How do we explain away stories like this? How do people have this knowledge? Isn’t just saying “It’s from the devil” too simplistic?

And it’s also a double-edged sword, because if she knows all of that but was never actually re-born, then that means we can know things outside of sense perception.

*But during the last 30 years parapsychologists have been studying reports that some people have vivid memories of their former lives. For example, in England, a 5 year-old girl said she could remember her “other mother and father” and she talked vividly about what sounded like the events in the life of another person. Parapsychologists were called in and they asked her hundreds of questions to which she gave answers. She spoke of living in a particular village in what appeared to be Spain, she gave the name of the village, the name of the street she lived in, her neighbors’ names and details about her everyday life there. She also fearfully spoke of how she had been struck by a car and died of her injuries two days later. When these details were checked, they were found to be accurate. There was a village in Spain with the name the five-year-old girl had given. There was a house of the type she had described in the street she had named. What is more, it was found that a 23-year-old woman living in the house had been killed in a car accident five years before. Now how is it possible for a five year- old girl living in England and who had never been to Spain to know all these details? *

Why do you feel the need to explain it away ?

It’s what Buddhists believe.

We’re not Buddhist, but Christians and we believe in what the Church teaches, but not only believe it, but have the experience with the living Jesus Christ who comes to us in the gift of faith.

I’d be willing to bet that the child was “fed” the details - either on purpose or unwittingly. That has been found to be the case with the Christian children who “died” and “went to heaven.” Their original stories are also altered by parents and/or other adults. Do you remember the Satanic panic that put daycare workers in prison? Same thing - made up stories abetted by gullible adults.

Young people are quite suggestible. When I was in my early teens I wasn’t going to church & was influenced by my Scientologist friend & her family. I had a lot of anxiety & fear riding in cars (still do - I insist on driving!) & with their “help” came up with a believable story about being killed in a car accident in a past life.

As an older teen I really was almost killed & believed for years I had been in hell. As I learned more about how the brain works, I dropped that belief.

Knowing that the devil can give knowledge of others persons, places, times, languages, etc. why delve into the occult? Do not look away from Christ and sink, as Peter did. Rather look toward him and cry out for help!

Both the Lord and the devil want you - forever.

In order to spread the deception of reincarnation, there is the possibility that it was evil spirits who may have fed information (that they know about and tell each other about) to those, who for reasons we do not know, appear to have knowledge of past lives. Be aware that the fallen angels have been around since before mankind was created.

The evil one is very crafty and if we don’t keep our eyes on Jesus and obey what He teaches us through the Church, it is possible to be deceived.

Hadn’t seen your post before I responded. I totally agree!

Parapsychology is a newage invention. I doubt the degree is in any way similar to bonefide psychology. First thing to question about these reports is :

Is the purported expert qualified?
Then
What type of institutions offer such a degree?
Would this type of expert’s evidence be admissible in law?
Do real Buddhists give these experts any credibility?

Catholics know the ‘reincarnation’ our original bodies get is at the second judgement. With our original soul.

Watch out for the traps of newage stuff. It can look so benign. But as one of my Priests says
‘We dont believe in it, it means nothing’

Thats always a great thing to say of the traps of evil.

God bless you and your questioning

I have a friend who claims her son has eerily accurate knowledge of two different “lives”. She believes in the pre-existence of souls and thinks that we were all “angels” in heaven before we were born and are sent to earth for a purpose and then we die and go back to heaven. She doesn’t believe in reincarnation, but thinks that her son must have seen these two other lives prior to being born and remembered them because he was an innocent young child. She also claims she prayed with her son before he was born and his spirit is exactly how she knew him while she was interacting with his pre-existent being. Her Biblical support for this belief is the “I knew you before you were in the womb.” She also insists that Orthodox Christians hold this belief though I’ve yet to encounter any that do. I haven’t made much of an attempt to dissuade her from this belief. She’s convinced that her personal experiences are accurate, although I did point out that I recall her going around for weeks prior to her ultrasound calling her belly “Morgan” because she sensed she was having a girl. She explained that was before she had mastered the art of praying during lucid dreams.

Regarding the “The devil can influence these people’s thoughts and memories.”

Has there been any other situations where the devil could literally implant false memories in people? I’ve never heard of this before which is one of the reasons I find it too simplistic.

I know he can plant thoughts in peoples’ heads, but memories as well? If that is the case then how can we know that our memories aren’t from the devil?

This is what has been bothering me.

Yes, but because it was His will that designed and created, not because we were preexistant souls.
Right, the only way she could know him is by God giving her that knowledged and I’m pretty sure he didnt .🙂

As I said in your other thread on this that the Church teaches there is NO reincarnation. That should be enough for you. Church teachings have the full authority of God supporting them so you know they are true.
Therefore any and all talk by anyone about reincarnation existing is wrong.

My thought on reincarnation may be strange, but I think it’s a valid argument:

We believe that the Saints are in heaven. We believe that Mary is Mary, Joseph is Joseph, etc. Mary is not Mary, Frank, John, Louisa, etc…She has only been and ever will be Mary, the mother of Jesus. That is her identity.

If I get to heaven and see my parents there, I will recognize them as my parents…not just spirits who in one lifetime came to earth as my parents.

I too believe that stories like the one you mentioned are deceptions from the one who roams the world seeking the ruin of souls. We may wonder at many things, but Jesus is the only true light who gives God’s truth to the world, and we need to keep our eyes on him and believe in his word.
