It is so sad to see that I am not alone in this situation. It has honestly been the biggest weight on my family. There has been times where I have just giving up because I dont have the strenght to keep fighting against my husband family. We have been married for 10 years and his priorities have always been his parents and his sibblings. Yes i do agree that we have to honor our parents but I have also talked to numerous of people and the all agree that once you get you get married you family becomes your priority. I will be praying for you and all of us who are going threw the same situation.
God Bless
Whoever told you this was very misinformed. And I am very sorry for your situation. I know it would be easy for me to say ‘just leave your husband’ but I am sure from where you are sitting it is a lot more complicated than that. And I totally understand wanting to be there to see how she treats your kids.
My suggestion is to find some kind of support to help you set your boundaries and to muster up the courage to tell your husband that until his mom grows up, she will not be seeing her grandchildren.
I have had to cut certain family members off and I know how lonely it is because everyone thinks I am the unreasonable one. They don’t care to see my side. I even had ‘friends’ say to me ‘CM you really should think about fixing that relationship’ How could people be so cruel as to insinuate I could get a jerk to become a good person??? Sometimes I wonder if every time I make it clear I will not tolerate abusive behaviour in a family member, other people’s denial starts to break. And since they do not have the strenght to set their boundaries they try to get me to give up mine so they can live in their denial.
So, yes it is lonely and yes it will be hard. But it is much better than letting the resentment build until you explode.
