This is not a purely hypothetical question. Just look around and see the advances in reality. We were able to eradicate many illnesses. Unfortunately there are many, for which there is no cure yet. The average standard of living is ever increasing. A “poor” person in the US today only has one cell phone - what a “shame”
. The number one problem for the poor people in the first world is - obesity - not starvation. Of course there are many problems still to be tackled and solved. In the third world people still starve and die to many diseases.
We do not have a the power and the resources to solve ALL the problems of the world. But we make huge progress every day. So, contrary to the idea of Leibniz (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gottfried_Wilhelm_Leibniz) who was a genius mathematician and a lousy philosopher, this is NOT the best possible world.
Which possible advancements would you tackle, if you had the power to do so? Let your imagination be your guide.
