How to Handle Neighbors Dogs

It’s if it was sufficient to keep the dog out, it’s not sufficient because I don’t have the authority to put it completely around their yard. If the dog can jump over the fence between our yards, it can jump over the fence to the street and come around to the front of my property. I also don’t have the funds to put up such a fence right now, especially not knowing if it will work, and there’s a good chance it’s a moot point because I might not be allowed to put a wooden fence up anyway.
Why would you need the authority to put it around their yard? You’d be fencing your own yard, not theirs.

Funds are a different ball of wax.

Not all privacy fencing is wooden, and if you don’t have an HOA, I’m not sure what they can do about what kind of fence you put up. That’s an HOA gig, not a town ordinance. One just stays out of the easement or understands that if one is put there, it’s that person’s responsibility to take it down and pay to put it back up, not the utility company’s.

I think you’re missing the point. If I put a fence across the back of the yard, their dog could still jump their fence and come on to our property. Even if I put the fence around the entire yard, (which would require probably 30 panels and cost nearly 3 grand, which we don’t have) the dog can still get out of their yard and is still a threat to our children’s safety because we also use our front yard and side yards.

Eh, right up until they’re not. I don’t trust them. It’s not necessarily the breeds fault. They were bred for pit fighting, and then you got a bunch of white trash, thugs, etc. that started breeding them in trailer parks and ghettos and now you have a whole bunch of mutts running around that are extremely strong, were bred for aggression, and aren’t suitable pets.

I just wish I’d figure out why so many suburbanites want them in their homes. It’s like a SJW for for pits thing or something.

Haven’t read the whole thread

Instal cctv to document the behaviour of the dogs. Take this , when you have enough evidence, to the legal entity who can help you. In Australia it’s the local council.

On top of the maximum height fence you can build , after raising the fence, instal a rollover bar. On all fences.

These bars stop cats and dogs being able to get over the fence, if they are using the fence to climb.

I have 2 dogs who would scale 6 - 7 ft easily. But most dogs , especially pets, just climb.

cat roller fence - Google Search…0…1…3…41j0i131.H9jI6T8byVw%3D#imgrc=diz5cNQd14ONwM:

Make it a robust roller.

Also is it legal to put up anti bark devices in your yard in USA.

These give off a very unpleasant sound when a dog barks. This might just deter those dogs from your fence line. It will certainly stop them barking. It’s an extreme measure, but you have children who need to be safe.

Do the new neighbors know of your concerns

What type of fence do you have? I am sure these can be attached to any fence. A lot of people make the rollers out of pvc pipe.

In the states, these rollovers are used to keep coyotes out as well.

I don’t understand why suburbanites want any large breeds that they don’t have the space or time to exercise properly. It’s not the dogs’ fault. God made them to live in the wilderness and hunt small animals for food and defend their hunting territory. He didn’t make them to be a “nanny” or be kept in a living room and 20 ft. dog run.

Research the most robust ones you can make or find. Some people use them for the top of their wolf dog or pet wolf enclosures.

I actually know someone who has a whole bunch of left over PVC pipe they want to unload! We can get this up right away and that would solve at least part of the issue.

I’ve been taking my camera whenever we go out there. I can’t afford a CCTV camera.

What are the fencing laws like where you live? is the fence shared, all on your property, all on theirs? That might effect being able to put it up.

It’s a shared fence. I don’t see any reason for them to complain about it. I don’t think they’re intentionally putting their dog in my yard.

Yeah but this is going to imply that you view their dog as a threat. I won’t be surprised if they get super defensive and say that it’s an eye sore and they don’t want it up. I hope they don’t, but I won’t be shocked if they do.

They are pretty cheap here, starting at about Aus $ 100. You don’t need an expensive set up. Just something that will stream back to your phone or device.

There will be some good tech people on CAF that can advice you.

In my part of the world they are very common and range from cheap to expensive. We have an ice epidemic atm and crime is huge, mainly car theft and tradie car tool theft.

CCTV is ubiquitous and we even stream it on a fb page for stolen stuff or attempted theft.
