Hi, Peter!Hi. I’m coming in late to this thread.
Same-sex-marriage is kind of an academic question in 2017, but regardless … my opposition to it was never a matter of telling them that they couldn’t do it; it was a matter of my right to believe that SSM is not true marriage.
…this is exactly what is lacking in the understanding of “feel good” Christians… they actually blame the Church for pushing up against “liberties” and “rights” while ignoring that the Church has to push against sin and unrighteousness.
…for the past few decades there has been a struggle where the Church has voiced her rejection of abortion and homosexuality; yet, abortionists and the factions that have supported them (government, enterprise, and the “feel good” Christians) have pushed forward with their culture of death trampling all who do not capitulate (reminds me of the Muslim conversion tactics); ditto with the homosexual agenda and their members and supporters… it got so bad that Nuns were suit by the government and fined a million dollars per day for each count against the death culture’s mandates–could you imagine if the Church had remained silent?
…the first order of the day would be to chastise the Church for not teaching that abortion and homosexuality is against God’s Commandments… and the pundits would have field day after field day of “showing” how the Church just invented these teachings–just as they have tried to insinuate that the Church never taught about the Sacrament of Marriage… this in spite of recorded evidence that contradicts such thoughts:
)Marriage in the Catholic Church, also called matrimony, is the "covenant by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage_in_the_Catholic_Church#Early_period
It is one thing for Christians to be forced to coexist with evil, but quite a different thing for Christians to remain silent while evil surrounds and conquers the world:
(St. Luke 9:23-26)23 Then to all he said, ‘If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me. 24 For anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, that man will save it. 25 What gain, then, is it for a man to have won the whole world and to have lost or ruined his very self? 26 For if anyone is ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when he comes in his own glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.
27 What I say to you in the dark, tell in the daylight; what you hear in whispers, proclaim from the housetops. 28 ‘Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; fear him rather who can destroy both body and soul in hell. 29 Can you not buy two sparrows for a penny? And yet not one falls to the ground without your Father knowing. 30 Why, every hair on your head has been counted. 31 So there is no need to be afraid; you are worth more than hundreds of sparrows. 32 ‘So if anyone declares himself for me in the presence of men, I will declare myself for him in the presence of my Father in heaven. 33 But the one who disowns me in the presence of men, I will disown in the presence of my Father in heaven. (St. Matthew 10:27-33)
…this Battle began in Genesis 3:15!
