This is not a purely hypothetical question. Just look around and see the advances in reality. We were able to eradicate many illnesses. Unfortunately there are many, for which there is no cure yet. The average standard of living is ever increasing. A “poor” person in the US today only has one cell phone - what a “shame” :). The number one problem for the poor people in the first world is - obesity - not starvation. Of course there are many problems still to be tackled and solved. In the third world people still starve and die to many diseases.

We do not have a the power and the resources to solve ALL the problems of the world. But we make huge progress every day. So, contrary to the idea of Leibniz (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gottfried_Wilhelm_Leibniz) who was a genius mathematician and a lousy philosopher, this is NOT the best possible world.

Which possible advancements would you tackle, if you had the power to do so? Let your imagination be your guide. 🙂

There is only one ultimate way, salvation through Jesus Christ, we need nothing else in this world.

We need to follow Jesus’ commands to preach the gospel to all nations and peoples.

Piecemeal improvements to the existing world do not, cannot and will not be an adequate substitute for a feasible blueprint of a better world. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence can make minor alterations but to design and create the entire system from scratch is a far more formidable proposition. Anyone who claims to be capable of doing so is guilty of inordinate pride and presumption…

Indeed. Most of the needless suffering in the world is caused by diabolical inequality: the eight richest people have as much wealth as poorest 50%.

Let everyone have the opportunity to walk in another’s shoes. Experience the poverty, experience the racism, experience the hunger, experience the fear.

Very poignant.

I wouldn’t want to be poor in the US either. Money gives people choice. The poor, truly dependent poor, have little choice in where they live or send their children to school.

The real poverty in first world countries is often loneliness.

How to make the world better? One act of kindness at a time.

This will sound unforgivably trite, but, “LOVE”. And the only way that can happen is if we each start in our own little world…one person at a time, in every thing we do. That includes right here as well as in the most difficult places with the most difficult people.

Lets do it.👍

But you already know that’s not possible. You can’t love everyone equally. You probably love your kids as much as anyone can love anyone. But your nephews? And cousins? Second cousins? Someone distantly related?

If you loved a child in Syria as much as you loved your own child, then you’d get her out of there asap. But you don’t. You can’t. So you don’t. In fact, you don’t even lose any sleep over a Syrian child’s death. It’s emotionally impossible to care as much for all people.

And this is not meant to be denigrating to you personally. We are all built that way. The only way for you or me to really care for people in Syria is for us to go there and live as they do. To get to know them.

Anyone want to go? Probably not…

👍 We should regard everyone as our brothers and sisters. Even the rich are not immune to misfortune…

Farmers in poor countries save up to buy a bicycle so they can get stuff to market and get home without it taking all day. People who are poorer still don’t have the little money needed to get clean water.

Imho fine talk of a grand plan and a loving attitude might help us but it doesn’t help them. Action now, not promises tomorrow. Beautiful thoughts don’t build the kingdom. One step at a time. Poco a poco.

We have got to make it personal and be realistic. One small step at a time. Before trying to save every child in Syria start in your own community. We all have circles of control and circles of influence. Remember what mother Teresa said, “We can do no great things - only small things with great love …"

That is pretty much we can do with our limited resources and power. Let’s have some fun and allow our imagination soar. 🙂
Reducing human population, stop producing warfare, distributing wealth properly…
Good start. Then add the elimination of diseases. Eliminate the psychopaths. And make sure that procreation can only happen if BOTH parties would seriously want it to happen.

Yes. I have serious problem with procreation. We found free source of energy for growth, oil. We will have difficulty when the oil is over and we are overpopulated. People don’t seems to be wise.

The only possible way to make a better world is if everybody shares everything and acts for a unified goal. But apparently that’s socialism and socialism is evil.

By stoping procreation, procreation is the root of all suffering and problems.

“Legem credendi lex statuit supplicandi. The rule of faith is indicated by the law of our worship” (Quas Primas 12, Pope Pius XI)

This is affirmed as an “axiom” by the Pope. Therefore I say with confidence if the liturgical laws are put into practice with greater humility and obedience, we will see faithful fruits due to the rule of faith. What do I mean, saying fruits of the rule of faith?

“the ultimate or remote rule of faith must be the truthfulness of God in revealing Himself.” (1913 Catholic Encyclopedia, rule of faith)

When the truth of God is revealed to the hearts of (who are in some way, more or less) apostates, heretics, and schismatics - we will have a better world. Because of the connection with the law of our worship and the rule of faith, as an axiom - we can be sure that the welfare of the world greatly depends on the development of priests. Pure hearts offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass that saves.
