How to have more contrition?

That’s not true. Jesus said you could be perfect.
John said the commandments are not difficult to keep.

Is the Priest - allowed - not to grant - absolution ?
I wonder if Padre Pio refused people.

He’s not only allowed but obligated, if the circumstances warrant.

Mother Teresa confessed everyday, but we have to realize that those who do so, like popes, were getting spiritual council at the same time because they had difficult work for God.
Yah, I confess the same things over and over. I have found that I’m more conscious of particular small yet frequent sins, and that’s progress.
Many times I wish I could just confess being a dumb human who stumbles through life and be done with it.

I have heard people basically say this, or say some variation of it like, “I just live my life” and use this as a reason why they don’t get much out of confession or don’t go often.
Not accusing you of that. I think people just honestly get frustrated and do not like having to constantly examine their conscience and come up with either the same stuff, or maybe not be sure what they are supposed to be looking for, especially when you get to a point in your life where you are not committing the big sins of getting really drunk and picking up somebody at a party, etc.

May I add that PRAYING for contrition can help, too.
My psychiatrist, an old man, tho Anglican in faith,
gave me this advice: “Pray for contrition”. Which I
did and IT HELPED!! Praise and glory to God!!

My point was more along the lines of the overall stupidity I often feel when I really want to not sin and then I do. A lot of my habitual sins are just plain dumb. It is certainly humiliating.

John the Baptist said “ Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance “

Once when I had moved to a new city, I went to my parish church and registered. At my first confession in the new parish, the priest (one of eight; it was an Italian neighborhood) told me, in a thick Italian accent, that every time I sinned I was personally pounding another spike into our Lord’s hands and feet on the cross. I was appalled and couldn’t believe he’d said this to me. However, on reflection, I realised he was 100% right, and that I had needed to hear this. Remembering his words has been an immense help over the ensuing years in developing a sense of perfect contrition.

I had to go back to your original question - lol
Anyways,
whatever your sins are…do the complete opposite 😇

So if you stole - then give back or return - etc

If you used a swear word - say - out loud -
10 Hail Marys from your inner most repentant heart !

And smile about it - truly smile

Never ever give up! Keep on confessing the same sins, if need be. As many have said here, even saints had their own particular weaknesses that they conquered through all their lives. And priests are not supposed to get tired of hearing the same sins; if one did, then it’s his fault, not yours.

But here is one clue on how you can conquer:
" Man cannot live without joy. That is why one deprived of spiritual joys goes over to carnal pleasures."

St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologiae, II–II, q. 35, art. 4, ad. 2.

Fruits - of the Spirit -
are self control - gentleness - joy - peacefulness
love - patience - faithfulness - kindness - etc.

Jesus was even more black and white - saying -
a fountain can’t bring forth fresh water - and bitter water.

A tree can’t bring forth good fruit and bad fruit.

As Dr. Scott Hahn heard from his confessor: “What do you want, new sins?” Repetitious sinning is our cross to bear. We are not required to be triumphant over sin, although that must be our goal. We are called to struggle against sin. God knows what we are made of. He desires the struggle, as the victory is already His.
