launched even from those with who “love” them. We all are on the defensive. Hang tough! Your crown in heaven will be glorious! One saint said she’d give her eye teeth to live in this time and day - The Little Flower maybe???

PS every piece of TRUTH you mention to people such as these, lies in their memory banks latent until the Holy Spirit uses as He will, latent spiritual land mines so to speak, they go off at a later date. I’ve heard it soooo many times. Something someone heard comes back to make them think & be convicted about.

The soul is made of truth…and when truth touches the soul, it stays…and grows…until the recipient can face it…

I just can’t say anything…but then alot of times we don’t know the presence of Christ we do carry…and some times we are the lance…as Fr Mitch Pacwa said one time to me…the lance to pierce the infection so it can be emptied…

Thanks, Pepband Mom…
