How to counter the LGBT/leftist onslaught?

I think we should live (more or less) separately from the larger culture, have big families like we’re supposed to, raise our kids with the faith no matter what the cost, and then wait for the larger culture to trap itself in its own illogic (bonus points if you know where that line comes from). “The way of the wicked shall perish.” (Psalm 1:6.)

I’m not gonna discuss this topic in general coz it’s neither my place. nor my intention.

However, this imediately caught my eye:

Maybe they got some reason to call you that huh?
Thanks for contributing! Just to clear the air and dispel any potential misunderstandings, I want to clarify: Are you saying that if Catholics insist in calling the open practice of homosexuality by the names of “sodomy” and “sexual dysfunction”, then the Left legitimately has reason to condemn our stance?

It seems that you’re quite sympathetic of the LGBT crowd. I was formerly a staunch LGBT supporter, so I can relate.

However, when orthodox Catholics call the homosexual lifestyle by its right name, we do not aim to denigrate the people who practice it. Sodomy is not an insult or swearword. It is the name of the sin which consists in engaging in male/male or female/female sexual acts, deliberately transgressing against the will of God solely for the sake of one’s own gratification. Sexual dysfunction is, similarly, not a pejorative term. It simply means that some persons may suffer from a disability (i.e., a lack or loss of proper function) in the specific area of sexuality, in the same way that persons with bipolar disorder, OCD, or schizophrenia suffer from a disability in the areas of affective and cognitive functioning.

I may rightly say that a person who embezzles funds from a company is engaging in fraud. That doesn’t mean that I hate them; simply that they’re doing something wrong. If I say that practicing homosexuals engage in sodomy, the same principle applies. Whether they’re there entirely out of personal perversion, or they got there through an unattended sexual dysfunction, by choosing to reject God’s plan for human sexuality and for them in particular they are incurring in error. When I was pro-gay, I wished for homosexuals to know peace and joy, and I still do today. The difference is that I now know that only way to experience true peace and joy – and not some cheap substitute like pleasure or emotional gratification – is to turn away from one’s sin and seek to become perfected in true, everlasting love through holiness.

By promoting the disordered homosexual lifestyle, then, the LGBT lobby is doing nothing for homosexuals themselves. That’s why I now need to militate against those people, for whom I want nothing but the greater good.

I hear you - that’s a lot of the Church in my area.

In a parish of 150-200 I can find probably 10 people that are active and willing to do something. So I’m trying to pull them together and do something. Here we have to work past the liberals that are inside the Church first.

Praying - excellent
Vote - only helps if they vote properly - and from what I have found even some of the clergy don’t do this in our area
Silent Witness - you must live it before you can preach it, but “lifestyle evangelism approach” has turned the Great Commission in to the Great Omission for most Catholics.
Well, I’m happy I’m not just “a voice crying in the wilderness”, haha! (Though I guess it’s kinda wrong that I even dare to compare silly little me with John the Baptist :p)

Here’s the issue for me: Praying, voting, and silent witness are as essential to our Christian life as breathing, eating, and sleeping are to our life as organisms. So when somebody says, “Well here’s the plan: You pray, vote, and bear silent witness,” to my ears it rings like, “Here’s what I propose to do with my life: I’m going to breathe, eat, and sleep a lot.” And people who think that way are all like, “Yeh, I’m doin’ me Christian duty :D”, and I’m like, 😦 .

I’m super happy to hear, though, that you’re trying to rally people near you and actually do something! So what are the initiatives that you guys want to pursue?

I don’t think we can do anything about the secular left. In Biblical times, the Gospel was new; now, it has been known and rejected, and seen as something that has been tried and found wanting. It is impossible for Western culture to turn back to Jesus (see Hebrews 6:4-8). We can no more stop the left than we can stop a tsunami. The question is, how do we deal with the fact that our culture is dying?
I think we should live (more or less) separately from the larger culture, have big families like we’re supposed to, raise our kids with the faith no matter what the cost, and then wait for the larger culture to trap itself in its own illogic (bonus points if you know where that line comes from). “The way of the wicked shall perish.” (Psalm 1:6.)
I cheated and googled, but I couldn’t figure out where that quote is from! Dagnabbit, I lost all the bonus points.

Secondly and briefly off-topic: You may have been an ex-atheist for a long time now, but I still wanted to say I admire you for having found your way home in spite of all the postmodern crud out there. You the man, dude. 😃

And thirdly: We must do something about the anti-Christian left. On a personal level, I would ask you this: If you knew that a friend of yours was anorexic to the point of near death, would you say, “Well, she got herself in this mess, so let her starve”, and leave her to die? I certainly know that I would not. Perhaps my own will may not be enough to save her if she insists on starving to death, but I can and must do all that is in my power so that she’ll be saved and restored.

Jesus commanded us to make disciples of all nations, teaching them to observe all that he has taught us. Unless I missed an important footnote on that verse, the Great Commission doesn’t have an expiry date. The Lord desires that his children fight for his Kingdom in all societies and all throughout the centuries, until he returns. So it’s our mission and our prophetic duty to oppose error and evil in whatever form they may take. If society, like our hypothetical anorexic friend above, chooses not to listen and kill itself, then that’s what it is, but as God’s servants we can’t excuse ourselves from doing all we can to reassert His will upon the world.

Hi!

This, of course, is the Call.

But not to a physical separation:
15 I am not asking you to remove them from the world, but to protect them from the evil one.
(St. John 17:15)
…but the Separation Call *is *there:
14 Do not behave in the way that you liked to before you learnt the truth; make a habit of obedience: 5 be holy in all you do, since it is the Holy One who has called you, 16 and scripture says: Be holy, for I am holy. 17 If you are acknowledging as your Father one who has no favourites and judges everyone according to what he has done, you must be scrupulously careful as long as you are living away from your home.
(1 St. Peter 1:14-17)
…not only would our Holiness (Separation for God) inspire the world… it will also Convict the world:
7 But I tell you the truth: it is expedient to you that I go: for if I go not, the Paraclete will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he is come, he will convince the world of sin, and of justice, and of judgment. 9 Of sin: because they believed not in me. 10 And of justice: because I go to the Father; and you shall see me no longer. 11 And of judgment: because the prince of this world is already judged.
(St. John 16:7-11)

Exactly. Young couples with the faith having big families. We will eventually outnumber the opposition.
You can’t or don’t have kids?
Support the families that do - with friendship or other support. Encourage bigger families. Encourage good marriages. Help young couples. Help even with homeschooling (or get better schools somehow).

…Catholicism is not a political agency… so Catholics are not able to form bodies that will counter punch/arrest social/political movements. … It is not about empowering ourselves and meeting them on the streets rally vs. rally. It is about Representing Christ–that is being alter Christus. But this Begins at home–in ourselves.
Hey – first I wanna say I do appreciate and value the power of prayer and silent witness! I do oppose the idea that prayer and witness should be the only tools we employ to work for the Kingdom, though. I explained to another poster why I feel that way:

And this is the problem for me – that too many people want to restrict their apostolic life to just these three things. Which is lame. Well – unless you’ve been called to contemplative life in the cloister – but in general, if God put you in the world, then you need to build his Kingdom in the world. And I firmly believe that this doesn’t just refer to assisting the poor. If Jesus came to bring not peace but a sword, then part of our work as apostles is to take up that call to arms and oppose error and evil in whatever form they may assume, and that involves duking it out with the liberals in the political arena. We must fight for truth and justice, and if involves empowering ourselves and meeting the enemies of God in the street, rally vs rally, then – well, so be it!

Of course, we’d never stoop to using some of the tactics that the Left is very fond of. For instance, I’m not about to harrass and lynch pro-gay congressmen, and no Christian government should ever impose the Faith by usurping parents’ custody of their own children, or jailing dissenters. But in a truly Christian spirit we need to get out there, get organized, and determine some effective ways in which we can harmonize our voices to defend the truth more effectively.

[R]ight now your zealousness for the Faith puts at odds with the world and even those who claim to be Christians… this is good (and it’s bad); this means that you are aware of your Commitment to Christ… this is bad (and good) because it means that you must gather the others around you… you must be that Salt/Light that motivates the world–which may even include the Clergy. … [F]rom the energy you project, you seem to be a young person… this, to me, is of great Promise…
Why – thank you for those words! I’m 28. I was a nominal Catholic until I went to UBC and got brainwashed by the hand-picked selection of anti-Christian academics they have there. I became a raging, self-righteous liberal, and the Good Shepherd had to drag me kicking and screaming back into His Church, which he accomplished through my mother’s patient faith. I hope I’m not a raging, self-righteous Catholic now, haha, but I am determined to do all that is in my power to prevent the society of my era from going down the drain altogether.

Plans come and go… without implementations they simply get confined to “wish lists.” … how concrete do you want things to be? Right here and right now?

Start a campaign about the Faith … Your campaign can bring Faith (Knowledge of Yahweh God) to the world… it is the New Evangelization…
Concrete as in, we ought to have come up with a workable action plan yesterday! Actually, I’ve already taken the first few steps to participate in the cultural wars in the way that I find most meaningful and urgent. I’ve purchased the domain, hosting, and software/equipment I need to build a website, which I’ll devote to precisely the cause you mention: Campaigning to bringing Faith and Truth to the world.

My aim is to, essentially, accomplish the following things:
  • To pick up the media slack in providing honest reporting and commentary on world events that are of actual relevance (rather than, hey check out this shallow celebrity’s huge mansion).
  • To respond to critics’ objections to the faith and Church teachings. (And dispel myths, prejudices and misconceptions about the Church.)
  • Raising awareness of the Catholic faith .
  • Providing genuinely Catholic guidelines for a well-lived life, explaining how the practice of the true Faith actually leads to the fullness (and fulfilment) of human experience.
  • To wake consciences and sound the call to arms, spurring my fellow Christians to mobilize.
I’m looking to create another website, once this more generalist one has gained enough traction. Website 2 will aim to be a centralized source where people can get the guidelines and tools they need to actually engagage the enemy in the battle for life and family.

But everything is still only loosely defined. That’s why I came here to see what ideas or thoughts or proposals people could come up with.

hi!

Hi!

I concur with you that prayer and silent witness cannot be the only tools in the Catholic’s Church Militant!

…but this is the point of departure… as I’ve noted: call to street party–beer and food… the whole world joins in; call to stand for Christ, Bible study, Catholic Activism… and you get: :tiphat::takeoff:

Then there’s all the red tape… The church must walk on eggshells without cracking a single piece or making the slightest sound…

So you have to contend with “momentum” and “status quo.”
and this is the problem for me – that too many people want to restrict their apostolic life to just these three things. Which is lame. Well – unless you’ve been called to contemplative life in the cloister…

This, then, would necessitate that Catholics and other Christians commit to entering the political arena; this of course touches on the fears of many (don’t know if you are familiar with the anti-Catholicism episodes throughout the world and in the US’s founding fibers); this doesn’t mean that we cannot achieve goals… it means that the globes will come off as many will the a two-fold threat: the Church and political activism by the Laity.

This I think is part of the problem with Catholic “momentum.” Fear is not only found without but also right within the Body of Believers.

This is a perfect example of several factors at work: Faith, poor Catechism, lukewarm understanding and commitment, the snares of the world (Satan), Prayer and Faith at work, God’s Mercy and Patience, and finally humble Obedience to the Call of the Holy Spirit!

…self-righteousness is about ego; as long as your Commitment is to the Kingdom of God and you emulate Christ and not the world… there’s no chance that a good tree would produce bad fruits!

This is excellent!

My one suggestion to you is that you avail yourself with as much support as possible. Even as a Catholic Lay person you will be representing the Church so you must be aware of Church Doctrine; this means that it is important for you to network… contact EWTN they have some experience in the Communication Field (television, radio, newspaper, internet…); then there are the advantages of having both Church and private experts to aide you both in content and in dissimilation.

It’s a good point. There is certainly a necessary role for activism. Also - getting seriously involved in politics is important, building the necessary skills for that.

So the question is… what are we to do? How can we, as lay Catholics, come up with effective strategies or tactics to do our part in the culture wars, and fight for the Kingdom of God in the midst of this grim ideological battle?
Sorry mate, the war has already been won. Abortion laws and gay rights is never going to change just because Christians think its wrong.

There will never be a Christian heaven on earth and it was utter foolishness to try and create one. All its done is make people hate the church even more.

Pray my friend,

Most of the world rejects so-called gay “marriage” and abortion.

Dude. I feel so freaking lonely right now.

The Leftists are rallying together and presenting a unified activist front to destroy the Kingdom of God.

Meanwhile we talk about how what they’re doing is very wrong and very effective, but I’ve yet to see any workable proposals on how we the Catholic laity can rally together in some kind of unified apostolate with specific and concrete tactics to militate against the ideologies of error. Everybody wants to just pray and vote and do the “silent witness” thing and keep on railing against the evilness of the left. Why are Catholics so freaking lazy? Gaaaaah.
Here’s the problem:

People see the world crumbling and want answers.

When they get those answers, they get angry because it really means some level of personal sacrifice on their part------and without the government making them do it and it might mean not letting their kids and favorite people on Facebook run unchallenged or just not making these lame excuses. If that would stop, we would see a massive improvement.

I can’t even have a decent conversation with people to help them to even understand where the threats are coming from. You mention the left, but they’re more interested in calling out the right every time one of us sneezes in the wrong direction. Why? Because it’s cool and trendy.

How many people on here even know, for instance, what post-modernism is? Do they even know what their kids are being taught? I almost wish they don’t, because it’d be REALLY bad to know that this is what they are okay with getting gauged by the IRS for and why they keep voting for more property taxes.

This stuff isn’t rocket science; people just need to see past the nonsense and hogwash.

Hi!

…yeah, and if you oppose homosexuality it’s because you’re a closet homosexual!

…ever heard of “reversed psychology?”

I’ve heard that before as well. All I know is I had more attention from women that I could keep track of and I enjoyed it while liberals were on the internet screaming about how gay I was as if they knew.

Sad.

I think an issue you’ve not addressed above is that a significant slice of Christians have rejected Christian beliefs in these areas. I suspect emotive “arguments” and euphemisms have trumped both rationality and faith. I find it astounding.
It’s a staple of the post-modern movement. Their beef isn’t just against religion. In fact, the shift culturally is now more left vs post modern because a lot of these folks are not limiting their attack to religion and are going all out against logic, reason, science and free speech.

In fact, the mainstream left-leaning skeptic community is now on the front lines defending the fundamental aspects of our religion in terms of logic, reason, and to an extent freedom of religion.

And really, if you look at history very carefully and closely, this isn’t unusual or even unique. The most recent wave comes from 1960s France, which could to some degree be traced back to Napoleon. But it’s definitely an expression of the Frankfurt school of thought as well.

I’m not gonna discuss this topic in general coz it’s neither my place. nor my intention.

However, this imediately caught my eye:

Not really considering they are silent about how radical Muslims treat their community.

We know the buck stops with them.

Hello, all. I don’t know about you, but I’m outraged/terrified at the incredible aggression that we’ve been seeing from the anti-christian left over the past few years.

Here’s a quick summary of the overall trends I notice:
  • The LGBT crowd is convincing the world that Christians and specifically Catholics are the villains of this story, simply because we hold to the revealed truth about sodomy and similar forms of sexual dysfunction.
  • Meanwhile, the pro-abortion crowd has been quite successful promoting the claim that the Catholic Church is against women’s freedom.
  • Catholics and Christians in general are being fired from their jobs, harrassed, fined, jailed, and even physically assaulted for proclaiming the truth about these issues. (See what liberals are doing to the Freedom Bus if you want a recent reminder.)
  • Massive social media companies such as Google, DeviantArt, Facebook, and Twitter are deploying attrition tactics to gain more converts for these twisted ideologies on a daily basis.
  • All over the world, activist pro-LGBT legislation is having our children indoctrinated into the SOGI ideology, and passing “gag laws” that impose criminal penalties on anybody who dares contradict the Rainbow Fuhrer.
  • Catholic voices are being systematically ridiculed, marginalized and criminalized worldwide.
So the question is… what are we to do? How can we, as lay Catholics, come up with effective strategies or tactics to do our part in the culture wars, and fight for the Kingdom of God in the midst of this grim ideological battle?
First, recognize that if you find someone on the internet ardently defending the homosexual agenda as it’s been called rightly or wrongly, the person is likely not GLBTQ. Many straights have taken this up as an excercise in virtue-signaling, which is old news.

Second, know that a lot of this stems from excuse-making and Christians and other religious not understanding the arguments. The arguments in terms of so-called gay “marriage” were woefully inadequate and embarrassing frankly outside of what myself and Adam Kosalinski were making. They were nothing more than just appeals to authority (because Bible says so) and arm-chair moral activism by thinking the government would fix the problem.

Third, in terms of the vandalism and violence, a lot of liberals have a very dim view of such things and will indicate that these folks are not liberal but are communists, anarchists and post-modernists. They will also admit, to their credit, these folks have infiltrated the left. The skeptic community in general has taken up the mantle and is fighting back on social media and with some urgency as they see the threat for what it is.

What Catholics can do:
  1. Learn about post-modernism. Read “Explaining Post-Modernism” by Steven Hicks and watch some videos created by Dr. Jordan B. Peterson. I will say this only once: If Catholics cannot be bothered to understand this, they have little chance of getting anywhere with anyone.
  2. Know who your allies are. Not every GLBTQ person is pushing post-modernism or an agenda. A few have even come out and said they will follow Catholic teaching. Also know that if you’re going to discuss the community, know that those who stray from the progressive narrative are often ostracized increasingly in the same manner they’ve accused Christians of doing.
  3. Stop making excuses, especially for friends and family. People ask me what the biggest problem is. Really, it’s that people have decided to put their friends (or perhaps more accurately people they think are their friends) and family before God. The Gospel is very clear that God comes first, not feelings on Facebook and not “the peace” at Thanksgiving dinner. Doesn’t mean you have to start a debate, but it does mean don’t sit there and compromise your values just to impress someone, and yes, we all know it is happening. So Stop.

Sorry mate, the war has already been won. Abortion laws and gay rights is never going to change just because Christians think its wrong.

There will never be a Christian heaven on earth and it was utter foolishness to try and create one. All its done is make people hate the church even more.

Pray my friend,
Hi!

…yeah… not!

The war is not over… it will continue till the Parousia:
17 And the dragon was angry against the woman: and went to make war with the rest of her seed, who keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
(Apocalypse [Revelation] 12:17)
…those who believe that the culture of death’s agenda is “social justice” and that all it wants is for all men (humanity) to live in a happily homogenized peaceful coexistence (I never thought I would use the following term) “have another thing coming.”

Till God is razed from the human experience Satan will not stop conjuring the human unrighteous and dark feelings into a war machine bent on God’s demise; consequently, the Church, being the biggest target, will remain under assailment… non-Catholics do not present much of a challenge to his supremacy since they are easily swayed to “vote” him into office… sadly, minimal and “progressive” Catholics are following in rank as they desire to remove the Church’s Authority that looms over their head and their “liberties.”

Jesus prophesied about this predicament:
10 And then many will fall away; men will betray one another and hate one another. 11 Many false prophets will arise; they will deceive many, 12 and with the increase of lawlessness, love in most men will grow cold; 13 but the man who stands firm to the end will be saved.
(St. Matthew 24:10-13)
Standing for Christ does include Prayer (a life of Prayer) but it also requires activism… we cannot be Christ’s Witnesses inside the Church only or from inside our homes only:
38 For if anyone in this adulterous and sinful generation is ashamed of me and of my words, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.’
(St. Mark 8:38)
…and Heaven is already here:
20 And being asked by the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come? he answered them, and said: The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21 Neither shall they say: Behold here, or behold there. For lo, the kingdom of God is within you.
(St. Luke 17:20-21)
…this is why Witnessing is so important!

The hatred of the world has already been patent (St. John 15:18-27); however, Christians must Stand, in every generation, for Christ and His Word, regardless of the numbers that will be Convicted by the Truth or continue to reject the Truth.

Maran atha!

Hi!

…remember the rudimental laws taught in general science? I remember one in particular: water travels through the path of least resistance…

…I also learned, from farm herds, that the masses follow the lead–it’s easier not to have to think and make decisions…

…combine the above with man’s determination to “I did it my way” and you have the inglorious being trumpeted as “glorious.”

Also know that if you’re going to discuss the community, know that those who stray from the progressive narrative are often ostracized increasingly in the same manner they’ve accused Christians of doing.
3) Stop making excuses, especially for friends and family. So Stop.
Hi!

I concur with your final paragraph. Too many times “Christians” fail to understand that God’s mandate is not that we change the world but that we Stand for Christ. This means that there will be pain and suffering as even those within our familial circle (family and friends) may reject God’s Commandments and we cannot be “friends” of the world since that would bring us into enmity with Yahweh God.

…we are to live as strangers/foreigners amongst them–so the world wants to “legalize” all sorts of unions as “marriage,” fine, let them live another lie; the fight is not to change the world’s opinion but to remain Loyal to Christ and to Convict the world of its unrighteousness–this of course demands that we fight against civil laws that forces Christians to accept and support the culture of death.

It is about keeping our Faith and demanding that we be respected for our Belief in Christ–it is not about fighting civil/social changes… in that aspect the Amish have certain things right.

Sorry mate, the war has already been won. Abortion laws and gay rights is never going to change just because Christians think its wrong.

There will never be a Christian heaven on earth and it was utter foolishness to try and create one. All its done is make people hate the church even more.

Pray my friend,
I think you’re terribly mistaken, friend. The world has hated the truth ever since Biblical times. Most likely, those of us who love and accept the truth will always be outnumbered by those who don’t, but the Lord made it clear that this is not a valid excuse to weasel out of fighting for the Kingdom of his Father.

A Christian heaven on earth – no, indeed, it’s not possible as long as the servants of the Evil One are out there working to ruin God’s Kingdom. But still, we are called to fight against error, misery, and injustice in this world. Indeed, the degree to which we engage in this fight during the present life shall determine the glory that God will endow us with for eternity.

I don’t care if people hate the Church. I think that the Church herself has never cared about that either. When you proclaim the truth, some people will hate you. Christ was killed in the most horrible way because the Jewish leaders of his time hated him. Like Christ, we forgive and love those who rail against us, and we go on proclaiming truth and building up the Kingdom.
