How to discern signs from God?

Theres been some stuff in my life recently that seems to be leading to something. Its something I really want to do though so I don’t know if its just me making something out of nothing. How do you know whether a sign is from God, your mind, or the devil?
 
I sometimes get struggling with this and would like to find out as well. Maybe I’ll ask my priest on a day. I’m maybe going to see him on Tuesday, I can try to ask then, and I’ll tell you what he tells me if I remember.

First, is the event (or thought) good or evil? Second, is the event a sign or not?

If it is easy and exciting and what you’ve always wanted, it is probably nothing, or at least not from God. We must deny ourselves to conform our wills with God’s.

Something that may not be immediately appealing; may not be what you have always desired; something that sounds like way too much time, work and commitment; something that is def outside of your comfort zone, now that may very well be from God.

I think that sometimes, it is obviously the will of God. For instance, a person might be looking for a new job, a new house, a new start in life. Things start presenting themselves, but still people question if it is God’s will. Why would anyone think it is not? He wants what is good for us. He sends us opportunities and we should take them and give thanks. God is not going to send us the wrong things.
 
I agree wholeheartedly with your definition. I feel God is calling me to be a Deacon. I can’t say I’ve always had the dream of becoming a Deacon and it would be somewhat outside my comfort zone. I am feeling the same feelings I read and talk to others about like unworthiness and how could I give a homily? I am open and letting it all unfold. I have 3 children under 10 so I also know I need to be available for them. I hope and pray that one day I will join the Deaconate.
 
Bless you for your willingness to serve! The point is to be docile to the Holy Sprit and willing to accept anything - whatever - the Lord sends your way. Everything from holy orders to glorifying God through deprivation, sickness, suffering and death.

One of the most difficult parts of the Lord’s Prayer for me is “Thy will be done”, as I know that suffering follows. The suffering, the struggle, the strife, can be tolerated much more easily - even becomeing a blessing - if one remembers to focus on the Lord alone, and to-refocus on Him if diverted to sometihng else.

This is not easy in a world of distractions.
